  1. GGs to everyone at FFA last night, especially that Slayer player. Also, GGs to everyone in Melty Blood, I've been practicing that game non-stop since we got the newest version.

Our BlazBlue is down temporarily. We're working on fixing it, and it will be back up soon.

@Mighty: Yeah we meet every thursday. I bring in my Arcana Heart 3, and we all play Guilty Gear, Melty Blood, and BlazBlue.

@Wild Wallice: How did you like your first trip to FFA? We just got 2 more stations for SSF4:AE (making a total of 8, but one of them is temporarily down, making 7 for now).

  2. I've been getting a bunch of responses from talking to people personally and through PMs. It's mostly positive for the new changes, but there's been some concerns.

Mostly, that we might not get enough people for Arcana and Melty, or that the Guilty players wouldn't get exposed to those games.

Addressing that, here's my take on it:

Arcana Heart 3 has just been localized and released, so I'm hoping that more people will get into it (If PSN can get back up and running >.>). I've been talking to some people over at homingcancel.com, who mostly live pretty far away, and I think more people would be interested in coming if it didn't happen as often. A couple people there have said that they like the idea of the tournaments being at 5pm and once a month.

As for Melty Blood, a lot of people have been getting into it since we've gotten the arcade cabinet. I was just playing Numakie last night, known for getting in 8th place at Evo. When I started Melty Blood tournaments a long time ago, we had a bunch of famous Melty players (like HF-Blade, and Xie [who is still a regular for tournaments]). I think most players would be up for driving an hour to get to FFA if they only had to do it once a month.

Guilty Gear I'm not worried about, lol. It's going to do well no matter what we do.

BlazBlue is getting ready to pick up again. CS2 is coming out mid-May, along with Platinum.

Hopefully these changes will boost attendance. Bigger tournaments are more fun, you get to meet more players, and (if you win) it's more rewarding! So let's try this out and see what happens.

As for those of you who live nearby and would be up for showing up to both Guilty/BlazBlue and Arcana/Melty, the Sunday tournaments would still be a great day to play casual matches in the games that we're not running tournaments for. This can help bring in new interested players for the other games as well, so players would still be exposed to the other games during the other tournaments.

I won't completely decide until after I've talked to a lot more people during Sunday's tournament.

P.S. I'll also probably reset the best of characters list when we start this.

  3. So I was thinking about a reformat of our tournaments. Let me know what you guys think:

We run tournaments every other week, but the games change. All games would start at 5pm.

    Example:

Week 1: Guilty Gear & BlazBlue

Week 3: Arcana Heart & Melty Blood

Week 5: Guilty Gear & BlazBlue

Week 7: Arcana Heart & Melty Blood

    etc.

I think that having tournaments for each game less frequently, and at the better time of 5pm, would help attendance for each game.

With fewer games per tournament, it would be less costly for those players who enter everything. And for those players who only enter one or two games, it would be cheaper as well, since you'd only be entering those tournaments once every 4 weeks.

Because of this potential increase in attendance, as well as the tournaments being less costly, we could feasibly up the price on the tournaments, which would yield bigger pots.

What I would consider for the new pricing would be:

Guilty Gear: $5 entry, plus putting quarters in the machine.

    BlazBlue: $7 entry: $5 pot, $2 house

Arcana Heart: $5 entry: $3 pot, $2 house

Melty Blood: $5 entry, plus putting quarters in the machine.

Let me know what you guys think. This would not apply to MvC3. I might work something else out there, but the MvC3 tournaments are practically independent of these. The May 1st tournament will continue to go as planned, if we implemented these changes, they wouldn't start until May 15th.

  4. I'm talking Yucca Valley, 29 Palms, and Palm Springs.

I'm not from around there, sorry, dude.

where do people play guilty gear here

How many peoples still play gg? Im temped to start playing again if a scene still exists.

The scene's picking up at the arcade I work at, FFA. I'm trying to get more people into it. I've been running bi-weekly tournaments there and they've been doing pretty well. More and more people have been getting into it because of BlazBlue.

A bunch of us also meet every Thursday there for casuals. (Made my own regional thread for that one). We've got BlazBlue, Guilty Gear, the newest Melty Blood, and I even bring in my PS3 for Arcana Heart 3.

I really want the scene to build up. Thousand Oaks is like 45-50 minutes away from FFA, so the drive isn't that bad, Mighty.

  5. Anyone in the 760 or the like should let me know. Looking for BB, MvC3 and perhaps MK9 players. I've met a couple people who wish to either play these games, improve, or play with people.

I just looked it up, 760 is huuuge! What city do you live in? We might be able to help you out if we know that.

  6. I had a lot of fun from playing GG, KOFXIII, BBCS, and MK9 last night. That Taokaka player, I played last night, had me running with some good shits. My props to that Tao player. This year is going to be epic. Get hyped for EVO 2011! :)

That was Seungpyo. He's really fucking good at every fighter he plays, but he hasn't entered any tournaments in a while.

PLAY MELTY BLOOD ACTRESS AGAIN CURRENT CODE!! It's the only MBAACC arcade cabinet in the whole of the United States! Let's get some good matches on it and get hyped for the upcoming tournaments!

P.S. A thread for casual matches and meetings for GG, BB, MB and AH.

  7. As for BBCS, so many tournaments seemed to often depend on me bringing my Arcade stick due to the lack of people bringing their own. The problem now is that it's broken and won't be fixed for a while. So yeah, if anyone has a PS1/2 or a PS3 stick, please bring it especially if I can't get my stick fixed by the time BBCS2 patch comes out. The same deal with AH3. Otherwise, no BBCS or AH3...or MBAA if anyone actually enters lol.

So yeah, BYOC players. Be willing to share too. Everyone benefits:eng101:

I might have my other stick ready soon, but you guys should not be depending on it!

As for Melty Blood... we won't need a stick... We'll be able to use an arcade cabinet!

There might be some news in the future about something cool related to these tournaments. I know it's vague, but I'm not supposed to mention it in case it doesn't go through for some reason. I'll fill you guys in as more info develops.

We just got the board for Melty Blood Actress Again Current Code, that same one that was for sale by Fubarduck in this thread awhile back!

There are currently some slight complications for the game. This is our first time dealing with the Ringwide board, and we're having some problems with how it receives power*. Hopefully it will be ready by the next tournament on the 17th!

*For those of you who might know about it, the Ringwide board requires a DC in. The board came with an AC->DC regulator, but the board is still not receiving power. We're working hard and talking to people we know to see how we can fix the problem. The board is in our hands, but it won't start yet! :vbang:

  8. Great games to all! Had a lot of fun.

    Results:

    Guilty Gear:

    1st Place: ShinATProof [baiken]

    2nd: SLEDGE [Chipp]

    3rd: Jason D. [Axl]

    4th: DQRF [sol]

    7th: Id [baiken]

    7th: RealBobman [Chipp]

    7th: Blumpkin King [Axl]

Congrats to Shin for his first time getting first place in Guilty Gear! Good games to everyone I played in the tournament, they were really good matches. It's great to see DQRF, Bobman, and Blumpkin King back after their absence. DQRF told me that their car broke down, and they were just able to get back on the road now. The tournament was full of mirror matches, lol. Can't wait for the next tournament!

    Marvel vs. Capcom 3:

    1st Place: Fanatiq [Magneto/Storm/Sentinel]

    2nd: Bingo [spencer/Chris/Haggar]

    3rd: Tronzilla666 [Hsien-Ko/Dormammu/Taskmaster]

    4th: Scythe [Wesker/Dormammu/Tron]

    4th: Plectrum [C. Viper/Dante/Trish]

    4th: Hellfyre [Zero/Wesker/Sentinel]

There was apparently a big tournament in Irvine I didn't know about. We missed a lot of faces that usually show up (Larence, big daddy chris, rotanibor, ll.nd, etc.). Fanatiq made his debut with his classic MvC2 team, and took the tournament. Bingo's a friend of mine who wasn't sure about entering the tournament, so I paid his entry fee to encourage him, and he did exceptionally well. Strider_Zero recorded the Grand Finals, check them out if you get a chance, they were very exciting!

    Vampire Savior:

    1st Place: SLEDGE [Anakaris]

    2nd: ShinATProof [Felicia]

    3rd: KANE [Lei-Lei, Bulletta]

    4th: Jason D. [Morrigan]

    5th: Id [Lillith]

Because of the low turn-out we held a round robin tournament, which ended in a three-way tie! After a tie-breaker between Sledge, Shin and Kane, Sledge and Shin went into grand finals against each other. I used to play as Jedah, but I went against it when I saw all these other Jedah players. I might pick him up again since Lillith just isn't cutting it.

BlazBlue was cancelled, due to lack of console joysticks =(. Bring your own sticks, guys! If we just had one more person bring in a stick, we could have run the tournament.

There might be some news in the future about something cool related to these tournaments. I know it's vague, but I'm not supposed to mention it in case it doesn't go through for some reason. I'll fill you guys in as more info develops.

P.S. Casuals have been starting to pick up lately. There's a lot of people for BlazBlue, a bunch of random new people for Melty Blood (If you're thinking about picking up Melty Blood now's the time to do it!), and a few strong good players in Guilty Gear (especially including Seungpyo, who plays half of the roster ungodly well, and John, a great Chipp player who doesn't like entering tournaments). Show up on Thursdays for some great matches in whatever you play, I even bring down Arcana Heart 3, and have been tutoring people on the game each week.
