do i have to play agianst HOS or not ? do i have to play against a gold character? is it only by time???????!!!!!!!! ((i left the game on vs mode unpaused ))

plz anyone .. i left my ps2 open for a million hours and i have everything but there is no gold or black charecters or new stages and i read all this forum and nothing if someone could sum it all up i will be thankfull ..
