Eddie vs. Testament

Recommended Posts

after watching some japanese ed vs te vids and discovering how much it resembles my own matches vs the local testa, i feel confident enough to comment on this matchup: this battle is hard as its annoying. he who has the momentum will win. j.k good air to air and great in the corner as you jump up and attack so you will prevent him from jumping. but the main jump-in should be j.s. if your close enough or in the corner you can jump on him for free and fuck up his mind with flying and cross ups. don't do if your midscreen and not close enough cuz he can jump backwards and j.s->badlands not fun. use j.s to erase nets (j.k tends not to work at close range) and fly high to erase his trees and land on him from above. i ussually stand right outside the h exebeast range. from there you can hit him with far drill a tree plant or iad an exebeast. yomi that shit! if youre far away he will usually use s exe beast and you can't get to him with iad anyways so just keep flying above it. 2s is a great poke but it loses to his 2h. when you want to poke him at that range but you think he will do 2h, instead of delaying it's easier for me to just do far s instead. the last hit will beat his 2h. try to block on reaction the 6p as much as you can. yeah it seems impossible to do 100% but even 40% is good. if you can survive his mixup preassure it will leave him w/o tension so he can't frc and can't super you. so now's your chance to take the match b4 he gets tension again. bad lands isn't safe but a tiger kneed one is. so be careful of it when you approach him by the air. but the best tip i have is something i have yet to see in matchvids, and it helps me ALOT- put an S drill right infront of him! it's like in super turbo when chun li does her lightning kicks right infront of the opponent and he is stuck cuz he can't attack. same thing here- testa can't attack (and he also can't reversal the drill doh!). also the drill will cancel an H exebeast (it will still be on the screen but it won't hit you) so you will be free to move in when the drill is active and attack or move in and grab or summon the shadow.

If he is always using 2H after you summon, just summon into delayed -P- into 22S, then -H-, unblockable. You can also delay your -S- and go for the CH into stun combo.

necromancy derp.

How does Eddie deal with Testament's poison super? This thing kicks my ass and switches momentum relatively free at the moment. It goes like this:

1. It kills my shadow, although I might be able to punish him for it a little (lol shadowless combos) he gets what he wants.

2. He actually hits me instead of the shadow, which is really annoying because it appears to be random who gets hit. Either now I'm poisoned or forced to block incoming exe beast frc strings, great.

3. I make it whiff, since this thing is huge this implies I'm superjumping out of it and won't be able to do anything to Testa anyway, rather I need to gtfo so I don't get airthrown or 5P'd.

I tried to come up with random stuff myself like BTL or air SG setups but none of those worked out, lol. I either get hit anyway or he recovers in time, it's really awkward so maybe I'm just doing something wrong there?

I can handle the matchup pretty well overall until he gets the momentum switch with this thing anyway. Any protips?

Poison super is no big deal at all. Just jump into it and block, that way the shadow will survive. It's 50% tension that he'll be spending for it so if you bait it out and block it you'll win that exchange.

If you want to keep momentum just run up and BTL while doing shadow -p- to use it's invul to get in and punish.
