  1. However, when SSF4:AE comes out, it will have the same lag as the SSF4 for the PS3. In SF4 Vanilla, the PS3 has the same lag, while the 360 is faster.
  2. General rule on fighting games with X360 vs. PS3: - If the game is out on PS3, play it on PS3. GGs everybody! Results tomorrow, I forgot the brackets in the car and I don't feel like going out to get the, =P.
  3. Tetris Attack tournament videos are up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=48E5Qo-T2kE
  4. I should be putting in HnK into Japan Arcade tomorrow. When I do I'll take some picture to show how the place has changed.
  5. Don't forget to meet for BB/GG/MB casuals this Thursday! I've been practicing my Baiken a lot lately, and I want to put that practice to good use.
  6. I've updated the best players of each character for all tournaments on the first page. 7. We only have one copy of AC at FFA, so we're going to buy another one for JA. The disc is actually pretty cheap if you already have the board for it. JA has always stamped your tickets if you ask the guy behind the counter. I think that in the garage you get your first 2 hours free, then if you get your ticket stamped you get another hour. After that you have to pay per hour. (I'm not 100% sure on that)
  8. The problem with not finding someone to play against in ST, is that the CPU is stupid hard. The machine is set on the lowest difficulty, and I could barely pass the first stage. I meant Tekken 5: DR, we have that board in our warehouse. We wouldn't buy Tekken 6: BR, it's too much money considering we have to get SSF4:AE for FFA. EDIT: For the moment, Japan Arcade will pretty much only get hand-me-downs from FFA. If we can make it successful on its own, then we can start upgrading the cabinets on its own. But for now, we don't have the budget to upgrade too much. We'll just be upgrading small things like GGXX -> GGAC, T5 -> T5DR. When we get SSF4:AE, we'll probably add a second pair of SF4 machines in JA. We don't want to neglect FFA, which can hold its own. FFA still doesn't have T6BR, KoF13, MBAA, and some other games we'd like to get, but the biggest reason is because SSF4:AE costs so much money and will take first priority.
  9. No, they didn't. We just added our old BB machine over there. Much of that list includes what we've added within the last couple of days.
  10. It's in Little Tokyo. http://www.arcadefly.com/arcades/japan-arcade-little-tokyo
  11. So, as you may have heard, Ralph took over Japan Arcade. So, a bunch of us from FFA have been going there bringing in new games and fixing the place up. It still requires a lot of work, but we've made a ton of progress. Currently, Japan Arcade has (but will change very soon): Racing: Rush 2049 x2 Hydro Thunder x2 Max Tune 3 DX x2 Initial D 5 x2 Initial D 3 x2 Music: DDR Extreme ParaPara Paradise 2nd Mix Drummania V3 Guitar Freaks V3 Mambo a Go Go Taiko Drum Master 5 Fighting: Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike (JP cabinet) Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike (AM cabinet) Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike (AM Head2Head cabinet) Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 (AM cabinet) Garou: Mark of the Wolves (AM cabinet) Super Street Fighter II: Turbo (AM cabinet) Tekken 5 (JP dedicated cabinet) King of Fighters XI (JP cabinet) Guilty Gear XX (JP cabinet) King of Fighters 2002 (JP NeoGeo cabinet) King of Fighters 2000 (JP NeoGeo cabinet) Street Fighter IV (JP sticks) BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (AM sticks) Puzzle: Puzzle Bobble Puzzle Bobble Again Tetris Plus Super Puzzle Fighter II: Turbo Shoot-em Up: Raiden Fighters II Strikers 1999 Others: Virtua On Metal Slug 4 Punchmania 2 Ninja Assault Some Japanese sniper game Kisarugi (that Japanese sword fighting game) Air Hockey Pool Table 60 in 1 Cocktail cabinet A lot of stuff will be changing in the future. Most importantly, we will be checking all the games and fixing them (a lot of the sticks kind of suck right now). We will also be converting most of the fighters to H2Hs. SF4 will get a toggle to choose between AM or JP sticks, similar to FFA's cabinet. BlazBlue will go into a JP cabinet. We'll probably add CvS2, and HnK. GG will be upgraded to AC. Tekken 5 will be upgraded to Tekken 5: DR. Probably MotW, and KoF2k2 will be consolidated into one cabinet with two other neo geo fighters (my vote is for KoF2k3 and FF:S). We will be adding a hacked In the Groove machine. We will be adding Bishi Bashi. We will be adding consoles with online play. If FFA upgrades a machine, Japan Arcade will at least get the older version (i.e. if FFA gets BBCS2, JA will get BBCS1).

    Tournament Standards

Typically when I run tournaments, I allow late entrants during the first round of the tournament. After the first round, I don't let them in. Some organizers might punish with a bigger entry fee or something, but that's up to the organizer. Since I seed the brackets, the best players are the ones most likely to get a bye. So, if you enter late, I have to put you in a bye spot, which will be next to the best players in the tournament. It's kind of a punishment: showing up late so your first match is against Mike Z.
  14. I was thinking of an older tier list. Here's the current one: Arcadia Pre-SBO Issue (April) 05/06/10 S: ED, TE A: MI B: MA, PO, JA, SL C: SO, KY, CH, FA, BA, AX, AN, VE, DI, IN, ZA, RO, AB, OS D: JO, BR Johnny and Bridget are still great characters, though.
  15. Just learn on the FFA cab. Which character are you interested in? The game is very well balanced, considering the diversity of characters. If I remember right, there's only one S tier character (Eddie) and only one C tier character (Johnny). GGΛC >> BBCS imo, if you're going to play a specific sub-genre of fighter, you at least need to at least play the following: Old school: Street Fighter III: Third Strike Airdasher: Guilty Gear XX Λ Core 3D Plane: Virtua Fighter 5: Final Showdown
  16. GGs Brett, Severin, and Raptor. I've been practicing a lot of GG since the last tournament.

    Standard Tournament Rules?

Though I've never had it come up, in the tournaments I run I allow Beginner Mode. Until someone finds a way to make Beginner mode break the system (i.e. Tager instantly doing 720s and able to do crazy bs because of it [i've never used Beginner, so idk how it works]) I may as well allow it. As for characters, the rule should be "If it's allowed in Ranked Matches, it's allowed in tournaments," unless of course you're running it on arcade only. So the new characters are tourney legal and the Unlimited characters are obviously not. As for banning stages: back in CT for arcade, Haku-men/Nu's stage had a lag problem (if someone was Instant Blocking all of Nu's super, or Carl's doll was doing something right as Haku-men was doing his super it would lag the game out pretty badly) so we tried to avoid it. However, that wasn't 100% possible, in event mode the game chose the stage based on the second player's character, so we'd set it up so they wouldn't play on that stage. But if you have Nu vs. Nu, you had to have that stage. In general, certain stages should be soft banned if there's a good reason. The Training stage in CS is a good example. EDIT: Oh yeah, button macros. It doesn't really change gameplay to have Throw as its own button or RC as its own button, and it's a selectable feature in the game. Until someone gives a good reason as to how these can be broken, they should be allowed. Obviously controller specific macros should be banned, though. However, if the tournament is run on arcade, you won't be able to use button macros.

    Banning Training Mode Stage

Generally in the tournaments I run, if a random stage is selected and the training stage pops up, anybody can object to it and we'll restart the match on a different stage. The stage doesn't really have markers that you can use to judge how far you are from the corner, which can kind of hinder gameplay. And besides, it's just boring. I am for soft banning the stage.
  19. I'll be at the arcade tonight. I've been working on my Guilty Gear. Great games last night, BadX!
  20. If we have to run it on console, we won't have the VH2 or VS2 versions. There's a difference with how Dark Forces work in those. Also, Donovan, Huitzal and Pyron won't be tournament legal. VS is kind of complicated on how they tried to update it.
  21. Fixed that and fixed the button problem. I secured the ball top, but I won't be able to replace the stick (which feels a little bit stiff) until we get more in stock. We WILL be having a tournament, as per normal, on October the 17th. I had thought that Burnt Toast would be on that weekend. Included in the tournament will be: Guilty Gear Λ Core (Normal, this time) @ 2PM; $2 to enter, plus pay to play. Melty Blood Actress Again @ 2PM; $1 to enter BlazBlue: Continuum Shift @ 5PM; $7 to enter ($5 pot; $2 house) Tatsunoko vs. Capcom @ 5PM; $6 to enter ($4 pot; $2 house) Tetris Attack @ ~5PM; $1 to enter Vampire Savior: The Lord of the Vampire @ ~5PM; $1 to enter, plus pay to play. I'll update the first post in a bit. EDIT: Updated. EDIT2: I know it's a ways off, but when Arcana Heart 3 comes out, we'll be having it at 2PM. This is mostly due to us needing the PS3 for BB at 5PM, and us being full for tournaments at 5PM.
  22. Burnt Toast is going to be on the 23rd, isn't it? >_<
  23. Results!: BlazBlue: 1st: Mike Z. [Tager] 2nd: Zong_One [Carl, Arakune] 3rd: Severin [Λ-11] 4th: render [Jin] 6th: JamesX [Λ-11, Valky] 6th: Ika Takeda [Hazama] 8th: Jason D. I especially had a lot of fun in the special Guilty Gear tournament. Thanks a lot to Mike Z. for bringing in Skull Girls. Thanks to Rachel for hosting the Tetris Attack tournament. Thanks to render for helping me run the BlazBlue tournament. Thanks a lot to Strider_Zer0 for recording matches. Thanks to Shin ATProof for bringing in another PS2, it made the Guilty Gear tournament go a whole lot faster. Thanks to the TvC crew, RoyalFlush and everyone else. Thanks to everyone who entered! A few announcements about the next upcoming tournament: Normally we'd host it on 10/17, which would fit in with our schedule. However, Burnt Toast will be happening at that time. So, we will be having our tournament on 10/31, Halloween instead. Feel free to dress up if you want to. Usually FFA gives out free candies on Halloween. However, TvC will likely still happen on 10/17, I need to double check. Guilty Gear will go back to normal and be a single normal tournament from now on. It was fun doing the team version, but I don't want to do it often. So bring your A game, you only have to use your main. We will try to bring a second PS3 to run the tournament on. This last time I put the arcade on event mode and we ran it on both console and arcade. I'd like to avoid using the arcade cabinet for tournaments if possible. We will also be adding another game to the list for Sunday tournaments. Vampire Savior, aka Darkstalkers 3. This game, made by Capcom in 1997, was the bridge that helped move fighting games towards the current new-school/airdasher genre. It's a lot of fun, fast, and surprisingly complicated. You can get it on MAME pretty easily if you want practice, and it's available for GGPO. We're also trying to get it added to the arcade soon. I'm pretty sure the VS tournaments will be run by Rotanibor, a TvC player. Another note, Ralph, the owner of FFA, has just taken ownership of Japan Arcade, an arcade in a mall in Little Tokyo. We're trying to build it up to make it better than it was. Currently, we're putting in our old BlazBlue: CT, Punchmania (Fist of the North Star), and some more Americanized games: MvC2, Rush 2049. Currently they have Guilty Gear XX, but we're planning on buying AC and putting that in. We will probably also put in HnK (the fighting game). We'll be adding consoles and a snack bar section, too. So if you live nearby, go ahead and check them out. There's a lot of renovations coming its way. One more thing: we've been having casual meetings at the arcade to play BlazBlue, Guilty Gear and the like. Every Thursday night, a bunch of us meet just to play for fun, no tournaments or anything. It's nice to have a day, where you can know to expect players for your game, especially if you aren't able to make it to the arcade often. Typically people won't get there until after 8pm, so if you get there early, don't wonder why noone's there yet. If you want some good BB or GG competition, show up on Thursdays!
  24. Great games everybody, results will be posted later today. Justin was at FFA on Thursday playing BB and GG.
  25. Aye, this Sunday is the next tournament.
