Hello, I've recently just signed up here to get some real help in order to be a lot less "scrubby" when it comes to fighting games, specifically Persona 4: Arena.

I've picked my character Yosuke and I really like how it feels. I got a grasp on gliding, atleast enough to pull it off 75% of the time (not a lot, but better then nothing). I learned combos, mixups, and everything, I just can't get it all to come together. Online play turns into Auto-combos and mashing the hell out of the A and X button on my controller. Using oki is completely out of the question, as I almost always forget to Slide/FA. My R-action is usually only pushed in panic situations, along with constant pushes of the X button. After awakening I'll start EX.dash springing until i'm fresh out of SP.

Basically, how can I fix all these bad habits and start doing what I'm supposed to be doing?

Hey,

Although I've been here a while, but I never ventured into online play (just the story mode :3 ) so I got totally bodied today in online play as I'm still a beginner. I'm having difficulties in combos, footsies and pressure play. I was wondering if getting to "pro" games wold benefit me anything or is it just wiser to stick with complete beginners before advancing to higher level games. (I play in EU so there aren't many beginners there).

Thanks in advance ^^

Regards,
VerdantShadow

P.S. I've been putting many hours on training mode, there I can do all the BnB combos, but in real matches I usually panick and don't know what am I doing anymore. Good tips would be good too :p

Ok. I'm new here, so I'm not really sure how the forums operate here, but I'm assuming this guide is applicable to Blazblue as well. That being said, I'm not really sure where these questions should be asked, so I'm just gonna ask them here. Anyone feel free to point me in the right direction if this is the wrong place to post this.

So, I have a good amount of experience with BB. I've played Extend a lot before and the characters I seem to regular are Relius, Haku and Arakune. Really leaning toward Relius as a main though. However even though I've played this game for a pretty long time, I've never taken the time to seriously get into it like I have with fighters like VS or Street Fighter. Therefore, I have a lot of (probably) stupid questions in regards to the mechanics, terminology, and overall just how the game works. Please feel free to be as painfully detailed as possible, I want to get a good grasp on this game:

1.What are the important differences within this game in terms of the mechanics that separates it from other fighters?

2. Is there some sort of tier list? How balanced is this game actually? Characters like Noel and Litchi seem to be close to the top.

3. Any tips for someone who doesn't use a fight stick? Hence the 360 controller being notoriously bad for fighting games.

4. Astrals. Do they serve any practical purpose or are they just to basically show off?

5. Is there anywhere I can find hitbox data and such?

6. How do "Instant Block" and "Fatal Counters" work exactly?

This is all I have for now. I'm sure I'll have more down the road. Thanks in advance, ya'll.

For my opening statement: I feel like I might get shot for asking this, but here goes nothing (well more like something, but what ev's).

Okies, I find myself in an odd position with respect to Guilty Gear. For some reason, none of the characters "feel right" to me, if that makes sense. I've played through the entire cast of the game but nothing really "grabs me" or speaks out at me. In Blazblue I was instantly attracted to both Carl and Relius, with a side of Tager. In P4A I practically fell in love with Elizabeth and Kanji, but also siding Mitsuru. Yet when I try out this cast, it just feels meh. Nothing really jumps out at me, saying "Oh wow, I really like this!!!" or something along that line.

In short is it possible to have no likes for the roster or am I just over thinking things too much?

Hi all,
Newbie here, having a bit of trouble learning fighting games so I thought maybe I'd stop trying to struggle through everything on my own and ask a question or two of people who actually know what they're doing.

So obligatory brief self-introduction- Only fighting game I ever played before January of this year was Dragonball Z Budokai 3. I was decent, could beat my friends, but looking back I mostly just mashed buttons. I got fairly into competitive gaming last year which eventually lead me to fighting games early this year. I started with DOA5 and SF4. I like DoA but I can't seem to get my head around 3d fighters. SF4 I really enjoyed which lead me to Darkstalkers and Skullgirls.

In my wanderings on the net I had heard of Blazblue a little bit and decided to pick up CT for like $5 for my PSP. I really loved the art and character designs, even though the psp d-pad made it kind of tough, so recently I got CS (not extend, apparently i need to go shopping again :P). As with CT I've chosen to main Noel, cuz I like her. I did all the tutorials and did her first 3 challenges (and the 1st combo of the 4th challenge ( was crazy, pretty happy I finally got it)) along with playing through her arcade (on the easiest difficulty >.<).

So anyway, I'm a little overwhelmed by some of this fighting game craziness:

So it seems this game is a lot about combos, challenge 4 was tough but I think it was like 10 moves tops... People seem to throw around 20 move combos like they're nothing around here, I looked up Noel's combos and.... wow... I didn't count but it looks like 60+ different combos, granted there's some overlap but... damn. So do I need to memorize all that to be competent?

At the moment I really just dash around avoiding stuff and then jump in and try to follow the chain revolver combo ( D>A>B>C>D ) but there's just so much stuff I don't know how to react to. I don't know how to get to the point where I really think about the game like a fighting game player, rather than just seeing it as a 2player platformer where you can punch and kick.

I suppose mostly I'm just having trouble with the difficulty curve of the whole thing, it seems like once you know what the buttons do the next step is to be chaining 20 move combos into each other in the air and knowing how to do it different for each character. Perhaps a little guidance on the in-between would be helpful :D

Thanks for listening to me ramble, and hopefully this is the right place for this thread. I usually just lurk forums, but I'm enjoying learning what little I've managed to learn about fighting games and Blazblue in particular so I thought I'd reach out to you guys and see what help or advice you can provide.
