Hokuto No Ken: Read Before Making a New Thread!

Recommended Posts

There is a VIDEO POSTING THREAD for... you guessed it posting vids. Whether it be combos vids or match vids that is where they should be posted.

UPDATES ON GLITCHES THAT AFFECT THE MAJORITY OF THE CAST (if its a glitch that just affects one person then post it in that characters thread).

LINK

Each character will have their own thread so don't make doubles. If you have a question about a certain character then ask on their specific thread.

If you have questions about how the game works and about the engine then What's all the game system and basics? is the place to post.

If you have any questions or concerns about anything else then PM me and I'll get back to you when i can. In the mean time any simple questions i will post here.

Inside Information

The Hokuto no Ken that we all know and love is actaully a sequel to a manga that Tetsou Hara made called Hokuto No Ken. Its a story of a teenager by the name of Kasumi Kenshiro, the successor of the "Hokuto Shinken", a deadly martial arts style which kills or cripples opponents internally by striking pressure points. Kenshiro's main adversaries in this incantation of the story were a rival martial arts school known as the Taizanji Kenpo, which secretly controlled the Japanese government and were responsible for the death of Kenshiro's girlfriend, Yuki. Hokuto no Ken was the most popular title in that issue according to the reader survey and Tetsuo Hara was commissioned to do a sequel. The second pilot, simply titled Hokuto no Ken II, was published in the June 1983 edition of Fresh Jump. Both pilots were reprinted in the second tankobon of Tetsuo Hara's short lived motocross manga series, Tetsuo no Don Quixote

Plot

The first story arc of the series focused on Kenshiro's search for his missing finance, Yuria, who has been kidnapped by his former friend, Shin, a master of Nanto Seiken (Fist of the Southern Cross) and the man responsible for the seven scars of Kenshiro's chest. In the introductory chapter, he meets Bat, a young thief who becomes his traveling companion, and Lin, an orphaned girl (who is annoying and stupid) who regains her ability to speak (unfortunately) thanks to Kenshiro's healing skills. As Kenshiro continues his journey, he learns that Shin has formed a ruthless organization under the name of King. Kenshiro infiltrates Shin's city of Southern Cross as he defeats each of Shin's men (all named after playing cards) before confronting Shin. He defeats Shin at the end, only to learn that Yuria is gone, apparently having committed suicide during her captivity.

Kenshiro continues to wander the wasteland with Bat and eventually is reunited with Lin, the girl he saves at the beginning. He continues his fight against injustice, as less prominent villains such as the Golan Army, Jackal and his gang, and the Fang Tribe are introduced along with the ally Rei and Mamia. Eventually, we are introduced to the existence of Kenshiro's other brothers, Jagi, Toki and Raoh, all aspiring Hokuto Shinken successors, and the Nanto Rokuseiken (Six Holy Fists of the South Dipper), the six strongest Nanto Seiken, whom the already deceased Shin was part of. Raoh, the oldest of Kenshiro's brothers, has become a conqueror under the name of Ken'O (Fist Lord) and serves as the main antagonist for most of the series, eventually challenging Kenshiro to a one-on-one duel.

The second half of the story begins several years after the defeat of Raoh with Bat and Lin, now young adults, forming the Hokuto Army in Kenshiro's absence against the oppressive regime Gento Kou Ken (Imperial Fist of the Original Dipper). Kenshiro comes back to aid his former sidekicks in their battle against the Gento fighters. Lin learns of her true heritage as the twin sister of the Gento Empress, only to be taken captive to the land of Shura. Kenshiro travels to Shura, learns of the origins of Hokuto Shinken, as well as the existence of another Hokuto fighting style known as Hokuto Ryuken (Lapis Lazuli Fist of the Big Dipper). Kenshiro eventually faces off against Hokuto Ryuken masters Hyou (Kenshiro's own natural brother) and Kaioh (Raoh's long-lost brother) to save Lin.

In the manga's final chapters, Kenshiro meets Raoh's young son, Ryu, and trains him to become the next Hokuto Shinken successor. The final story arc of the series was essentially a love triangle between Kenshiro, Lin and Bat. Kenshiro loses his memory during a thunderstorm, as well as his knowledge of Hokuto Shinken (however Ken still retain his natural fighting instinct), a blind villain named Bolge comes looking for Kenshiro and Bat takes his place. Kenshiro regains his memory and goes off to rescue Bat from Bolge.

All taken from wiki and adjusted to make a little more sense (at least i think so)

Well, thats the basic plot. If you want to know more just ask and i will explain in detail.

I guess I'll ask here. I've always been wondering.. What are the differences between the anime and the manga? Was the anime very close to the manga? Was the anime finished(meaning it covered the whole manga)? I never read the hokuto no ken manga and I can't remember shit of what happened in the anime (As I was like 4 or 5 when I watched HnK). I am thinknig of actually watching the whole series now, but I was just wondering that. Thanks~

Generally the anime and manga are the same, minus color differences(anime raoh having darker skin/black hair) and the manga having a tad more violence against women and children. The only major change is the first 21 episodes of the animated series. They re-arranged the sequence of events, added some filler, and delayed the Shin fight. In the manga Ken actually fights shin at the end of volume 1, but in the anime they delay the fight and run the stuff after the Shin fight in the manga to make it look like Shin runs a major army. Other than that, everything is pretty much the same.

"Kenshiro loses his memory during a thunderstorm, as well as his knowledge of Hokuto Shinken (however Ken still retain his natural fighting instinct" wait wtf? how do hell do you lose your memory during a thunderstorm? did he get zapped by lightning several times? i thought that was bizarre sounding when i read that. can anyone provide more details on that?

Lightning struck a tree branch, which fell on Ken's head. ... perhaps.

didn't it say somewhere that the movie wasn't canon? and the movie didn't even have toki............o well ye his head withstood a falling building like it was butter lol that would be quite convenient if a lightning bolt manage to smack him at that exact point......their half assed way of making a new character without killing him off and pissing the fans off........... they could have zoomed forward ten years to make a new series on Ryu and his trials and tribulations to learn shoryuken..........but that's another story............

wait, which movie so far the only movie with toki was that ova thing (not really a movie but felt like one) and all they did was mention toki. oh wait, roah giaden had a little toki so i guess you mean the OOOOLLD one where the building falls on kens head and he walks through it like nothing happened. great movie, i need to watch it again. as far as ken loosing memory, i can not recall that....when did this happen?

So what's the details on the cause of the amnesiac Kenshiro MM?

It is rather a spoilish thing, view at your own will(Drag on)

When Kenshiro decided to leave Bart and Lin be(Even when their relation is broken), he saw an image of Yuria crying on the rainy sky. Just then, his seven marks shone bright light, obviously triggered some sort of memory lapsing acupuncture. Yea, I know it is cheesy, but when you see acupuncture as freaky as "Hit-you-to-sleep-then-you-will-love-the-first-man-you-see-next.", it is far from bizarre...

If anything, the animation tends to be the lite version, which kind of reduces most unnecessary deaths found in the manga. For example the brothers who Jagi tortured.

lol at hit in sleep part i thought that was funny as hell. i guess they needed a way to make lin fall in love with bat since she was obsessed with ken

Thanks FIA for the answer hmm? those scars of his can shine like sagat? lol gee shin's pokes have such a delayed reaction time........ wow so if that acupuncture was done to some guy it can force him to become gay.....I didn't know acupuncture can be that powerful..........
