shtkn Report post Posted February 22, 2010 This topic gets made like every 2 weeks, so I'm making it now save everyone the trouble. GENERAL ADVICE FOR PICKING A MAIN: 1. watch videos of good players using a character, see if the general gameplan they use is what you want to do. 2. look up combos for the character, and try them out in training mode. 3. play with the character yourself, see if you like using him/her/it. bjholmes2 Report post Posted February 22, 2010 If you: like grapple characters, such as Zangief or Daimon, want to catch the opponent off guard and inflict 50% plus damage, don't care about using a low tier character, don't mind the negative feedback you'll get occasionally, want to plow through noobies,and/or want to use tech traps, tick throws, and gadget finger shenanigans to drive your opponent insane, then Iron Tager is the character for you. Lasci Report post Posted February 22, 2010 Please don't ask other people in this forum to pick a main for you. We can't read your mind. Go find out yourself. You are your own best judge. I realize that to an expert at the game, the question can become nagging and annoying. However, some people truly have issues picking a main and therefore need a bump in the right direction. As long as the person gives enough information to warrant another's ability to give an opinion on their situation, I don't think there's anything wrong with this topic. shtkn Report post Posted February 23, 2010 Quite frankly, any advice we give doesn't mean anything to hands-on experience when it comes to picking a character to use. We COULD tell you what character you should play based on your personality/playstyle, but that would like picking your clothes for you... what matters is YOU need to figure out what you want and what you are comfortable with. Obsessed Report post Posted February 23, 2010 Don't let tiers effect your decision. Also you don't have to settle for one character. Just play whoever you like, like Kaqn does.

What he said. The only bumps in the right direction a person needs are the definitions of a character's playstyles, and vids on what their playstyles look like. Or hey, you might like Jin because he's a gorgeous blonde type even though we tell you to pick Ragna to begin. Or you might like Carl because of clap loop, even though he's goddamn hard to learn. Do we know your likes and dislikes? Your personal history? Your traumas and life experiences? No. We don't. Therefore, any advice we might give you may well be nothing at all, because again, you are the one that ultimately chooses who you want to use.

If you want a character with - With a good Drive - Good anti-air options - Amazing zoning capabilities, and the ability to play rushdown - Don't mind low hp - The ability to change the properties of some of your specials (by pressing C after D) - A nice ass - Very good normals Pick

Obsessed Report post Posted February 23, 2010 And should we describe CS chars or CT ones? Well my guess is that most of the newbies are playing the console version. So I would stick with CT characters for now.
Nodelic2 Report post Posted February 23, 2010 Second Edit: removing my comment about Nu. Edit: I'm going to try to do Noel: If you: -Want a cute character -Enjoy long combos with exceptional damage -Like a small hit box but don't want to control more than one character at a time -Want a fast character who can still deal fair amounts of damage. -Enjoy a relatively (everything's relative remember) easy drive to learn -Enjoy practicing specific and sometimes tricky timing in their combo Pick
farranpoison Report post Posted February 23, 2010 I should have been Nu. I hate playing as AND against tager. Oh, and before it gets out of hand, posters in this thread should only either describe a character (mostly seriously), or edit someone's list. Commenting on who should main who should be kept to a minimum here, if at all. I don't think we want people asking/discussing who they should main here, since this thread is trying to prevent that. smooshman Report post Posted February 23, 2010 adding if you love DP's and you can deal with few mix-up options (espesicially overheads) adding even more (to my own:vbang:) using projectiles without feeling: useless at melee range, and average health, and not feel like a zoning freak then is your man EDIT: holy crap I just realized this is a new forum... yeah I'm that slow:vbang:
