Dead or Alive 5

There really is no point to what they're trying to do, since this series already has a set image as intended by the developers.

The competitive community is trying to make people see that there's more to the game than just sex appeal, but banning costumes is not the way. That's just silly.

Unless those costumes mess up the characters' hitboxes/hurtboxes, there's nothing wrong with them, and no one should care.

Except banning costumes will have a postitive effect. At least members of the community are trying to make a change, which can't be said for others.
The main DOA games have only been suffering this sexualised curse since DOA4. DOA2 and 3 weren't anywhere near as sexualised - in fact, 3 actually seemed like it wanted to be seen as a more mature game. Team Ninja constantly tries to back up the community and make DOA be taken seriously, but while it's loading out tons of hugely inappropriate costumes, I honestly don't blame people for not wanting to play the game.
As it stands right now, people only see it as a porn simulator, and not the great game that lies underneath.

I always wondered why people think that sexy = bad

Honestly, that is one of the most stupid and retarded things that i heard

Well, it's mostly American fans pushing for this. I dunno how it is in Mexico or whatever, but in the US, censorship is very rampant, especially with the female body, where society labels anyone who enjoys content of sexy women as pathetic, creepy, and less-than-an-adult. So, sexy gets seen as bad in general, as enjoying sexy stuff as seen as disgusting and shameful, and demeaning towards women by viewing them as a sex object.

It's still beyond me how some people would rather have their character wear next to nothing than have the game finally get the recognition it deserves.
God I hate the FGC sometimes.

Nah, but fighting naked and in high-heels = utterly stupid to random viewers and potentially interested players looking for a fighting game they can enjoy and show their friends.

Also, there is sexy and then there is objectifying and degrading (i haven't seen those costumes, so i'm just saying in general).

And even if you say they aren't... If i didn't know what to expect by DoA the swaying breasts at the win screen after my first match wouldn't have implied that this is a game that can be taken serious or that you would want your co-workers and family to know about.

But a lot of males seem to feel victimized by this (judging by eventhubs.. why do i still read there anyway O_o).

What's everyones problem with soft-banning some stupid costumes to try and get some more credibility for the DoA-community and DoA as a fighting game? I don't get it.

Must agree with VermillionBird here.

It already does wtf?? In MK9 you can put tournament mode SPECIFICALLY so there is no fatality option and the games move faster. Hell the ability to take out blood has been around as long as deception if I recall. This isn't even an argument

I don't have a problem with it. I just don't get what it does for the community and the game itself. Does it really change anything? Does it?

Ok, is the gore ban from all tournaments? And the fatalities are disable for the same reason they want to ban the sexy costumes in DOA, or just for the game to move faster?

I mean it's there but people don't use it anyways. So yea if I am understanding you I agree with you, that making the ban won't really change anything. People can always not buy the costumes

I feel like the point is being missed here. I'm pretty sure MK has become popular BECAUSE of the gore. DOA isn't popular BECAUSE OF THE HALF NAKED WOMEN.
One's good in the eyes of the FGC, one's bad.

It really irks me how everyone has been saying since 06 that DOA is a porn simulator and they only focus on the breasts. Heaven forbid that the players of the game actually want to shed that status.

To be fair, DOA IS popular because of the half naked women. It's pretty commonplace to hear people who don't like fighters say that they do like DOA for such a reason, and most people who like fighting games that play DOA can just bypass the fanservice.

Except no one does. Time and time again, people have just laughed at DOA, calling it over-sexualised and not even bothering to invest any time in it.
I'm excited for this ban and I pray to God that it actually makes people see past this status that the company has forced on it for the last nine years.

The one thing I wanna know is if anyone even picks these outfits in tournaments. If nobody picks these outfits anyway, what's the point of banning them now?

I don't think anyone picked them before because they were DLC and rarely anyone bought them.
However, now that LR gives the player these costumes, I can't imagine that they will be taking any chances.

I think you need to take off your tumblr SJW tinfoil hat. Acting like Team Ninja started this evil conspiracy to sex up the series in DOA4 is ridiculous. You're ignoring that Xtreme already firmly established DOA's T&A eye candy as representative of the series, and that TN originally planned for 5 to be a lot more modest until the majority of their fanbase expressed disapproval. If you find the myriad "sexy" costumes and poses of the series repugnant, you are in the minority of players. It's only because of the boobs that DOA even survived to get a sequel and was able to overcome its initial image as just another 1990s Virtua Fighter clone, anyway.

As was explained in the Reaxxion article, DOA is a silly, campy, and unrealistic series and that's a big part of the appeal. Expecting DOA to be "taken seriously" by the public as a professional sport, or for your parents to act proud of your tournament victories, is autistic manchild behavior of the highest order. You should play fighting games because they're fun and you personally enjoy them, not to score brownie points in the Cultural Recognition Olympics.

It's fine if you don't like certain content in media (not just games), but whining for it to be changed just because it hurt your feelings or made you uncomfortable is stupid and reeks of entitled SJWism. There are other options out there, and if sexualization in 3D fighters bothers you that much, the Virtua Fighter scene is always wanting for more players.

As part of the people, are you speaking on my behalf? No, so stop it. Boobs aren't what makes a game sexist. None of the female characters are neither oppressed, abused or victimized by any male characters in anyway. In fact, I'm fairly certain most of the female characters are capable of punting most of the men to the moon if they truly wanted too. Sexual appeal and sexism are two different things and people need to start learning to discern the two or...

EDIT: I should also mentioned I've played 2 and 5 and I both games to be quite fun to play with a certain campy appeal to them.

Especially when you consider that an unassuming cutesy girl like Hitomi is the canonical winner of the DOA5 tournament, and it's suggested she's a better fighter than the entire male cast (except for maybe Ryu and Raidou) in the storyline. I could go on.

Except you just jumped into idiotic conclusions. I don't find the game sexist, I just don't like the sex appeal.
It's been stated before that the Xtreme series was for sexualisation, not the main games itself.

Words being put in my mouth. I asked for its sexuality to be toned down. I think the minority of players is beginning to be the majority seeing as how this ban has effectively been instated with only the objection coming from those who enjoy watching a porn simulator.

What.
Nice delusion, m8. I remember when I mentioned that one.

I'm more concerned about going to a tournament and feeling uncomfortable because of some creepy guy not respecting my personal space more than I am of digital breasts; the same people who can casually bring up rape as a humorous topic of discussion on twitch channels. *I* could go on, but I digress; I hate tumblr and I don't feel like tumblring this shit up.

Stop. Step back, and ask yourself if out of all the people in this thread, *I'M* the one you want to have this discussion with. I'm giving you an out because you will lose and look like an ass. I have never once at any point, on any thread went "LOLOLOL LOOK AT ME IM A GAMER GIRL", but I will use this card this once to make a point.

Then go play Virtua Fighter. Almost no sexual appeal to speak of, and I personally find it to be a better game. No, I don't want to hear your dumb rationalizations for why you're going to stick with a fighting game you obviously feel yourself to be at odds with.

I think the minority of players is beginning to be the majority

Holy shit, can you actually read or not? I never once confused sex appeal and sexism. Putting words into my mouth isn't getting anywhere and creating a pointless debate.
I feel at odds with the sexualisation of characters. I understand that for characters like Christie and Tina, that is part of their character and who they are, I won't deny that.
I will deny costumes like Ayane's C34, which is absurd.

Yes, because this soft-ban was instated by the minority  :arg:

Then play a different game instead of forcing your tastes onto this one. Don't know what else to tell you, "m8." You definitely seem like a white knight at this point, though it isn't helping you with the female user on this thread right now.

Well, it was. A small minority desperate for outside approval, who takes the game too seriously.
