Is there another way to tk Mondlicht? For some reason I can barely do it on a hitbox but its easier (still inconsistent) on pad. My problem is that I can play better with hitbox. its just the tk214 which gives me troubles :<

If you're having issues doing 2147B, try (7/8/9)214B or vice-versa if you're having issues with inputting the jump before the 214. Personally, I find the second way easier in BB, but that's just me.

lol just switched to hotbox as well, i got the timing down by jumping with my right thumb, and just make sure to hit the 214 complete, i mess it up by doing 217 and skipping the 4 input :(

Hi all you Valk players. I just picked up Valk about two days ago and I've found a really, really like this character. Through out BBCP I've played Terumi, Azrael, Ragna, and had a brief period of playing Hazama. So, Valk is the most difficult character that I want to actually learn and I'm still getting adjusted to the character. My main questions are what are some good starting points with him? What should I learn first with him like what are some good starter combos, notable normals for both human and wolf form, ect. Any advice would be appreciated. :)

Edit: Feel free to ignore this. Just saw the Valk Strat Guide Thread and have been looking over it.

I should really put a notice to direct new Valk players to that thread.

Mostly what you need to know is in the first and second posts (maybe the third depending on where you stand in your progress). If you have any further questions please feel free to ask!

It's a really good guide.  I'm new to the game & have tried him a bit in vs. after using him in training for a few weekends.  How long did it take people to use him well in vs.?

I often avoid wolf form because it's difficult for me, but know it's important for him.  Either this guy or Kagura will be my 2nd sub.  Went through lots of combos in his section, but are there simple ones that end in a DD?  I tend to do them raw because I'm not sure how to combo them in.

Thanks mate.

For me when I started learning him in CS1 I think it took me like around a month(?) to get a good grasp on him. Valk's learning curve is pretty high so it's not a problem if it takes you a while to get him down (not too long to become discouraging I hope haha).

One of the main problems new players have when trying out Valk is that they spend too much time in human mode. If you're having trouble with movement and stuff, considering simply using the wolf's dash speed and poking with w5A (maybe w5C too). That'll help you get used to it. JUst moving back and forth provides a threat for opponents. I also made a tutorial on wolf movement so that might help you out some (mainly the beginning).

With the combos, I assume you're talking about human ender DDs. With the ground DD you can do most relatively simple combos into it but some of the corner ones may require some trickier stuff, namely requiring you to use tk.214B. With the Air DD, anything into j.C can be followed up into it. I don't know how basic you want, but some examples are:

Midscreen

- 5B > 3C / 5C > 632146D

- Throw > 236C > 5B > 2C > j.B > dj.B > j.C > j.236236C

Corner:

- Throw > 2C > 6B > 5B > 2C > j.B > dj.B > j.C > j.236236C

- 5B > 3C > 236A > 5B > 2C > j.B > dj.B > j.C > j.236236C

- 5B > 3C > 236A > 2A > 2C > tk.214B > 6C > 3C > 632146D

Those are perfect, thanks.  I like to keep things simple especially when new to something & don't like dropping combos.  I'll spend some time training in wolf form using stuff from the guide as well.

Hello, would it be a good idea to start playing valk? My execution is decent at best, and need things to work on other aspects. He looks very cool, and like martial arts.

Definetely yes. Whether it's to play a unique character to learn new aspects of the game, have a very competitive character or need a sub for rough matchups, Valk is a great and very rewarding choice.
In fact, there aren't really any reason to not play him at all due to how good he is other than preference so if you like him, don't hesitate.

Execution-wise, he's really not as hard as people often mention even if you plan to go into the most optimized combos. Though, I've played him for years so I might be quite biased.

Learning neutral and optimizing your wolf gauge use will most likely be the most important part of his learning curve but then again, so is any character that uses unique ressources.

If you want a place to get started, I would suggest you to first go check the wiki and read carefully his move list in order to know what to use when.
Moving around in wolf mode and familiarizing with it is also very important.
There are a few useful movement options you can test like:
Transform in wolf mode>jump>airdash>jD

Or what we commonly refer as w66D. If you did it right, you will do a big leap across the screen. And that's just one of the many things you can do in neutral.
Once you feel like you're understanding him better, I would suggest you to check Kiba's strategy guide !

If you still got questions or need help for something specific, feel free to post on the Valk board. We aren't a lot but we are all quite friendly and always glad to have newcomers willing to join the wolf pack !

Any tips on how to get  w.5C > w.j.5A right? My friend is ripping his hair out trying to get this and I don't play Valk so I wanted to ask the veterans about this instead.
