Looking at the combo, it seems I left out a couple crucial details to making the combo work. The c.S needs to be Jump Install'd and you need to hj.S after greed sever. I'll revise it immediately.

Ah yeah, that'd make sense, haha. Works on May now! 210, no oki.

For this: Ground Throw > RC > c.S > 2HS > JC > j.S > JC > j.S > j.H > VT

For that combo you can throw in a Greed Server after the RC. Tacks on like 6 extra damage or something minuscule but is also incredibly easy to combo into and from.

Also Ky can rack up some massive damage from RC'd HVT, since if you wait for the black screen to go away (which is mandatory anyway I think on everyone except maybe Pot), the RC proration goes away.

So HVP RC cS 2H jS djS jH jHVP hurts. (Also can do this from (6H) 3H 214K midscreen for a bonus 75 damage or so).

Disclaimer: I'm really bad with execution and it takes me a long while to get simpler stuff. lol

Been messing around with the last combo in the mid-screen overhead section, which is this: GS > c.S > JC > j.S > HSVT > RC > land> Dash HSVT > c.S > 2HS > HSVT

I've a hard time getting the first c.S, so I added a 5K before it, and it links easier, though I'm sure the damage scaling is bad (123 v Potemkin). It's a lot easier on heavy characters though. Also, I don't see how to do this mid-screen. Is there a video for it?

Mid screen, I was liking challenge mode combo 24: GS, c.S, 2HS, JC, j.S, JC, j.S, j.HS, HSVT.
Hard on Sol, and heavy characters so I added the same 5K as before and dropped the 2HS. On Sol, I find the second JC attacks cause the HSVT to miss, but doing GS, 5K, c.S, JC, j.S, j.HS, HSVT does negligibly less damage. 109 dmg vs 102 dmg.

Again, my execution isn't great but this is what I'm seeing in training mode right now. Are there better, more universal GS combos I should be spending time on instead? I have a lot of figuring outvote do, especially since my main isn't in this game in the first place. T_T

For the first combo, try this instead :

GS > c.S > 2HS (1hit) > j.HS > j.VT > RC > dash VT > 5C > 2HS (2hits) > VT

Works on potem midscreen. Cannot be done on lighter characters. Deals 144 damage

But, if you really wanna waste 50 meter, better go for j.C j.C j.HS > Ride the lightning. It deals the same damage and is MUCH easier to do.

Also, don't forget to put the dummy on crouch when trying GS combos. It gives you more time to connect c.S after, since GS will hit at the lesser height

Great point on setting the dummy to crouch. Most likely going to hit them with GS while they're blocking low. Everything now works well when opponents are crouching. Thanks a lot!

Not sure about using meter for so little extra damage. Personally, would rather save the meter for YRC and FD stuff. None meter version of those combos are close enough in damage. Now, if we can find something that'll rip off half of someones life bar, that's a different story. lol

For the low combos listed above, I like the position they leave you in, but don't like the lack of a strong damaging option. That's my next thing to look in to.

For this combo what do you mean about Jump Install between c.S and f.S?  Ive read some things on how to jump install, though I am not entirely sure how to do this still.

For this combo what do you mean about Jump Install between c.S and f.S?  Ive read some things on how to jump install, though I am not entirely sure how to do this still.

Actually for this combo there's no Jump install. I revised it in the combo section. I transcribed a lot of these combos from  before the games hit console, so I had assumed there was a JI; I'm going to be combing through these combos to makes sure they're accurate. I revised this one in the combo section.

As for how to actually Jump install, you want to take a move that is jump cancellable like Ky's c.S and jump cancel it, then you want to cancel the startup of the jump with another move like 2HS(The jump shouldn't come out at all), and then you can super jump but still have your air options such as double jump. So a JI'd combo would look like:  Greed Sever > c.S > 8 > 2HS > High jump > j.S > j.P > j.S > JC > j.S > j.HS > VT

Not going to lie, that JI looks confusing and kinda difficult to pull off.  Is it one of those things that are look hard but is kinda easy after enough practice?

go play the mission mode, it teaches you jump install, and it's near the end of the non-character missions iirc

Can you guys give me some tips on the timing between the two HSVTs in this?  I am working on it with Sol as the dummy and I will either not have the command happen or he'll be too low when I hit him and he'll recover too early.

Hello,

I am new to Guilty Gear and would like to play Ky.

Out of the combo's on this page which are his kind of bread and butter combo's that I should learn first?

I guess I'm not necessarily looking for his best combos, but those that are generally useful and are not character/situation specific.

Any beginner friendly tips for playing Ky are appreciated as well.

Thanks!

Hi discoprophet, I'd recommend trying to do the Challenge mode with Ky first, just to kinda get the fundamentals down. I'd also recommend doing combos that ends or has 236D in them, since the grinder is a great tool for Ky. If you have a grinder near your opponent, you can use 236H for a possibly the best oki option for Ky and when you use it, hit high or hit low is all I can say after that and when you do that try to lead to another knockdown and hopefully another grinder. If the grinder is not near your opponent, however, then you can still use it to keep your opponent away with either of the ground stun edges, 236S if you want a long range projectile that's very has but lasts shortly or 236H if you want to keep your opponent away from you for a bit as this is shorter, but lasts a lot longer. This anti-air combo, [AA] 6P > c.S > 2HS > HSVT, is a particularly useful one to learn as Ky's 6P is an amazing anti-air and has great priority afaik. This combo, 5K > c.S > 6P > 5HS > 236K > GS > c.S > 2H > j.S > JC > j.S > j.HS > HSVT, is good if you want damage and it costs 50 meter, but personally a combo that summons a grinder is better in the long run imo so this combo, 5K > c.S > 6P > 5HS > 236K > RC > GS > c.S > 236D, is the better use of the 50 meter and it still does pretty good damage. For throw combos, personally I think these are the best ones, Throw > RC > GS > 2HS > HSVT > 2HS > HSVT > c.S > 236D, another one, Throw > RC > GS > 2HS > GS > HSVT > 2HS > HSVT > c.S > 236D, and finally an air combo one, Air Throw > RC > land > c.S > 2HS > GS > HSVT > 2HS > HSVT > c.S > 236D, whichever one you feel more comfortable with, however these can be only done in the corner. I wouldn't recommend doing the 5D combos or the Instant-Kill combos, because those rarely lands and if you screw the Instant-Kill combo then you have no use of meter for the rest of the round. I also don't like using Overdrives, supers, in Guilty Gear Xrd, unless it's used to end the round and you know you can finish off your opponent with it. The reason why I say this is because Roman Cancels are sooo useful in this game, Yellow Roman Cancels can be used to make unsafe moves safe, Regular (Red) Roman Cancels can make combos that are normally impossible possible, Purple Roman Cancel can make a move safer as well, but Yellow ones are better than Purple ones. So Overdrives in this game don't really serve a great purpose other than to finish off your opponent, but you might want to learn combos that leads to these Overdrives after you learn the essential ones, because they definitely can help achieve victory in some scenarios. Don't take all my words for all of these, since I'm kinda new myself, so it would be greatly appreciated if someone more experienced can fix or add onto my post.

Btw welcome to Guilty Gear, hope you love the game as much as I do. It's a hard game at first, but with enough time added onto it, it'll feel like second nature to you and Ky isn't a hard character to learn, he just needs some practice like everyone does. Hope you stay, also it always helps to find a local community around your area that plays this game on a daily or weekly basis as they can give you tips on how to improve your neutral game or know which combo is best for which scenario.

Hey all. I'm having a bit of trouble landing anything that includes this:

GS > c.s >  2HS > HSVT > 2HS > HSVT > c.S > 236D

Especially against smaller chars like may/ram

are there any dash cancels invovled or anything? And is there a timing to doing  2HS > HSVT > 2HS > HSVT?

The second 2HS. do I just press it asap after the first HSVT? cause sometimes they are too low after the 2nd 2HS for me to HSVT a second time. but even if I get it. I am having problems timing cs. > 236D.

is there a shorter version that I can go into c.s > 236D easily?

Currently after GS in corner I always simply just GS > C.S > 2HS > J.S > JC > J.S > J.HS > HSVT

but this isnt ver y good for oki but i'm just not confident in pulling off the double HSVT loop into C.S > 236D. is there anythign easier after a GS that I can get into c.s > 236D easier?

that combo works fine, you just do 5hs>ciel on lightweights instead

bedman gs>c.s>2hs>gs>hsvt>5hs/2hs>ciel

pot gs>c.s>2hs>gs>2hs(1)>hsvt>5hs>ciel

Hey guys is there a corner combo that starts with 6HS that works on everyone and leads into split ciel oki?

Pretty sure you can do

6HS < c.S < 6K < 236D < 2D/236K.
