Bandit Revolver

Ragna Critique and Self-Improvement Thread

Recommended Posts

First time poster in this thread.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FlKgwipFPU0  Rip me a new one,  there's plenty of ammo in that video. :gonk:

This video is kinda old but it's the most recent long set that I have.

P.S-Even though it says we're part of the same group in the video description I live an hour away from him so we don't get to play each other very often.

I'll be sure to give you a detailed review this weekend or before hand when I get the spare time so keep an open eye out for it, I'm glad other players are putting up their efforts in this thread in order to get the help they need.

Here's my Ragna in action after a 3 week break since P4U2 release, I dropped things and made choices I never thought I would. I would express extreme concern but I think I'll wait for the 2.0 version to come out before I put in some extreme training like I did before. Feel free to critique but enjoy the video while you're at it.

So I only watched this video and noticed you have a whole collection of videos, if you provided these much sooner I could've been a subscriber a long ass time ago and helped critique your whole action while in the process, you should blame yourself for not sharing as often no matter how old the video is. So let's get down to business while I don't chew you a new one.

-You don't instant block

-you don't adjust your guard because the multiple overheads Valk got against you

-Don't apply rapid pressure

- Your spacing is poor

- Remove 5D during your lockdown, you're hindering your performance to a great degree

- Your lack of committing to a confirm and starting over with a different confirm or returning back to neutral

- Your 6A CH can be withheld into 5B 5D (1) 214A xn

- Apply micro dashes to make confirms a hell of a lot easier

You applied some unique confirms which is a plus but when it's not guaranteed I rather you not commit to it and vary up your options slightly more. Return back to your neutral state and learn your basic bnb's without the requirement of heat or going into OD, you're just overwhelming yourself with too much at once that you have Ragna flailing lifelessly in a match.

Thanks for the critique

- Your spacing is poor

Could you point out a few specific points in the video where this is occurs?  I'm not really sure where I should be standing when fighting Valk

I'm seriously out of practice with this character after a couple of months out but I thought it would be fun to continue sharing. This a quick set with a member of the offline scene and if you were to read the description you can find the whole archive linking to Twitch. Excuse the poor performance but have a fun time watching it. I also realized I'm not so hot in the Relius match-up unless I'm seriously off my game.

p.s.- 1.1 Ragna

Before anything, I must admit that I'm quite horrible playing Ragna and my execution is kinda edgy since I've just switched to a stick recently and still having a hard time in moving such as dash, IAD, and Z motion

Aside that, I feel like I'm still lacking neutral game, and some pressure to keep my opponent in one place

Still, I need some feedback on this. I feel like I'm still missing something

p.s Ragna CSE, I'm the one in Red

You're missing better combos and a proper gameplan.

Your only combos are pretty much normals into Hell's Fang, and I didnt see any metered combos (they're so strong) at all. So go to the combo thread and learn a couple of new combos, specially 5B> 6A routes, anti air, 6B combos, ...2D (RC) combos and Throw combos. Trust me, learning better combos can really make a difference. Train as hard as you can to not drop them as well, but this is Ragna we're talking about so it shouldn't be a problem lol

http://www.dustloop.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4031-cse-ragna-combo-threaddiscussion/

I made everything easier by sorting the easiest, but imporant, combos so for now just focus on learning the Green combos. Then learn the black combos, then red combos and if that's not enough take a look at the wiki: http://www.dustloop.com/wiki/index.php?title=Ragna_the_Bloodedge_%28BBCSE%29

Combos help but they're not everything. So on the topic of gameplan, well there's alot to cover to I'll try to keep it simple. First, whenever you get knocked down and techs block. Blocking is super good, you'll greatly reduce any damage taken, so this should be your move whenever you're disadvantaged. And more importantly, block and dont press any buttons! Be patient and wait for an opportunity to start your gameplan when you get back to neutral. And do not delay your wakeup/tech too much, you can get badly punished for that (you'll let yourself eat a new combo), so get up as soon as possible.

Now to neutral. Wait and see how your opponent plays first. That particular opponent could've been anti aired so many times, he loved doing IAD j.C (Your answer is 6A). He was delaying his wakeup/tech too much, you can start a new combo on him if you use 2B to pick him up. Show him that delaying tech is a bad idea.

Remember that you can also Airthrow in this game, and Ragna's is pretty good. That could've been a powerful tool in that match, because he was just jumping way too much out of everything you did.

It's also important to know what moves to use during neutral, they are: 5B (his main poke), 6A (Antiair), 2B (low poke), j.A (air poke, beats many things) and j.C (air-to-ground/air, very versatile move). That's it, these are the moves that will help you to get in and start something. They're safe and hard to beat if used correctly. So forget about using Hell's Fang on neutral.

I'd cover the offense/blockstrings now but I feel that the post is becoming way too long and overhelming, so for now just practice combos and watch how the best players use Ragna, here are a few links:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BITYBcwPxfc

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nF4UC1Vy5Ws

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eY8_zOyv1ls

The wiki also covers alot about pressure and blockstrings (you'll definitely need these) so take a look (See Strategy, Offense):

http://www.dustloop.com/wiki/index.php?title=Ragna_the_Bloodedge_%28BBCSE%29

Take your time, read carefully and try to incorporate these into your gameplay. It takes time, it wont be easy, results take time but if you practice and play alot you'll definitely improve!

Peace.

thanks man

I appreciate the help

I'm looking into it and hopefully I'll become less suck than now

the only thing that holding me back with new combo is the face that I still cant get a hang of the stick. Like I cant move the way I wanted sometimes. It's really a pain in the neck

I've been ignoring the game for a little while but I believe it's about time to take off the weights and show you guys a quick one two. This performance is pretty bad as of returning back but with some advice and constant uploads I'm sure it won't be long before I'm at my reasonable performance. I don't know any match-ups or proper follow-ups so don't be too strict. Thanks in advance for the advice.
