Jordunable Report post Posted November 20, 2012 Hey team, just a few questions if you could help me out. When it comes to fighting games, in my head I like a character who has pretty much all even match ups, but when it comes to actually playing I like a character who is fairly aggressive but still safe at the same time. Think Ibuki in ssfiv. Is Platinum for me do you think? I feel comfortable with her combos and I like the way she moves, but if she has more then 2 characters who she pretty much can't win against then I may go with a different character. I was thinking of maybe going for Jin, but then again he isn't a cute girl doing cute things. I'm a complete noob when it comes to BB, so I would appreciate some help Edit: Also is there a useful guide for platinum out there?
Cirno Report post Posted November 20, 2012 >all even match ups not even close haha, but she's still fun if you put in the effort. there's nobody in the game she 'can't win against', but there's lots of uneven matchups with her at the lower end of the stick. as for a guide, try reading through the first post of the thread. lots of helpful information, including a link to the wiki! lol. if you have any more questions after that, feel free to ask! Jordunable Report post Posted November 20, 2012 Yeah I really should of read through the first post. I'm one of those guys apparently. Kind of disappointed to hear her match ups are unstable, but I may just stick with her as the Platinum board doesn't seem hostile or anything. I'm playing this game for fun mostly anyways. Thanks. A Classy Gamer Report post Posted July 14, 2013 Is this character anything like Faust from Guilty Gear? Want to know so I can justify tracking down a copy of Extend. (Borrowed my friend's copy of CS2 while I looked for a main)
InWithTheAshes Report post Posted July 15, 2013 If you believed the similarity to be within the item system, then no. While both are indeed randomly generated, Plat's items are "equipped" with a limited number of uses and an equal probability of occurence, rather than Faust's, which is essentially a projectile roulette.
SoWL Report post Posted July 15, 2013 I'd also say that Platinum is more rushdown-oriented, while Faust has better zoning.
A Classy Gamer Report post Posted July 17, 2013 Oh I actually love it when I get to rush in with Faust. A match isn't complete unless I land "GOING MY WAY". I was really impressed with Platinum because of the random equipment, staff normals, and even the pogo stick remind me of Faust when I watch a video of her. As long as I'm reacting to the items to dictate my actions as strongly as Faust needs to, I'm happy.
Moy_X7 Report post Posted July 17, 2013 I was really impressed with Platinum because of the random equipment, staff normals, and even the pogo stick remind me of Faust when I watch a video of her. That should be enough of a reason for you to pick her up. 5A is godlike (hits crouchers, good speed and reach), 2B is godlike (good reach, low profiles under stuff), j.C is godlike (tons of active frames, good reach), TK Swallow leads to confusion and no item is a bad item. As long as you can use her normals and specials efficiently, the items are there as an added bonus.
someonewhodied Report post Posted July 21, 2013 can someone try to record a video of this SMP combo I saw a while back? (Bat and Pan items) 2C(CH)>Gold Burst x2>Pan>Air Pan>Take out Bat>Bat>Air Bat>Item Distortion (Pan)>Fan>Air Fan>Item Distortion(Bat)>Spike Bat>Air Spike Bat>Bubble(B I think)>662B(Whiff Crossunder)>[Heart Car xN>632146C>RC]x3 (400 Heat)
Camalange Report post Posted August 20, 2013 So this might be more of an issue with me not having played enough to understand the engine fully, but I find that I have a lot of trouble on wakeup when playing against people online. I know Platinum has little to no access to reversals unless you're lucky enough to have the bat equipped or want to spend the meter on CDT, but are there any general tips for how to try to get up safely from the corner and stuff as Platinum? I feel like I eat things I really shouldn't have to if I knew what was going on. I get picked up on wakeup way too easily. I guess it just depends on what tools your opponent has, but just thought I'd ask and see if there was something I was missing.
InWithTheAshes Report post Posted August 21, 2013 There really isn't much to do with defense meterless as Plat aside from block. And even if you have the bat, that generally dies to jump ins. However, she does build meter greatly, so unless you're being completely destroyed you'll probably have CA/CDT available anyway. Just make sure to use them unpredictably: They can both be easily baited.
Camalange Report post Posted August 21, 2013 Alright, got it. I think I just need to be less stupid in my decisions of whether to roll or not. Sometimes I hit the ground and the just roll right into the next set up lol. Also nice sig, lmao, that was said in regards to me xD
iora Report post Posted August 21, 2013 learn what common strings you can IB mash/IB throw/IB jump out also. delayed neutral tech is s reasonable tool also, but be careful on that one.
Camalange Report post Posted August 21, 2013 Okay, so certain strings can be IB'd and then retaliated against? I'll have to become more familiar with this. Thanks!

iora Report post Posted October 4, 2013 midscreen, you will be fine with whatever into heart car if your brand new corner, you can do something like.... whatever into 5c, heart car, 5c, 2c, bubble, jump, j.b, j.c, double jump, j.b, j.c, 236a-aaa is really simple 5b and j.c are good normals to poke with, her regular throw is good mixup and leads to damage, you can do things into 3c into 22c most of the time, 6a and 2c are god anti airs, dont go too nuts if you get bat, look at our combo thread and try to get hammer loop down midscreen, or the better midscreen stuff/basic item combos if you are overwhelmed, dont worry about item combos, dont worry about j236c stuff, dont worry about multiple 22c in combos. keep it simple until you are ready to learn things. InWithTheAshes Report post Posted October 4, 2013 Adapting to items isn't really hard. Just treat it has having an extra normal with limited uses. Also, look at what items are more useful in every situation (missiles and bombs are fine in neutral and oki, catsitck is an excellent footsie tool, pan and hammer are offense items, bat is a DP), so you know if it would be better to Momo if you think it's affordable (later, you can get to the slightly more advanced decision of what item is generally better for each matchup). 5A and 2A, as "uninteresting" as it might seem, are your main pressure tools: They're excellent staggers and really safe to throw out. 6B is also useful in that: It sucks as an overhead, but it's your only + move without items. Trying to get people to respect you during her pressure is probably the most important part of it: Once they respect you, you can go for things like TK swallow that would die to disrespect, but can really prove efficient if they don't. Errol Report post Posted October 4, 2013 6b isn't really + in CP I think.
InWithTheAshes Report post Posted October 4, 2013 It isn't, but he did ask for Extend advice. Then again, I'm not sure if there's much reason for him to do so when it's only 20 days until Phantasma's release .
Errol Report post Posted October 4, 2013 Yeah I think everything else is still true for CP though so just mentioning it.
Moy_X7 Report post Posted October 5, 2013 6B is still + in CP as long as you space it correctly. If you use it point blank and it gets blocked, you're prone to getting punished (-7 point blank).
Errol Report post Posted October 5, 2013 Yeah, but it's at least not +15 anymore or something, so you have to bait DPs in CP.
