[CSE] Rachel vs. Lambda

Recommended Posts

Summary

Lambda is one of Rachel’s harder match-ups.

Rachel doesn’t have many safe ways to summon. Patience is the key to win this MU.

Lambda’s defense is still bad, make us of that and carry her to the corner as soon as you score a hit. She can’t do anything as long as she doesn’t have 50 meter to use her Calamity Sword (632146C) super.

Fullscreen

Being at fullscreen doesn’t benefit you. Lambda can punish all your summon attempts. The only time you can summon safely is when she uses Spike Chaser (214D(~C)). Your best bet is to get pumpkin out while trying to avoid the spike chaser. You can also try to stuff the spike chaser with your 5B because it has a projectile attribute. Lambda can easily CH 5D you if you keep stuffing 5B, so use it sparely. With pumpkin out, you can start approaching her. Pumpkin stuffs Swords, but disappears afterwards. This isn’t much of a drawback though because Lambda will be stuck in her long recovery after a sword so you can at least start to pressure or even combo her.

Note: A summoned pumpkin on the ground will fly over Lambda’s 5D.

You can also try to place some rods instead of summoning pumpkin to make Lambda think twice before using swords.

Another good option is a winded (air) dash. With a winded air dash you are able to punish Lambdas recovery of 5D and 4D, a winded dash punishes a whiffed 6D. Mixing both up can make Lambda’s life a bit harder.

The last option is to use Tempest Dahlia. This is very useful, punishes every D button press of Lambda and gives you enough time to dash to her and summon frog oki. The only time where it won’t work is when the sword is already hitting you some frames after the superflash or when she does Legacy Edge (236236D).

Midscreen

Lambdas normals are bad, but she has some ways to annoy you. IAD backwards j.2DD is going to hit you if you try to poke her, j.DD can bait you if you want to jump over j.2DD.

Her air normals are easy to AA, but she can also bait it with j.2DD.

Pressure

Lambdas pressure and high-low mix-up is tricky to block.

Out of any j.c-able (5A, 6A, 5B, 6B, 2C) normal she can go for TK crescent saber (j.214D) or TK crescent saber feint (j.214D~C).

If you manage to block the crescent saber, Lambdas pressure ends. Be careful when she has 50 heat though. Most Lambdas will rapid cancel the crescent to go for a combo with either 5[C] or 5D. It’s not gapeless on block and you will get hit if you tried something like dash 2A.

If Lambda goes for the crescent saber feint, she has more options.

  • Crescent feint into 3C (low)
  • Crescent feint into IAD j.X (high)
  • Crescent feint into dash grab

Her 4B(2) overhead is slow, but if spaced right the first hit of 4B will whiff and it becomes an instant overhead. Common set-ups are

    • Sickle Storm (236D(~C)) dash 4B
    • 5C (3-5 hits?) 4B

If Lambda rushes in front of you with Act Parser Zwei (236A), she can bait a throw break attempt with her Gravity Seed (214X) and scores a fatal counter leading into big damage. You can prevent it with OS throw, but this opens you up for a TRM setup like 5A > throw.

Some Lambdas will try stupid things like 3C 236D on block. Make sure to jump before 236D is summoned and punish her accordingly. Make sure you jump early enough not to get hit by 236D during the start-up of your jump. You can also punish a close Spike Chaser with 5B if you are fast enough.

    Rachel pressure

Nothing special here. Just do what you always do. Just be aware that Lambdas 4B has foot attribute invul. Ending your blockstrings with 5CDC 236A, aside from being always a bad idea, can be punished by Lambda with 3C before your A lobelia hits.

    Lambda oki tips

You can escape her 3C > Sickle Storm oki with a winded neutral tech and even punish the recovery of it. Lambda will eventually stop going for Sickle Storm if you keep wind teching.

This also works with Act Parcer Zwei: Blade (236B) > 236D~C. She can still get oki if she baits your wind tech with 236D because you will tech right in front of the 236D.

    Character specific details

    Corner combo:

    5B > 5CDC > 214A > 3C(3) > 236A > (dash) > 4B/6B > 5CC > (dash) > 3C(3) > 214C > 3C(1)~frog oki

Thanks to Sakaku for the write-up.

random stuff:

i haven't had very much luck with tempest dahlia in this mu because i usually get counter hit by 4d or 5d bc lambdas (severin) are expecting it

if lambdas try to dash under and 2d you while you air-summon pumpkin, you should just not summon pumpkin and random j.2c them lololol

lambda's 5d looks pretty foolish if you dash then jump 3d j.C them, going right over the 5d lol

i've only seen severin do this, but just putting it out there, lambda can rapid cancel 4b into 2b after the first hit to totally blow your mind for huge damage in the corner.

Worth being aware that a number of characters can mess with you with those types of multi-hit moves. Notably, Lamda, Mu, and Hakumen.
