[CP] Rachel vs. Bullet

"ENGAGING!" More like "ENRAGING!" (for us).

This matchup is a pain for Rachel if you let Bullet get in (which is, unfortunately, not too uncommon). Her drive allows her to stay on you even if you try to wind out of close combat. Her Afterburner special let's her increase the range of her drive. What this means is that she can chase you with drive even if you wind & backdash out!

I don't have much advice on this matchup yet as I've yet to convincingly win against a competent Bullet.

What seemed to work is to emphasize the full-screen game since she is noticeably less effective at full-screen range. At this range her only options are to activate Afterburner or attempt to zone with Flint Shooter (the Powerwave ground projectile).

At all costs, keep Bullet in the corner. On wake-up she has a command grab that can act like a reversal but with Rachel's strong oki options you can easily mitigate this situation.

Oh yeah and one more thing... she does have command grabs. Keep an eye out on her meter since she has both a command grab and a command grab super.

Just some friendly tips.

Bullet's defense is Ass, and even with a reversal, we have to block a lot and find the best moment to use it. It also doesn't help that Bullet's HP is below average. (I think she has slightly more then Ragna.)

Also, Bullet's Afterburner has a guard point against projectiles, but it's recovery frames don't have any guard points, so that's probably a good time to throw a pumpkin to punish.

Also, we rely more on Bullet's Lock On Lv's then actual meter. We can pretty much stockpile heat and never use it because Bullet's special follow ups do some damage and go into combos where she gain 1 Lock On lv back. However, this means you should watch out for the Command Grab super, and Crush Triggers as well. (But the super is predictable because it needs to be buffered either with over drive or a non jump cancelable move like 5C.)

Anyway, Just going to go ahead and say I have a great deal of respect for Rachel Players, and I'm trying to learn her myself. But I'm still struggling greatly with her newer combos in CP.

Note that Bullet's non-super command grab completely whiffs on crouchers, so that's one less mix-up to worry about. That is, unless she goes for the aerial mix-up with 6C (hit you with the ankle move, jump-cancel it, then either perform an air normal or land and go for the low/grab).

I'd say that Rachel is slightly more mobile than Bullet, even with both of their Drives in the picture. Basically, Rachel can go wherever the hell she wants, while Bullet can only get in or standby. Abuse this mobility, don't let Bullet to Afterburner, and you should be fine.

I think I managed to do a Tech > D and went straight into one of bullets command grabs. (things went so fast, may be I should watch the match in replay and check) Felt like the "Extend Tech > D into Bang j.623C". So I'm going to be weary of that in future if I'm thinking of doing a winded tech.

After playing this matchup a bit, I've come to the conclusion that it is even, or slightly in bullet's favor. I actually this this match tends to be straightforward. Not to say it is always advantageous, but i'd like to do a writeup explaining my opinion soon, probably today, and see what you guys have to say on the matter, assuming anyone else has played a good bullet.

Lol I think this is free for Rachel. Granted I only played one good Bullet (offline), but he said "fuck this matchup" and switched to Valk. Bullet has a hard very time approaching Rachel and B lotus just makes things worse. I had a much, much, easier time fighting Bullet with Rachel rather than my own Valk (a matchup which is probably 5.5 for Bullet), which is personally meaning a lot to me. I will agree this is not a real argument though and tbh I don't have much to say right now since I believe Rachel's tools naturally shut down characters like Bullet so I'd rather wait for your post and see if that will change my mind. I can understand why she can be hard to deal with once she's in but I don't think that's enough to justify having a bad matchup. To the extreme I would say this is even, though for now I say easily in Rachel's favor.

Also, watching N-O vs Bullet is usually pretty sad (despite his overwhelming skill he makes it fairly easy to understand match-ups imo).

do you have any videos of him playing a good one?

l don't recall ever seeing him fight a bullet, perhaps he can put some things into perspective.

Bullet's just one of those characters who has a hard time starting momentum, but once she does, things can get very frustrating for her opponent.

Edited my post which I thought was pretty unexplained, though I don't have much else to say right now. Ironically I think there's only one where he plays a really good Bullet back in April and he lost, but honestly he didn't play well at all.

I never had any problems playing Rachel vs one of our stronger player's sub Bullet. She does ok ish in the matchup but she just doesn't really have the speed to get in easily like a lot of the other faster rushdown characters that can give Rachel trouble.

She is also constantly in the predicament of "I want to get charge,but he will just fill the screen with shit". George + Pumpkin + pole >>> heat levels imo. A lot of the time you can counter hit her out of the charge recovery too.

If she gets in with heat level 2 and meter to burn you can get blown up rather quickly. So I don't exactly think its free but i think it is in our favor.

The first vid emphasised common mistakes rachel player might make when learning the matchup. Looking at it I see several instances where NO did not play optimally. The bullet just ran their variation of a normal gameplan. Likewise, the second video, while it showed NO playing the matchup correctly after so much time has passed, the bullet was completely stumped as if they did not know the matchup. He didnt even get one combo which should say alot within itself.

Not exactly what I was looking for, though the first vid as stated emphasised mistakes and the second showed a little what to do if being pressured.
