  1. 1. There are some links in HERE, but the actual thread looks dead. Seems like social media has taken over for community-building in general. 2. It's recommended, but I've played with the console DMZed and without any ports forwarded, and both times, I had a NAT2 according to the console. 3. It's neither. In addition to meaning "great connection/nearby player," 4 bars is also this game's way of saying "ping cannot be determined." Many times you'll get an unplayable connection with someone far away, and many times you won't be able to connect at all. Once in a blue moon, it'll be a legit 4-bar connection. 4. New game but with some new characters. Gameplay for returning characters is the same, minus some 5D corner combos being different. Maybe some other small changes but I don't know the details. 5. Read the wiki on this website and do the trials in the game. Maybe watch some videos of top players to build motivation and help yourself decide on a character. I think the group "Chemical Lovers" are putting some tutorial videos on Youtube as well. Haven't watched them myself but people say they're good. Good luck.
  2. For half-circle moves, you can omit one diagonal (either of them), but not both. If the move is anything more than a half-circle, including non-supers like Potemkin Buster, you can apparently omit both/all diagonals. I think it's a well thought out change. The more complicated the motion, the less likely the player will get it by accident, so the more leniency there can be.
  3. Maybe it'll have the option to toggle between 1.0 and 1.1 balance like the +R port did. Functional 1.0 replays sort of suggest that. Shouldn't make any difference for tourneys that aren't happening this exact weekend, though. Can't wait to K-Pile nerfed Ram until she flies out the side of the god damn TV.
  4. You've been answered in two different threads already. Slayer's dashes can be cancelled into jumps. That's why you can do a dash, tap up, and then he stops doing the dash halfway through it and does a jump instead. Characters have start-up at the beginning of jumps where they bend their legs and prepare to lift off; you can cancel that short period of jump start-up into special moves or supers. BDC and FDC are just techniques derived from combining these two ideas into one command. The game sees it like this: dash → jump → special move. Seeing somebody else do it or watching a video isn't going to help, especially for BDC bite, which looks exactly like a regular bite. If you hear the sound of the dash and then the special move comes out, you're good. Try recording the dummy doing stun edge and attempt to BDC mappa through it. BDC (purpose: to transfer invincibility from the BD into a move) BDC Mappa: 442369P/K BDC Bite: 6321447H* BDC DOT: 63214469S BDC Dandy: 21447P/K* or 442147P/K (depending on when you want the invincibility to be active) Evidence that you did it right: dash noise (for all), very brief BD animation (for all except *) FDC (purpose: offense/forward movement) FDC Bite: 6632147H FDC Dandy: 662147P/K Evidence that you did it right: dash noise (for both), partial FD animation (for both)
  5. http://www.dustloop.com/forums/index.php?/topic/8258-xrd-slayer-gameplay-discussion/?p=886721 A recent discussion of it starts there. Don't worry about videos. You'll hear the "fwup" sound of the dash and see him disappear briefly if you do it right. For BDC bite, there won't be much evidence except for the sound. Keep input display turned on to see if you're missing diagonals.
  6. I agree with your assessment (I'm a 3S player and all I really care about is the arcade, lol). It's just that the success of a fighting game outside of Japan seems to be very sensitive to bad timing. Despite high viewership, UMvC3 tanked in sales largely because it was announced so soon after most people paid for the original. I don't care for Evo much myself, but I still think that good coordination between developers and big events would be a boon to a series that laypeople are really starting to have faith in and promote. Could be just paranoia talking, but I don't want something bad to happen and end up with a KOF moment where it's like "yay KOF finally made it in the West!," then interest runs dry and the whole series goes off the radar right after that (for different reasons). I'm not familiar with BB at all so I can't predict any of ASW's scheduling habits based on that.
  7. If it's a thorough update, that's sort of disappointing. I felt that it was already a reasonably balanced and generally good first installment of a new series with more room to grow. Brand new fighting games don't usually turn out like that. Besides, I paid for this shit a month ago and they're already about to tell me that what I bought is on the verge of becoming obsolete. Maybe fighting game developers still don't know how it feels to be stuck with something the top players elsewhere in the world are already done with, especially when that feeling kicks in so soon after ponying up the cash. In reference to some posts above, I think it'd be a miracle if ArcSys even know what Evo is. They've always been out of touch with their Western fanbase and I doubt they're going to coordinate their plans perfectly. If the difference between versions is significant and some top Japanese players opt out of going to Evo, that'll be a tragedy.
  8. Haven't had the issues mentioned by others, but I have run into a bunch of other online-related problems that haven't been brought up. On the first day that I had the game, I challenged a person in ranked, but when the match loaded, I had HIS name and character and I was playing against a completely different person whom I never challenged. I'm not sure if the outcome affected the stats for my actual account. A similar thing happened again another day, but the names were just switched. I still had my own character. In general, I get a lot of random "are you ready for the challenge?" messages from the announcer while browsing search results in ranked. This seems to increase the probability that the game will glitch out and give me the wrong opponent or something. One time it got so bad that I left the online area and went into training mode, but even while in training mode, every 60 or so seconds the announcer would say that sample again for no reason, preceded by the little loading cog icon. The game has never frozen for me, but once when I made a ranked lobby (by accident actually), the game shut off immediately and the XMB came up. Pretty sure I was getting that announcer message at the time. If a patch came out today then I don't have it yet, so I'll see if it helps when I get around to it.
  9. Just to follow up on what I said in the old thread, the "out of stock" message finally changed to "in stock" today, despite having pre-ordered well in advance. The estimated delivery date to Toronto is... December 29th. Are these people for real? Has anyone in Canada managed to buy a physical copy of the game or is Best Buy the only chain to botch the release this badly?

You know, you guys with your fancy private chats and whatnot are really making the patch seem DOA for everyone else.

Sorry to bring this up in the midst of Xrd excitement and whatnot, but has anyone tried posting on Yamanaka's twitter or anything? Last time, that's what it took to get him to own up to their horrible release planning. He made multiple tweets apologizing and admitting that certain regions were forgotten (even listing them by name). I don't have Twitter so yeah... just wondering. Does he even know that North American PSN players or Canadian (and most of Europe, if it's like AC's release) Xbox players don't have the update?

Did they at least fix some of the UI problems like not filling the screen correctly on 4:3 displays and the music options at the character select screen disappearing?

So is this strictly a friends list game only now? Does anyone even host public games anymore?

Okay, thanks. The reason I asked is because I thought people might have to be logged into a Japanese account to play their Japanese version of the game as per Sony's rules or whatever. I guess if people can change their location/language to anything and play whichever version of the game they have, I'm justified in using this information as a location indicator.

If somebody has the Japanese version, does that mean their PSN profile will show "Japanese" as their language? I usually base whether or not I play someone on that, since custom search is broken and quick match doesn't show the connection icon. I'm starting to wonder if I could get a playable connection with some of those people.
