[Xrd] News & (Theoretical) Gameplay Discussion

subtitles detract from any viewing experience unless specifically intended to create the atmosphere of being foreign, sorry. dubs are just easier to access. argue with it all you want, having to read and look at video at the same time just dont work that well, and it removes a layer from the experience a lot of the time.

[insert Tony Stark eye-rolling gif here.]

If it's honestly that taxing for you to watch something and read small amounts of text at the same time, please don't ever get behind the wheel of a car.

also dubbing isnt that expensive if you dont use union vas (aka someone actually in a union does the job under a different name).

The cost difference between a VA signed under a union contract and a freelance contract usually isn't that significant, at least not when it concerns the percentage of a project's total budget.  Voice acting is expensive either way, especially when you've got a large cast (like in a fighting game) recording thousands of lines of dialogue (like in a fighting game with a fully-voiced story mode).

Even once the actors are all paid, you've got boatloads of additional costs on top of that.  You have to pay directors, script supervisors, recording technicians, audio engineers, studio rental/maintenance fees...  Then there's the extra dough you have to shell out for programmers to actually put the recorded lines into the game, which is an entire process by itself.

Dubbing ain't cheap, man.  In a lot of cases, it can wind up being the single most expensive part of localizing a foreign-language game for the domestic market.

His DoT also isn't fullscreen anymore. I dunno how much it hurts (especially considering some of his other stuff).

All things considered, I think this is a good enough trade off. #R distance, AC-like properties. Wallstick and all that stuff. Going full screen was pretty silly. andawesome

i remember reading some ishiwatari/pachi snippet way back when in this thread that mentioned relaxed execution requirements in xrd? to paraphrase, it involved 'the old ways vs. the new ways.' or something to that effect.

is this a thing (is the source available)? stuff gets lost real fuckin fast in this thread so i might not be remembering correctly. they weren't very specific so i interpreted said statement as 'BB-style input buffer.' can anyone who's actually played xrd confirm/deny?

The buffer times was increased a little bit.

Butt I still sometimes miss the timing when VVing Ky's meaty 6HS on wake up or doing TR on wake up.

But I can feel the longer buffer time when doing DI after 6P or doing TR after Kudakero.

So I don't feel like the input buffer changed in that much.

Unlike KOF XIII where the buffer time has been increased to the point it fucks up you execution.

I'm looking forward to Xrd story mode, and how much effort they've put into that. For me, it becomes far more enjoyable when I know the characters, their personalities, reasons, relations with other characters, what makes them tick. It's why I like P4A immensly (having played P3 & P4) and BB (for it's fleshed out story and characters).

As someone who started GG with +R a few months back, I was like "why are all these weirdos fighting" lol. The story mode wasn't... all that great ^^'

Really looking forward to picking this game up! Can't wait to feast my eyes on it, it'll be amazing :yaaay:

Yeah, they didin't focus so much on the story in earlier games and a lot of story material isn't in the games at all. IMO, it has much more potential than BB and a more interesting universe.

Xrd feels like a side story or a filler that occur after overture.

Overture had a really good story.

Too bad it wasn't a fighting game.

I like were everything went, and I wonder where the assassins will go story-wise in this game

Actually the one with an interesting story in Xrd is Chipp only.

Since That Man is out of the picture. And Ramlathal looks nothing like Aria.

Then Sol could end the whole thing in one minute but he is just fucking lazy.

So, is there an official name for the new roman cancels? Is there something unique they're called on the website? I don't mind calling them YRC or PRC but something tells me it's something strange like Overture's 'Modern Roman Cancels' or whatever.
