[P4AU] Teddie vs Yukari

Recommended Posts

Everyone could use more matchup experience against yukari, but here's what I've found so far.

Yukari can be really difficult to catch with her zoning tools and feather flip.  Her main zoning pressure involves using B button along with her 5D/2D that gives her arrows the ability to lock on to you.  This leads to easy punishes of item toss.  I've had some success using TVs to hit her persona and also block the arrow, but this needs some more testing.  Breaking her persona seems like the optimal neutral game strategy along with getting some items out when you can.

I do need more matchup experience against Yukari, but one thing I've figured might be important is that SB Bearscrew is projectile invul, which should allow you to slice through the Persona and hit her at the same time if she's in the midst of an arrow move. Decide between that and SB Teddievision (since she can just avoid it by jumping or Feather Flip) to keep her on her toes and don't let her out of your sight once you get in.

Also agreeing that tossing items when you can find gaps in her pressure can help; Smart Bomb discourages her from flipping or jumping too much, and Bike Keys and Oil Drum are great as always.

It's possible to missile her when she's doing 236A/B, but the call-out has to be pretty precise.

I got some good matchup experience on friday.  One really useful too for her is going to be your 2B, which can sometimes hurt her if she decides to end her blockstring with j.B.  2B can also hit her persona with some safety and its backdash cancellable.  As mentioned before, TVs are good for hitting her persona and blocking her 5B.  SB teddie screw goes right through her 236A/B. Another thing I found out, after hitting 5D/2D, your persona is still out.  If yukari tries to hit it with an arrow, there's a certain timing to pressing D again with the persona still out and it will give the persona some projectile invulnerability.  This will save you a card - really useful, and not just for this matchup.

One other thing to watch for, she can end her combos with feather flip SB arrow in the corner, which can give you either mute or confusion.  Both are bad, but together they make it confusing on which way to block when you tech.  Be aware of this setup.

her offense is extremely strong but she has a hard time setting it up with all the items on the screen and kuma driver (ex bearscrew). I just go wild with jBs (as she doesn't have a reliable AA) and hope for the best. her tornado super has no invul so it loses to EX TVs and teddie circus, I need to test and see if you can input teddie circus during the flash to blow it up

so doing EX circus during the flash allows you to evade but it's not worth it unless yukari doesn't have meter for another garudyne as you'll only really hit her if she's caught off guard. delayed tech DP also works on garudyne but yukari should be able to punish if she's on point. after playing a set with a yukari player today this matchup is a lot harder than I thought it was. I don't think the rushdown tactic I mentioned earlier is really worth it anymore, you have to be willing to full screen and give up persona cards for good items. what makes it really BS is the garudyne and that jump-away bow that does status effects as 2B will not auto correct for the bow attack and you're forced to read one and AA with 2C. when she's in awakening MAKE SURE you stay IN THAT ASS. if you get hit by one of her 236As, delay tech or else you're eating a huge unblockable reset. I remember people saying that Teddie wins MU kinda free. PLEASE enlighten me my fellows Kumas if you know what to do, I am completely lost and am mashing 5B and 2B like there is no tomorrow against her.

I have recently gotten to play multiple sets with a good Yukari player and have some footing on the matchup now. Stay in 5B range as it really blows her up. Once the Yukari player feels the need to yomi roll or jump it, you're in business and can start being more aggressive. This is a super momentum based matched, she does not have anything outside of DP to mash in pressure so she has to block a lot. Staggering 5AA and 2A with blocks is very effective. Throw a random 2C to keep her honest. If you let her breathe, she will set up her zoning and you will be forced to play her game so try to bully her in 5B range. Her setplay is really cheap too but she doesn't have too many ways/chances to open you up in pressure, so be content with blocking.

Don't forget that unlike Yukiko, Yukari can't really hammer at you that much from fullscreen outside of Magarula - blocking high will block everything from fullscreen and give you meter for blocking, forcing her to come to you or letting you wait till you have enough meter for SB Bearscrew/TVs.. Arrows are indeed annoying, but if you're patient you'll be able to find holes in her defence. Remember that her defense is pretty weak, so if you get a chance to close in don't let her go that easily.

IMO sitting fullscreen is not ideal in this matchup. She can make you block a lot and then approach safely and make you hold her jA/5A/throw mixup. You can bully her quite effectively in 5B range so there is no reason to not try to be there instead of fullscreen.
