  1. ..after leaving I noticed I didn't bite very much and that probably could have netted me some extra damage..but bite is kind of low damage IMO. The only guaranteed combo off it only does 70.

You gotta realise, in guilty gear, damage is not your only goal. Bite does low damage, yet puts you in complete control. If you have an opportunity, especially with slayer to take a combo and then say to yourself "this won't do much damage" so you don't got for it, you'll find yourself losing alot.

You should take advantage of every situation that you can. If bite lands you a knock down, that puts you in complete control.

So.. your mixup's failing...well for one regular high low mix up isn't that scary, you need bite/tick thow's and baits to add another dimension to your mixup. It's not all about landing a hit, its also about forcing a mistake. Slayer is extremely good at this, and he has the ability to take full advantage of any hit he lands, whether its huge damage or a knockdown.

  2. It's always the same basic motion, the only differnce lies in what move you are using. your backdashing then cancelling the backdash with a move, then going into a tiger knee motion with that move. Yes, you can do the same with forward dash, forward dash cancelling is extremly usefull, not for the same reasons as bdc, its mainly used for its movemnt and creates good mixup tools like fdc bite.

  3. jam is a pretty good starting character imo. shes very easy to play, shes like a shotokan without any projectiles. has easy combos/moves and is always high tire since reload. good starting charcter.

I am sorry but I have to completely disagree on that... I play Ryu in SF2 and 3S, and Jam plays NOTHING like it! (beside the fact that I don't know how you can compare GG with SF gameplay...)

It's very easy to see that jam's character was heavily influenced by the original shotokans in street fighter. Jam is nothing like them, in some ways..in the way that it's guilty gear, but at the same time she's looking for the exact same things and they are and going about making them happen in similar ways , minus the reliability on projectiles. Her fundaments are that of a shotokans imo, except no projectiles.

you gotta understand that difference between playing jam, and playing jam at a high level are whole worlds apart.

on the basic level jam is perfect to start off with, high damage easy combos easy inputs, fast pokes with nice hit boxes 2s ^__^. she has insanely strong area's in her game but at the same time she has a very hard time of getting to the point where she can let it shine due to her extremely limited range.

I started on jam and had such difficulties at the start, I'd just rush and rush and get owned over and over. Until I started realising more and more about her strenghts.

With jam you learn all the finer details off gg fast, because you are FORCED TOO.

It's not like ky and sol were you can just stay at bay and abuse projectiles land a combo and win, this is extremely limited in terms of what you will learn imo.

You can repeatedly do the same shit over and over and still win without learning any of the finer details. With jam its completly different, you know her strengths, her abare is crazy her constant abilitry to keep you on defence, in fear of her abare is scary for the opponent, her frame trap/high low/tick thow/bait rushdowns can be really overwhelming, her okizeme blah blah...BUT THE PROBLEM IS you just don't know how to apply these things.

You are forced to learn the finer details, and fast. Learning how to control space and positioning are learned so fast with jam, then eventually you will learn when to break from these things and go on the offence and how to maintain it and you also learn the importance of breaking your offence to go back into space control and baiting. and eventually you will start to really understand how to bait and punish.

Most of the other characters imo always have one thing about there game that stops you from learning how to deal with certain situations because they have the ability to abuse their strengths and always have this one thing they can fall back on. jam doesn't really have this, she really has to work for it alot more than others, forcing you to gain a much higher level of understanding of the game then you could ever get by just abusing the broken strengths of sol and ky. you wanna learn how to play well, play jam.

Im not saying that playing the other characters you won't get good. im saying you can start off as sol and ky and win and learn the game slowly. or you can start of with jam and not do so well but at the same time learn the game much faster because her playstyle forces you to understand so many aspects of the game.

Jam at a high level is what guilty gear is all about, at this level she is imo, one of the most difficult charcter's to play.

  4. its called tech baiting and selective tech. if you can guess where your opponents going to tech you can throw them as soon as they tech, if done right you will throw them, you can't beat out a throw with a regular attack if your in range. yeah, you are just doing it wrong. selective tech is when you tech at a different time/direction because your anticipating them to be on you. in general when your teching your at the disadvantage that's why you tech at different time to throw of your opponent. jam's js is great air ro air move and its great for tech bait punishing.

Perhaps, it would be wiser to choose another character to start with... Jam is cute, but tricky to play. It is easier to learn the game basics using a broken and noobish easier to play char.. say Sol for example...

Personally, I started with Ky and Chipp before learning Jammy.

jam is a pretty good starting character imo. shes very easy to play, shes like a shotokan without any projectiles. has easy combos/moves and is always high tire since reload. good starting charcter.

  5. im wondering why slayer is now considered S class. I still don't have the game, so I gues I can't really say. seems to me like he still got all his old problems and his previous strenghts are even stronger, but imo that shouldn't warrant him being S now. I mean in slash he was really....he had severe problems at times. I think he'll still have alot of these problems, can't see that they added all that much to change him in that aspect, just boosted up his offence and abare. thats enough to make him S tier? I really ahveto play this game to see for myself....

  6. ... but these are the Jam basics to master before going to in-depth combos and stuff.

not really. jam shouln't even be using alot of them.

Get rid of the Streeet fighter habit to DP all air-ennemies! Learn how to counter aerial attacks with her JS:

No. Jam should not be doing that as an anit air. don't get me wrong her js is one of the best normals in the game, but when you see an opponent say iad at you, you dont jump to conter attack. your wasting frames, by the time you jump then wait for your js to activate you'll probably already be getting hit by there move which is already actiave.

het anti airs are 5p 5s 6p and parry.

js is an air to air move not a universal answers to opponts aerial attacks. js is used say when you opponent is teching and you jumping up to attck them with js, this is the sort of place where her js is most usefull.

opponenet guarding low: 5K, S, 6HS (all guarded low) RC->S (free guard break launcher!)

Okay first of you never want to be using a tension required mixup as a basic, since it requires tension. Secondly if its blocked when you have no tension your gonna be punished.

Also it no free if it cost you 50%, aswell as that everyone can react to that move and block the js/jhs. its the mixup that comes from that tahst hard to block. like 6hs rc jhs, land 5k, tick throw, or land 5k, 5d etc.

That can be usefull, but its not in anyway something to revolve your game around. You have better tensionless options with stuff like 2s 2k then you mixup options are good and tensionless, you can frame trap and mixup tension free.
