Es is like Makoto and Terumi. She's pre-order free
Mai is like Kokonoe, and is paid DLC.

We haven't got someone like Mu or Kagura who is unlocked when you finish the story mode.

I summon RorouniLoneWolf to support me in my darkest hour (or to go down with me)

I hate to be that SoBa, but Makoto was never pre-order, she was the series' first legitimate DLC character. CS had no pre-order DLC (what a time, right?)

The second row says "Story Mode" so yes, those are the anime cutscenes. It's sad that there aren't more but that isn't surprising since CP only had one more than that (and one of those was ripped straight from the anime). They generally only animate a few key fights anyway.

It is weird, I mean, CF is suposed to be longer than CP and the latter has more cutscenes? WTF?

Btw, I was looking some screenshots and saw something very fishy there. In the story mode screenshot, you can notice that, when selecting a part of Story Mode, it says "MAIN", but then I ask: If this game is in Ragna Perspective, why put this button? Could it be an instant access to gag reel once you unlocked it? Could be. But sounds a little... unnecessary.

Almost didn't see this, lol. Next time you should @ me so I get a notification.

To answer the question, yes, she's available to get in-game from I've heard. In the first release of information, she was just labeled as Preorder DLC but then in the next release of information, it was said you could get her in-game. Don't remember the means by which you get her though.

Like I said, I don't remember how she'll be unlocked or if it was said, only that you can get her in-game.

So I'm starting to think half the ppl here have never played or fought any of the female characters before with all this talk about fanservice like it's something new to the game.Heck, most of the female cast have porn like proportions or dress/make comments in that manner. Anyway, wonder if Mai's drive is kind of like Litchi's overdrive and if Mai can thrown her weapon does that mean she will also have a weaponless mode? No video makes her gameplay very hard to picture atm.

I don't really think she has a weaponless mode.

I agree. Mai's outfit is fanservicey but we shouldn't forget that Calamity Trigger had this in, and Continuum Shift added this design.

No mention has been made of a weaponless mode in her announcement and Mai has shown the ability to cause Outseal to materialize in her hand in the Variable Heart manga, so my guess is that Mai will simply be able to summon her spear back into her hand after she has thrown it.

I think it's just sorta hit some kind of critical mass at the moment, seeing how it's like the fourth fanservice-ey female character in a row. Doesn't bother me personally, though I do think that making fanservice a main element of the design is the cheapest trick in the book.

That aside, gameplay-wise Mai sounds like an interesting character, really want to see her in action.

Lol Blazblue always had a ridiculous amount of anime troupe fanservice [both for males and females] with some moments more subtle then others. Mai even in that outfit fits just fine.

Mai's design does remind me of Noel for some reason. The hair antennae remind me of Nu/Lambda. The spear makes me think of Litchi since they both use long thrusting weapons that you can throw for some reason. I'm not really into spear characters though since I found Ken boring in Persona. I like that she's a flashy from what I've seen.

Right now I'm thinking of Izanami and Lambda for mains in this game. They both have strengths in the pressure game, which I like.

I thought the same thing when I first saw Mai's new outfit. It's because both it and Noel's new outfit have a white top that leaves their back, shoulders and midriff uncovered. Also, Mai's zipper resembles Noel's tie in shape. This lends credence to the theory that Kokonoe gave Mai her new outfit. In Variable Heart Mai has yet to obtain it, but her school uniform has been damaged and she's planning to visit Kokonoe, so I'm guessing that she'll be getting it from her.

PS: I think it makes sense for Mai to throw her weapon. It's perfectly normal to use a spear that way, unless it's a very long spear like a sarissa.

It is not because this game contains some other mediocre characters that they have to do it for the newcomers as well.

They created very good ones (Rachel, Tsubaki, Kokonoe...) so they don't have to feed us with this.

That's cool. Brings Mai closer to the story. I don't know much about her though. I really should check out the Blazblue spin-off material sometime.

I suppose I'm just used to how Ken used his spear. Tossing the spear just makes me think of someone throwing a knife but they only have one knife.

My guess is that Variable Heart will serve to tie Mai to the overall story. If not, then the events of Central Fiction will. After all, the fact Mai is a close friend of Noel gives her a stake in what's going on and a reason to get involved. The Remix Heart Gaiden section in CPE does a good job of introducing Mai and her friend Kajun, but the manga itself has been scanlated into English by Emma, so you read that as well. It's only 4 volumes so it's a quick read.

By the way, if you can make your knife magically reappear in your hand then it might make sense to throw it.

Mai's design is absolutely hideous. It reeks of fanservice.

I mean, Mai's outfit isn't THAT bad. In a game where Makoto and Mu-12 exist, it could have gone much worse. At least she's not tripping everywhere causing a button to pop off or something. Or taking off her jacket in the middle of a fight.

Well, we don't know about that yet. We haven't seen her battle intro. A lot of the female characters in game enter the battle with pre-battle attire.

Now that it has been mentioned, a fairly large portion of the female cast has an intro where they take off their clothing to reveal their "battle form". Others have them transformed.

Spoiler

Noel: Has an intro (in her NOL officer sprite) where she tosses her coat over to the side.
Makoto: Has 2. In CS she tossed her NOL uniform high into the air. In CP, it was her orange jacket.
Tsubaki: Has one in CS where she takes off her Squad 0 mask off, before evaporating the cloak in light.
Izayoi: Has one where "base" Tsubaki is engulfed in light, before revealing the Izayoi-form.
Litchi: Has one where she goes from her casual, doctor attire to battle ready.
Platinum: Has one where she shines her Nox before going like a magical girl to reveal her battle form.
Nine: Sets her Phantom cloak on flame, before readying for combat.
Izanami: Sheds her Imperator clothes and puts them within a dark portal.
All of the Murakumo units (Nu-13/Lambda-11 and Mu-12) have an intro where they start in their pre-battle forms before donning their armor for combat.

About the only ones that don't have anything like that are Rachel, Taokaka, Kokonoe, Celica and Bullet (although the last one has a victory pose where she takes off her uniform instead). So that's 12 ladies that have some form of "wardrobe change" as an intro versus 5 that do not (excluding Es and Mai for the time being).

Do we have a release date for the Japan console version? Throw the US release date too while we're at it if it's available. I'll probably just get the JP digital version as usual if the release date gap is longer than 3 months.

Japan is on October 6.

I suspect that Mai will have a jacket she takes off before she fights. This drawing by Sumeragi shows her holding a long, red jacket behind her back with her right hand.

She has barely any tissue on the top....

Hopefully she is stylish when she fights.

She also has one with her old clothes. IIRC she uses it versus Izanami.
