    [CPEX] Carl Clover Combo Thread

Thanks to Kurushii for the header and layout Information:Due to the flexible nature of Carl's combos, this post is not a definitive list of combos and only contains sample combos. The second post will contain possible combo routes. Please keep in mind that this thread is a work in progress. General Notations Used Guide Specific Notations Used j Jump sj Super Jump ad Air Dash iad Instant Air Dash JC Jump Cancel CH Counter Hit FC Fatal Counter RC Rapid Cancel ODC Overdrive Cancel ] [ Hold Input [ ] Release Input (N) Attack must deal N amount of hits [???] xN Repeat ??? N amount of times Allecan j.214C immediately after j.2C hits/is blocked by opponent. This is different from [j.C, j.214C], where j.214C is actually performed Enders Carl can end his combos in a few ways depending on how much heat he has and the kind of oki he wants. - 3C: Sets up oki - 3C, Fermata: Non-OD super damage. Adds 900 minimum damage. 50 meter required. - 3C, OD, 3C, 632146D: OD super ender. Add 1500 minimum damage. 50 meter and OD required. You can go straight into 3C, 632146D if you're already in OD. - 8D into nothing: Sets up emergency tech. Unlike 3C, this gives you more time to set up oki and as such, more complete setups such as safe jumps are possible from this. - Astral (64641236D): You can generally can combo into astral anytime you can combo into fermata. The positioning required for a given combo will be indicated by an arrangement of letters: C- Carl N- Nirvana O- Opponent W- Wall/Corner The ordering of the letters will indicate Nirvana's position in relation to Carl and his opponent. Examples: C-N-O: Carl-Nirvana-Opponent. This indicates that the combo's starting position is when Nirvana is between Carl and the opponent. N-C-O: Nirvana-Carl-Opponent. The starting position is Nirvana being behind Carl. C-O-N: Carl-Opponent-Nirvana. The opponent is between Carl and Nirvana Recommended combos: These combos are recommended due to their damage, resource efficiency and/or overall difficulty. These are by no means the only combos you're limited to but rather serve as solid go-to-combos for whatever situation that may arise. Note that anything off a jump-in j.A can generally lead to a 2A combo while jump-in j.B/C can go into a 5B starter combo. [CF] Carl General Discussion (Changelist in OP)

The reason I consider 4D being one hit a nerf is because it being one hit means it doesn't trap the opponent in blockstun for as long, which is kind of a big deal in neutral since using 4D as a neutral poke won't keep the opponent in place for as long. 4D being one hit does have some situational benefits for some setups and combos but overall I consider the net result a nerf, even if it's not a super big one. Also whatever setup you're thinking of, is it not something that you could just substitute 4D with 6D if you just need a quick one hit move?

So I think that the j.C 5A rejump stuff might be character specific. Throw, j.2C, j.B, j.C, 5A whiffed on Azrael when I tried to do it against him on training mode and I had no problem with it on Jin. Gonna test this on other characters later.

I haven't beaten challenge 20 yet but I tried doing fully charged 6C, CT, j.2C allecan x 8, gear super. The most I've gotten out of that is 4.8k, still gotta figure out how to optimize it.

Alright, so since it turns out that 3D has really short hitstun, 6C and CT won't combo after it. You can still loop the UB via other routes but the damage per rep (around 2.5k) is a bit too low atm to be worth the meter. character specific (will specify later): j.B+3D, 2AA, 5B, 2B, 6B, 46D, 6C, 2A, 5B (release 8D), 2B, 5C, jump forward, 8D hits, j.B, j.2C, j.AAB + 3D, etc (works on taller characters) j.B+3D, 2AA, 5B, 2B, 6B, 46D, 6C, 2A, 5B, 2B, (release 8D), 6B, 6A, neutral jump, 8D hits, j.B, j.2C, j.AAB + 3D, etc (works on smaller characters and Ragna) I tried to substitute 2AA with j.2C but it's really inconsistent. 3D hitstun way too short lol.

I'm starting to update this thread again. It'll take a while to get this up to date since I haven't been keeping up with this thread for a while so apologies for that. Big thanks to Zoular and sinder for their contributions to this thread in the past months. I doubt that I'll be able to find every video by myself so any extra hands to help maintain the thread would be appreciated.

  19. Tldr; - I like Carl-Nu. Having the doll kills a lot of Nu's neutral options, her lack of solid defensive options means once Carl gets in, it's a one-player game. I can just think about approaching in a safe yet affirmative manner. - I hate Carl-Mu. Mu's neutral shits on Carl's and victory against her will require Carl to take some sort of risk and hope it pays off. - Against Mu, I try to punish any mistake she may make in neutral (ex: punish an air stein with Brio) and move forward in a safe manner.

  20. Carl-Mu, on the other hand, is my most hated matchup for several reasons. She has an abundance of excellent neutral tools such as steins, very strong normals and good mobility. These tools not only make it extremely hard for Carl to get in and get something started but also allow her to harass the doll safely. Mu's offense is also very strong she has the ability to perform safe pressure while being able to reap a good amount of reward from even the most innocuous stray hits. Her DP is very good for dealing with Carl's pressure and her abare is much stronger than Nu's due to increased reward, allowing Mu to play more disrespectfully on defense. The combination of all these factors make this one of Carl's worst matchups.

  21. Carl-Nu is my favorite matchup to play not only due to the fact that it's in Carl's favor but also because I've had a ton of practice with this matchup against some excellent Nu/Lambda players; Overheat (rip) and Nedel stand out in particular for me. Anyways, the reason that match is the Carl's favor is because he can easily withstand Nu's zoning. Ada eats up all projectiles from the front with impunity and allows Carl to approach from the ground easily, something that's not very common within his matchups. Nu's arc parser followups can even be punished by Carl is he's prepared for it. Once Carl gets in, he's free to run a train on Nu since her defensive options suck.

  22. I see, so even without wind, she can get wind and/or oki. Can she get wind and oki from a single windless midscreen IOH combo or does she have to choose between the two (not familiar with Rachel combos here so please bear with me :P) On another note, any chance you're going to NEC?

  23. Hey TD, question about Rachel's combos; suppose she has one stock in pressure, uses it to IOH (and gets it) and has no stocks to finish the rest of the combo, which is done midscreen (and fairly far from the comer). What can she get out of it in terms of wind regen, damage and oki compared to if she hit low instead? I'm asking this because often times, there's a chance of Carl (or anyone) being caught in a situation where Rachel is pressuring, she has one stock and can either go high or low. Since she'd have to use the stock for the IOH, I'd figure the reward off an IOH combo would be less since it's windless compared to if she went low and could then use the stock for the combo itself.

  24. You're literally the first Izayoi that I've played so I can't say I have a credible opinion on it. From what little I've seen of this matchup, it seems somewhat reminiscent of Carl-Haku where Izayoi will be on the defensive, trying to gather stocks/resources and whittle down nee-san in a safe manner while keeping Carl away. While Izayoi has tools to make Carl respect the air space above her (her AA specials), she doesn't seem to have a huge presence in neutral; her normals seem kinda eh and her mobility isn't on Tao/Valk level. Looking at the frame data, her teleports are theoretically punishable (11f recovery?) but I didn't do much about your teleports last night so they're either better than I thought or I'm just bad lol. Keep in mind that I'm literally going off one video of this matchup, one game from you and a bit of frame data. I could very well be completely wrong about this.
