    The Losing Streak Mentality

When I'm losing consistently in matches and can't seem to pull out a win, I always take the time to observe a few things. What did the opponent abuse that I was not respecting? Did I do anything that was very unsafe/punishable? What was the opponent doing that I was not correctly punishing? Was I able to stay calm? Was my execution on point? Did I use my character to the best of their abilities? I play Tager and I have had my fair share of consistent loses in Calamity Trigger and Continuum Shift. Over the time I've played these games, I've focused my gameplay on improving in these aspects. There is always room to improve, after all. When you're winning, make sure to keep the opponent's moveset in mind. If you do, you will be able to avoid DPs, grabs, counters, distortions, etc. A bad habit I used to have and sometimes still do is overdoing a win. I'm a big user of 720 but lately I've noticed how much a waste this can be. Instead of going for a big finish, just make sure that you do what it takes to win, as long as it won't cost you defeat if you screw up. It's okay to be flashy and unexpected sometimes, but don't do it so often that you'll find yourself losing. Learning to adapt quickly and adjust yourself to common situations is important. For example, if you're playing a Ragna, some of them will often jump cancel after a blocked 3C to continue pressure. If I don't punish this the first time, I keep it in mind throughout the match, so I can react accordingly next time. More importantly, it's crucial to learn to input your commands correctly. If you're dropping combos, reversals and anti-air attempts, you're going to find yourself in a lot of trouble. Practice often to ensure that when you want a move to come out, it will undoubtedly happen. That when you need that 4k fatal, you perform it flawlessly. Lastly, if you become frustrated during gameplay, there's nothing wrong with taking a break. Five minutes, even, just to clear your mind. Playing a character to their utmost potential is difficult, but there's no way you'll be able to do better than before with clouded judgement. Getting impatient with Tager and haphazardly trying to rush down, overusing DPs with Ragna, and incorrectly guessing with Hakumen's counters are just some behaviors of a frustrated player. I have been a victim to this and lost numerous matches against a great friend who plays Rachel, simply because I could not bring myself to calm down and think rationally, before he talked to me and helped me to realize my own errors. If you're able to stay calm, you'll be able to avoid making mistakes that opponents will take full advantage of and you can properly play to your own strengths to exploit their weaknesses. Ever since I took all of this and more into account, it has been a tremendous help to my gameplay and I've seen more success in CS than I did before.
  2. Oh, geez, so you know the horrible pain. The clap loop... fffffff. I swear that match up is completely broken beyond belief. Once you experience it... gah. You certainly picked the right character. You need to help me get used to Jins who rapeface. Moartagerdittos, too. Best match up in the game hands down. My commentary gets a little crazy at times so if it gets too annoying, lemme know. I usually commentate when I'm Tager since I make really stupid jokes when I'm him. I'd commentate when I'm Ragna but my Ragna sucks hard. I die too quick and I can only make jokes about how I die in two combos.

  3. You don't have to tell me, my first main was Tager, after being clap looped and zoned for my first 50 matches I picked Jin and never look back. xD A little commentary is always nice too.

  4. Haha, of course. Any time ya feel like playing, lemme know. Even for laughs, it's all good, if you couldn't tell from me being obnoxious over mic with commentary and jokes. I always kid over mic if I decide to be really obnoxious, just so ya know. xD It'll certainly be fun playing you again. I need to learn how to deal with some strategies. The life of a Tager main is a painful one.

  5. Good games man, love to get in some more matches...just not so late. :v:

  6. Figured I'd drop a hey and say good games to ya. Had a lot of fun, even though you beat my Tager a bunch of times. Your Jin is scary to fight. All I hear from your Jin is COUNTER COUNTER COUNTER. /tagerrage Should totally play again sometime. Take care, man.

  7. We'll definitely play again, just send me an invite whenever.

  8. Haha, yeah. I don't play the game too much but I have never enjoyed a fighter as much as I have BlazBlue. It's a great game to experience and get better at. Online detracts a bit but it's better than nothing. Thanks for the games, for sure. It's always nice getting experience from people who are better. I'd love to play ya again some other time. Critique is always accepted as well, as I'd like to be able to refine my Ragna to as sharp a point as possible.

  9. Your ragna seems to be as good as it can get. You know all the combos as far as I can see, you don't purple throw, and you're patient. At this point it's just learning matchups, and playing blazblue against people better than you. GGs indeed.

  10. Good games, man. Your Taokaka is a god damn rapist. Sorry if there was delay in the match for you. I had some of it myself and kinda went wtf. Same with the lag spikes, might be me. Keep that rapist Tao of yours up. I need to learn this match up, haha.

  11. Taokaka is pretty hard to play well, just so you know. In CT you'll be losing alot early on, just because her combos are hard to get in and she has relatively low health. In CT her combos aren't very hard except for taunt combos, but in CS shes 100% execution, since she has the lowest health in the game but very very damaging combos.

  12. Lolwut? Too much detail? Nah. It's nice getting informed posts, so feel free to type however much you want. I'm glad I got that cleared up since I was actually thinking learning Taokaka meant learning stupidly different bnb combos for different members of the cast. Thanks for lettin' me know.

  13. Most of her combos will work on all of the cast. For characters like carl, you have to alter the combo a little bit or do a slightly different one, but for the most part her combos are easy to learn. What seperates a good tao from a bad one isn't the combos, but the mindgames and how you get into the combos. Like, her bnb does 4k but you can only get into it off of a counterhit 5C. So, you'd have to predict when your opponent is going to attack, get the counterhit, then do the combo. Sorry if I went into too much detail, haha.

  14. While I'm at it, I'm curious since I seen a few things. Figure the best person to ask is a Tao main. Are most of Taokaka's combos character specific? I've been tempted to learn her but if I need to learn five thousand character specific combos, I'm good.

  15. For sure, we'll play each other sometime.
