I-no vs Axl

Recommended Posts

Mynus, you make it sound so easy :gonk: This is one of my most difficult matchups with her, and today I lost to an OK Axl who just kept throwing out random pokes *sigh* Thanks for the tips Digital Watches, I didn't think I'd face an Axl player today considering you guys are few in number around here.

just get in and poke

just be careful when you try to mix them up.

Awesome! Gonna use this advice in every match!!

I-no DO's and DON'Ts

Any game except AC: Stroke under Axl 2p (fuck axl 2 hit normals)

Never stroke predictably against Axl, he is not Johnny where 1870 of his normals don't hit

HCL beats things like 5p or trades if you read it too late, rensengeki beats your HCL

Depending on the distance, things likes I-no's jp/js or 6hs if you had time are better to beat Axl's 6hs than I-no's 6p

Don't bother punishing Axl after blocking bomber, many do 2k and your punish will miss. Best to poke him out of the bomber before it comes out (hard to do if you didn't read it), back dash the bomber, slash back the bomber, jump out of the way and either punish with a dive or set something else up etc

Don't wake up super like an idiot, he can counter with or without tension but I think most Axl's only go for it when they have 50 too, forget what happens if he normal counters it with the 623 one.

I'll thiink of more later!

Honnou speaks the truth! I wanna make some notes though.

Any game except AC: Stroke under Axl 2p (fuck axl 2 hit normals)

Indeed. I actually recommend not using that move much at all in this match unless you're sure you'll punish something. On reaction, Axl can 6H, 3P, or 2H you of it, and those first two make you hurt HARD on CH.

Don't wake up super like an idiot, he can counter with or without tension but I think most Axl's only go for it when they have 50 too, forget what happens if he normal counters it with the 623 one.

Technically Axl only needs 25% now, since they made the followup a FB

I usually keep my distance and throw out a few far slashes and hcl's until i can get a note out. then i can 6p/airthrow him from the air, or get closer and scare him with Tk dives, strokes, pokes, and mix up. stroking is nice, but it is lowly recommended.

the best thing you can take away from this match up!

What he said also applies to Raeisageki in a lot of situations.

Oh yeah, that and bomber's like, +7 on block (From low, but still), so Axl can actually link a 5K off of it as a blockstring (Even 2K will technically work, but it's a 1F link, so it's more likely to be a false gap type thing)

I've been getting some practice with this matchup lately against a guy who plays a bunch of characters very solid, but doesn't have much creativity. This matchup with him is the worst since my Axl experience isn't so hot. I've basically played against him and another Axl that doesn't play as much as I do. If that one zones me, I'll lose, but if I play ballsy and just walk all over him, I don't have any issues since he can't reliably bomber loop. Unfortunately, the new guy I practice with can Bomber Loop, so I'm getting combo'd for 80% out of the slightest **** up, and I **** up constantly since I don't have the tech skill for most BnBs. I might win 1 round out of 30 with his Axl.

All I've really learned is:

I can't deal with Rashou sen. I can react to its startup, so I could jump out every time, but I'll get AA'd by his cancel on reaction to my jump. If I delay it long enough to see it start, even if I see the green from my 1-frame jump, I get hit by it. I can't dash over it or get anything to work here.

Slashback 6H on reaction. I started to IB it on reaction and I'll punish any attempt at continuing pressure, but that's just not enough since I can't get combos out of 2K/5K (especially since he could bait the punish and punish that if he was paying more attention), so I decided to put a little practice into SBing it. I could powershield Falco's laser consistently in Melee to reflect it and the window is 2 frames like SB, so it took almost no effort since Axl's 6H is super telegraphed. There's really no excuse to not learn how to SB this move. I need to learn to SB 2H next (the 2nd hit on reaction should also be mandatory. Actually, I think most 2nd hits of Axls moves should be relatively easy to practice since I have experience with this sort of timing).

I seem to lose every poke, get CH'd > bomber loop. If I just let him come to me and pressure, I can usually IB > something unless I get a backdash, in which case I get boned on reaction.

That's about all I got from this matchup with all of this practice (probably at least 50 losses vs him under my belt, vs 2 wins). Nothing works for me. I get out-zoned all game, and when I get in I drop my combos or pressure and get reversal thrown or AA'd into an 80% combo.

I generally know what he wants to do... pretty much all the time. I just can't beat it. Anyone know what pokes beat what, besides what's mentioned already? That'd save me a lot of experimenting, and I'll just have to work on not dropping combos into his bomber loop, or throw resets vs his I-No. His Zappa and Baiken and generally any of the other characters he plays don't bother me. It's the Axl matchup that I can't win period. At least I know what I need to be doing vs his I-No.

Jump forward, IB his 6hs, even in strings to get a guaranteed throw punish.

Alternatively, IB the hit right before he strings to 6hs (2nd hit of 2hs, 5hs, etc.) and you can jump combo him out of 6hs (moderately difficult).

If he strings into bomber from say a point blank 5k tk bomber, you can him out of the bomber before it comes down.

^^^heres the last axl player I played. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INUvR5Na-4o

you'll noticed at the beginning of the match pretty much everything I do get snuffed. My gameplan changes from trying to attack him to simply waiting for him to make the first move before I react.

:gonk::gonk:

i HATE when 5k 632147896 k comes out as a superjump that crap happens to me too
