[P4A] News & Gameplay Discussion

Recommended Posts

It seems that no matter what type of game, be it mmo, fps, or fighting--online communities for every single one are known to be 'hostile' or harsh to some extent

While a lot of it is imagined, still, that cloud of "Well that community sucks I hear" is virtually ubiquitous, ESPECIALLY with fighting game communities. I'm scared to discuss BB in some places because people get so worked up about how much they hate the community for it...dayum shame.

That's kind of funny. I've always assumed the BB community was fairly well considered, since I've never heard much distaste for it compared to the Street Fighter and Marvel (especially Marvel) community.

Well talking from experience, this community is nowhere near as bad as Shoryuken or the typical MobA site. Though I have followed the BB competitive scene for years, I recently started playing it about 6 months ago because I was finally able to afford as PS3, so as a result, I began looking for fighting game sites similar to Team Liquid and regularly visited Jourdal's stream and I was treated pretty well.

As long as I showed real interest in getting better, admit that I am a noob like those guys were once before, and asked well thought out questions, I did not get flamed. And having played Brood War on a competitive level at one point (not Korean level), I know what it feels like when you have newcomers who think they know it all, develop these god awful strategies and brag about it, and constantly talk about how good their are when in reality, they are crap.

The tension seems to stem from a balancing act of new players who like to think they're better then everyone and either ad hominem or

ragequit

their way out of their problems and shortcomings--and a piece of the older crowd who despite their experience, are just condescending assholes on a power trip who treat everyone who they don't directly know as shit and as if they are incapable of contributing at all

Kind of like high school all over again, cliques and all that jazz

Then there's the decent people who help and don't have a stick up their ass when someone says something they don't like--They're the troopers

I wonder what the math and a pie chart of that would look like?

Someone should be a cool guy and make one.......

The BB community isn't so much hated as it is ignored outright.

I thought some of the mods here just hate the BB board? And those from there aren't the most nicest people either, but I guess they are still better than the Moba scenes. I've been in 3, and those are all horrible.

I'm still glad that my friend is just godlike when it comes to fighting games. You ought to get better when all the stuff you keep learning just got broken in few matches. I thought I'm just bad, until I come out and play against other people just to realize how good he is.

I'd prefer to play offline. Online is always a horrible experience for me.

I know its still too early to be talking about this, but given how the game's story ended we'll probably be getting a new version of this game eventually.

I was looking through old posts about this game before the console version was released and I saw this and a link to one of the developers talking about how they wanted P4A to have as much DLC content as Blazblue has.

So would you rather have a version up to the existing game, or new DLC characters that can be purchased, do you think we'll get more characters?

New versions come out with DLC characters (Everytime there is a DLC character there is a updated version generally adding in the new character/s data, fixing bugs or even a balance patch if need be), so I suspect something similar to the CS1 - CS2 change probably next year. The cast is quite small at the moment and Arc love expanding and adding new characters each installment of their works, I wouldn't be surprised if the same happened for P4A.

In saying that, I would adore a playable Adachi, Junpei, Yukari, Older Ken or even sneak in some P1/P2 characters like Maya.

I would thoroughly enjoy new characters

While Liz and Aki were pretty much the only reason I got into this game initially, I would be very pleased to see moar, ESPECIALLY if they pulled em' from the first and second Personas

Who wouldn't want that?

Although looking at blazblue, that's probably going to take 2 more games before we have that kind of roster

I hate waiting

Yeah, it would be nice for a few more characters, but I don't want them to feel "slapped on" like some characters from other FG series.

Creating a fitting story for a older Persona character is very hard due to their multiple endings (Won't get into spoiler stuff).

I see Adachi coming back though and a few P3 characters... can't wait for that.

Yeah, but if they want to put Adachi in, the challenge would be to differentiate him from Yu gameplay-wise, since they use the same Persona (variants of Izanagi). But, for some reason, I think they would make him a mix between Yu and Naoto, considering his weapon is a pistol.

Okay, merged the DLC/Patch thread with this one, since we're not really at a point where that requires its own discussion yet. Also cleaned up a few silly/speculative posts. If yours was one of them, sorry. Be less silly next time.

Also I wanna clarify what this board and thread are for, and help people to avoid getting infractions/deleted posts unnecessarily.

This board is for the discussion of Persona 4 Arena and its gameplay. This thread is a slight exception, in that discussing the game itself, its community, and other "meta" topics is also acceptable.

If you want to discuss P4A's story, that goes in this Zepp Museum thread. It doesn't go here.

Hopefully this clarifies things.

Considering the game did not do amazingly here, they might be better off with a disc release.

Honestly, I doubt anything outside of Japan is going to have any affect on what they decide to do. Atlus Japan and Arcsys will do whatever they think will work best for Japan. The rest of us are an afterthought.

Can I take this moment to say thay Chie is THE most aggravating character in this game to fight against?

Because she is seriously stupidly powerful.

I much much prefer fighting Chie's to fighting Mitsuru's.

Well Agni appears to play Liz, and Chie can just 5A > dash all day and Liz can't do anything about it. Everything but coffin super will get punished on reaction. Then there's Chie's knockdown okizeme on top of Liz having the lowest health of the game. It's pretty close to Mitsuru's bullshit.

Meh, I too play Liz and Chie's haven't been too bad, it's Yosuke's that really grind my gears personally

That distance closing makes Liz very sad--God damn naruto wannabe and his goofy headphones

They're nice headphones though

...Who would be a good character to start off with for someone who's still trying to adjust to this game? I've been bouncing around a good number of characters but somehow they haven't been working out for me. I need some advice on this.

Play Mitsuru or Chie.

Both are relatively easy and have very stable gameplans.

Mitsuru has solid easy combos that don't require a lot of adjustment to change from hit to hit. She has some of the easiest execution in the game for mid range stuff.
