Man, that plain white custom stick you made looks really comfortable (nice art on the other one, too). I don't really have the time or money to dedicate to doing that at the moment though, especially after I just bought this one. I'm not really sure what to do about this since I play sitting on a couch. Maybe I could get some kind of TV dinner tray thing to go over my lap and elevate the stick a bit? Not sure if that would help.

The "Help Using a Joystick" Thread

I posted this in the fight stick recommendation thread, but maybe this would be a better place: I just recently got a Hori RAP4 (the silent optical one). I've been having trouble reliably doing IADs, and I was trying to figure out exactly why. I spent some time feeling out the lever's gate corners, then I tried moving the whole stick over to the left edge of my lap so my left arm could extend in a natural straight line to hold the stick instead of bending my elbow inward. I found that I immediately had much more comfort and control and was IADing more reliably. I really like the silent RAP4, especially the quality of the lever, but my old madcatz Soul Calibur V stick had a lever that was significantly farther from the buttons. However, I think maybe even it is not far enough away to comfortably hold in your lap with a straight arm. Aside from playing with your stick on a surface like a table, what solution is there for this? It's irritating that I'm having to bend my lever-arm into this uncomfortable, un-ergonomic position due to the lever being located so far inward. My lever arm feels almost "trapped" if I play with the stick in the middle of my lap, like my range and ease of motion are being significantly limited. Maybe this is less of an issue for Japanese people with shorter arms, but I'm not sure why Hori chose to place the lever so close to the buttons on the RAP4. It just seems like bad engineering...

    [Xrd] I-No Gameplay Discussion

I was trying out I-no's challenges last night and I found it impossible to do 6P into S Stroke the Big Tree. It seems like the special motion has to be executed extremely quickly. Any suggestions on this? Also, I noticed that when doing a note and dashing afterwards, she would often do an extremely vertical dash instead of the normal one. Not sure why this is.

Sounds sweet! I think I might really like this, because the Sanwa stick I have (on the Soul Calibur V Madcatz) does seem a little oversensitive, and it has enough throw distance and resistance on it that I find air dashing to be a real chore. I tend to do accidental inputs as well with Sanwa buttons, so this might be a nice change. The main thing I'm wondering is whether it's large enough to comfortably rest your stick hand on. I was talking to a friend of mine earlier and he was saying that some of the Hori sticks are so small that there is no room to rest your wrist (or the side of your hand, really), since the stick itself is very close to the slanted bottom edge of the case. What was your experience like with this, or do you not rest your hand on the case when you play? I use a bat top, myself...

Does anyone have the official Guilty Gear Stick?

Thanks for the feedback. I kinda figured it wouldn't be ideal since it's old and non-Sanwa, but the price is pretty low. I might pick it up anyway, just because I wanted one back in 2003 and couldn't afford it back then. They also have the old SVC Chaos stick at this store, which I think is the same thing with a normal 6-button layout. That could be a good compromise. Then again, I could just try to get something more modern... Any recommendations for an alternative? I've read that the SF4 Tournament Edition stick is the best thing around, but it seems to be quite expensive. edit: I should add, I'm not a super-serious pro player or anything, but I do love Guilty Gear. I just want something around the $100 range that doesn't suck.

Does anyone have the official Guilty Gear Stick?

Not exactly what this topic was about, but I'm wondering if anyone has opinions on the old GGXX PS2 Sammy stick. A local game store has one new in box for $80, and I played with it for a minute and it feels pretty nice. It can be used with PS3 with an adapter, so I was thinking about picking it up. The one thing I noticed about it was that the stick itself seems pretty tight. Not awfully so, but it seemed like dashing and airdashing was a bit of a chore. I'm not sure if it would be better in the long run to have a tighter stick or a looser one. The buttons seem fine. Any opinions appreciated!

General Audio/Video Help & Request Thread

Hey, I used to have #r installed on my computer but lost it in a hard drive crash. I just reinstalled it yesterday, and I found that I have the same problem with the music that I used to. When stages are loading, it plays the correct music, and then switches back to the character select music for a few seconds. Then when the stage actually loads, it plays the stage music for a bit and then cycles back to the loading music. This is really annoying since I like the GGXX music a lot, and this problem seems to have appeared out of nowhere back when I originally had the game installed. Also, the title screen looks weird, with the logo greyed out. Could that be related? My sound card is an onboard one that isn't too great, but I'm using a vanilla 6800 for video so I don't think that's the problem. Has anyone else ran into these issues before? I'm thinking maybe the game files have been corrupted somehow...
