[CSE] Noel Vermillion Critique And Self-Improvement Thread
Mizzet replied to HexaNoid's topic in Archive
Bummer, I really should have gone down to Shadowloo but I was busy with a project. I'm kind of taking a break from BB because my ISP hates netplay and I'm not at liberty to change it where I'm staying. Played a couple of folks online though, good games were had. Edit: Lmao at 1:12, Tokido trying to 5d outta there and eating a 6c. -
That's a fair point, I'm personally rather super-happy and I don't use CA as much as I should. It's saved my ass every time I've bothered to.

Has anyone considered the possibility of j.4d hop over during the opponent's recovery after corner Fenrir? Pretty common combo ender in the corner so it's a situation that crops up often. Iirc it's another situation where your opponent can only emergency tech, and this time you have all the frame advantage in the world. Direction change should stuff wakeup reversals from an opponent that doesn't expect it too, and if you do tag the guy with j.4d, drive combo into 214a + ender puts him right back in the corner again.

If it helps, go browse the PS Store by 'latest' instead of going specifically to the CS section. I found it that way, CS section wasn't updated. Don't use the store link from ingame either, might not be updated,

That's odd.. when you boot up CS and the game goes through a couple of system message tabs before the title screen, do you see one with 'checking downloadable content' or something?
-
As long as you're connected to the net, it should search for the update automatically when you boot the game up, before you get to the title screen, and download it automatically. The PSN store is for stuff like dlc characters, colours, etc.

A B C D - - although some people prefer B C D A - - these are (iirc) the two most common setups. As for getting better, someone else can probably advise you better but if you are completely new to fighting games I'd recommend first just getting comfortable moving your character around with the stick - basic motions like dashing, iad'ing, double jumps, jump cancels. I'd recommend nailing down some strong fundamentals before you start worrying about learning combos. Definitely check out Noel's challenge mode, most of the combos in it are actually rather practical and educational, and not a waste of time like previous iterations.

I've had a reasonable amount of success with the j.D d.6D d.6B d.5C 214D(whiff) ender to force an emergency tech and gain frame advanatge, at which point I usually proceed to 5a > pressure, 2b > combo, go for a throw, or jump and attempt j.4d (risky against good players). It's been working enough that people I play are starting to just not tech and eat the 214d, which is useful if I'm fighting out of a corner since now I get my ender and put them in the corner in one go. If they choose to not tech and eat the 214d, but I want to setup that situation, I'll do 236b(whiff) instead of 214d.

I'll give it this much, the second one was mildly surprising, what with the shiny white flash from the tech blinding you as well. Seems like it might be dangerous if your opponent teched forward (out of the corner) in the air though - that means you're now cornered and stuck in drive mode. Against a good player who knows how to poke you out of drive it's begging for a juicy corner combo.

I usually punish with 2d or CH 5c into 2d if I don't have as much time. Quick and easy 4k+ damage until I get her harder shenanigans down. -

What do you guys do when you hit a drive on a crouching opponent? Apart from 4d which forces your opponent to stand, I've just been substituting 214a for 236a and going 66c j.d > the usual. You still get 4k'ish because her drives hit like a truck for some reason, just wondering if people are doing anything else I haven't thought of. Kind of sad to lose her JC'able d.5c, it had so much combo potential, but her improved abare in CS2 is making up for that, it's nice being able to combo off normals like a proper character. -

I like how they increased the number of bullets you get from ground Fenrir, at least you get a decent bit of damage (almost 2k) if someone does something stupid on the other end of a screen and you want to just tag them with the bullets. It also tracks better if you use it to follow up Thor, instead of where in CS1 you would just get a short stream of bullets which would briefly clip the guy. -

FC property as before allows you to connect d.5C > 214a, saving you the need to use d.6A which has weaker damage and proration, some simple examples, FC 4D, d.6C, d.2D, d.5D, d.5C, 214a, 2b, 6c, 236a, 66c, j.D, d.6D, d.6B, d.236D [4927] Midscreen ok, haida shenanigans will push you over 5k. Same thing for j.4D, FC j.4D, d.6C, d.2D, d.5C, 214a, 2b, 6c, 236a, 66c, j.D, d.6D, d.6B, d.236d [4480] Midscreen ok. -

Seems like they went more lenient on proration from counterhits too, you can generally get a full drive combo off any counterhit, though you may need to omit the 6c 236a 66c bit as it's very finicky. CH 5C > 5d/2d ok CH 6c > 5d/2d ok CH 5b > 2d (is this new in CS2?) CH 2c > 2d All should get you 4-4.5k+ comfortably.
