  1. Man, the topic on the front page made it seem like you just play through arcade mode and and a poll comes up. Was super disappointed. Played through arcade mode with Johnny, and had no idea what I was doing. I was never good with Johnny or anything, but he feels way different.
  2. Am I missing something, or was linking to the guild site pointless because you need to have played Revelator to see the poll info? I can't see it at least. I want to know who is even in the poll / how it works...
  3. I mainly use Carmine, and Linne. I know Akatsuki is easy to keep out, but not "get a perfect every time" easy. If I spend half the round chucking 6b at him, I'm inviting him to kill me in 2 hits. It just seems like against players who know combos my only option is "never get hit. not even once". And that seems like a tall order. Also, pinwheel's hitbox makes no sense and spends way too much time being visible on screen without actually being able to hit. Can you use veil off to get out of pressure though? I never even though of that. I don't really understand all the mechanics in this game yet. I literally just realized yesterday that you can't block in air. I baited a Vatista into doing her flash kick, died anyway, got super mad and went into training mode to see what moves of hers are air unblockable, and realized...oh, all moves are. How does the barrier work, someone must've made a primer on that. It seems to break really easily. Wish this game had a tutorial. Also, I can't be the only person who has an issue with overlapping inputs in this game? Sometimes I'll try to do a dash in attack with Linne into qcb b, and instead I get hcb which does not combo. I feel like it would've made more sense to make qcb a down down input.
  4. How do you not instantly lose if you get hit in the corner with Carmine? I just started playing this and I'm insanely bad, and any time I fight Orie or (bottom tier) AKatsuki online I want to kill myself because one clean hit means the round is over 90% of the time. Even on a good connection I can't see to do anything against Orie's straight thrust special. I know command grab and qcb are allegedly reversals, but they have never once worked for me. Blocking is so weird in this game, block stun never seems to be short enough for me to do anything. [edit] was just handily perfected by two different orie players in a row, please tell me what to do against that move, it seems like the best move in any fighting game ever. It's like if Yun could activate genei jin off ex dash punch, and also ex dash punch was free.
  5. I've had no interest in this game for years, but now suddenly I kind of want to try it out. I played one round at the arcade, and it seemed decent enough. Maybe a tall order, but does anybody know if the new version has any changes drastic enough to make the console version not worth messing around with? I really hate having to relearn things. I'd want to use someone whose bnbs are relatively unchanged, if such a character exists. The combos seem like they can get pretty long, so a "Mu's cr.c is no longer jump cancellable" situation would be a big deal breaker. I'd like to trend toward someone low execution anyway, but I often wind up liking unconventional characters. I've tried looking at chang logs and whatnot, but it's hard to get a sense of what's what without having really played it myself.
  6. Whoah, Mu's 2c IS jump cancellable? That guy I was watching landed several and just didn't even bother trying? What is that about. I wound up going this morning. The wait wasn't too bad, maybe a little over an hour? I was super tired because I stayed the night at a net cafe and only got like 3 hours of sleep. Sleeping in not-a-bed is hard for me. I figured it would make more sense to try out Makoto, since basically all I know about Mu in CPEX is "can't jump cancel 2.c" anyway, but I blew it pretty hard. Got nervous and screwed up my combos. Most of her super basic bnb stuff seemed like it still worked though? Nothing as arbitrary as the Mu 2c nerf. One thing I noticed was that 2c (in the throw combo) seemed to hit the opponent too high to follow up properly, but mayyyybe it's just faster now and I did it too fast? Hopefully? BBS still seemed stupidly slow. Didn't manage to get any followups off the modified shooting star, but it seemed fine. Sorry I did so bad. I flew threw her palettes too, I only remember that no.4 is red with close to default hair color.
  7. I guess nobody here was able to go to this, huh. I did, but I basically walked in and out because I didn:t understand the system. Was hoping someone could explain it, since I'm still in Akiba in a net cafe. I watched one match, because someone was playing Mu. Saw them land a few 2c's with no jump cancel, so that pretty much answer what is, to me, the most important question. New qcb D looks neat though.
  8. Has anyone ever been to one of these loc tests? I assume the wait is killer. I know the IIDX loc test last week only accept 120 people a day. I kind of want to go to this since it's summer break, but it might be super pointless. Not like I'm even good enough to compile a compelling change log. Dunno what the match etiquette is either. The other guy might just stomp me into the ground before I can press any buttons. That'd be rude...

    Monitor Discussion Thread

Yeah, I've only seen them in Japan. Definitely an off brand. But when I was in college, the dorm manager guy let me borrow a Princeton monitor, and I was able to play BB and VF on it with no issues that I noticed; compared to the TV in the common room, which wasn't unbearable, but had just a hint of lagginess. Different model though so I was still taking a stupid risk. Not sure what model the other one was, but I looked at a picture I took of my room that the monitor was visible in, and you could tell they weren't exactly the same.

    Monitor Discussion Thread

Maybe useless post, but why not. I'm in Japan and I bought this thing http://www.amazon.co.jp/Princeton-%E3%83%97%E3%83%AA%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B9%E3%83%88%E3%83%B3-%E7%99%BD%E8%89%B2LED%E3%83%90%E3%83%83%E3%82%AF%E3%83%A9%E3%82%A4%E3%83%88%E3%82%AB%E3%83%A9%E3%83%BC%E6%B6%B2%E6%99%B6%E3%83%87%E3%82%A3%E3%82%B9%E3%83%97%E3%83%AC%E3%82%A4-21-5%E3%82%A4%E3%83%B3%E3%83%81%E3%83%AF%E3%82%A4%E3%83%89-PTFBKF-22W/dp/B00GP89G88 the Princeton PTFBKF-22W. I'm cheap, and it was only 15,000 yen (tax included). I felt like it was a bad risk and was wondering why I let myself waste $150ish on an untested monitor, but super luckily it works really well for fighting games. I mean, I THINK it does, I don't really know the specs. But the first thing I did was fire up 3rd Strike, and do Makoto's 98% stun combo, and I got it on my first try. For reference, I can do that combo consistently on my old ASUS monitor, but I screw it up every time in the arcade version. Doesn't necessarily mean the monitor is fantastic, but it's definitely usable. Picture quality isn't great, colors look a little drab, gets a little blurry when things move really fast (just a little bit). Pretty solid for the price, I think. My Japanese isn't good enough to read the 2 star review, but it seems like it's mostly complaining that there's no head phone jack... Compared to my roommates TV in the living room, I tried to simple cancel Makoto HP into qcf P, and I screwed that up. So...I'm happy with the monitor, is basically all I'm saying. Maybe someone can come in here and tell me it's actually not good. Here's the product page. http://www.princeton.co.jp/product/ptfwkf22w.html [edit] my copy pasting seems to have made the font all weird. meh.
  11. Thanks for the offer, but I think my biggest problem is trying to adjust to a character who can't just throw out sword of decimation and get out of pressure for free. And before somebody tells me that move wasn't safe: I have no idea what the frames are, but I can't remember ever having been punished in the past for it. Granted, CS when it was new vs "I'm in Japan playing CPEX when it's 3 months old and older in arcades" is a factor that probably doesn't help. I don't actually know blockstrings, usually by the time I notice they're blocking, I've already started to command dash in, and I just figure "oh uh, well the low is pretty unreactable online, I have a 50/50 chance of winning this". Or maybe I RC, usually bad players won't call it out, but it's kind of obvious if you're paying attention. I feel like Izayoi seems kind of neat this time around, but I don't understand her, and I don't have any sense of what her combos are. I went into lobby match, and fought some random Terumi, and felt way more confident against him than with Makoto just by virtue of having a projectile. It's like, oh, he has to come to ME, that simplifies things greatly. Won several matches in spite of forgetting her commands several times. Meant to do her install super, and instead did a full screen astral whiff, lol. I need more free time, going from years of having 0 responsibilities to having a full time job is so awkward. Oh, I guess the "block string" I spoke of with Terumi is just that thing every single Terumi does, with the move that looks like it should be an overhead but isn't, and his down + D, and if I hit a button after it I lose. I guess it's easy enough to get out of, but with Makoto it's like, "Ok, I'm out. Now we're basically back to square one, but I have less barrier."
  12. Ok, well thanks for giving me some sense of the many thing I'm doing wrong. Definitely using all the wrong moves on block. BBS as a punish in a round ending situation is super hard wired into me, in spite of not having used Makoto that much in CS/2, if I can't get over that soon I have to drop her. It's tendency to lose to virtually everything is maddening. It'd be better if they just got rid of it. Wouldn't be tempted to use it.
  13. I've been trying to use Makoto and having serious issues. Can someone explain this to me? Pretty much every time my opponent blocks any one of my attacks, I get punished. Pretty much any time I block an opponents attacks, I get punished. Supposedly bottom tier Terumi keeps me in block strings for days. I press B, too slow. A, not enough reach. I can't do anything outside point blank range. Orb and BBS are useless now. I don't understand how this is the good Makoto. Tell me what I should be doing.
  14. I was just doing player matches in Xrd and had a weird crash. It was the deciding moment of the last round (it ALWAYS is when I get disconnected), I was using Faust had just done his P super, air dashed in, the opponent Ramlethal started to do her giant beam super, but before it finished the screen went black, and after a few seconds I was back on the Ps3 main menu. The system didn't need to restart, and I was still logged into PSN. Anything like this happen to anyone else?
  15. Boo! So it wasn't as stupid as I thought. Oh well, I just really found the sight of the beach ball slowly approaching amusing. Online play in this game has been frustrating for me, because obviously I'm not going to be good at a game I just picked up, but I can't tell you how many matches I've had down to the wire, only to win by chip damage and see that the opponent has full meter. It's like, YAY I barely won...he doesn't even know how to FD!? I'm THAT BAD that I barely won against someone who doesn't know how to FD? [edit] although this particular guy probably did know how to FD and just didn't know he could've done it there, I've beaten people buy doing raw super right in their face forgetting it's not street fighter, or full screen projectiles...
  16. Do people actually play like that? I tend to shift around a bit.
  17. To people who have been playing Xrd more seriously than I / people who have followed videos since the Japanese release: does this sort of thing happen often in danger time? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXmR4Mu5Q-0 Because I don't quite know how to feel about it. On one hand, it's hilarious...on the other, shouldn't projectile freeze when danger times activates? Seems like an oversight. Apologies if I'm beating a dead horse, because I honestly didn't follow the game at all until the console release.
  18. I'm a stickler for using the default arcade layout, but I've always been super confused about why they made 3 of the 5 buttons transfer seamlessly, but swapped P and K. They even made their icons the color of the buttons they're assigned to on a Dual Shock! It took me a solid week before I got used to it, and I'm still a little shaky. Challenge mode was one of the first things I tried to do, and I mixed up P and K EVERY TIME. I can switch back an forth between stick and pad in BB on the fly, but the PK thing makes it too disorienting in GG. That's what I get for having 10+ years of on and off single player casual GG pad play experience.

    [AC+R] News & Gameplay Discussion

Huh, that's unfortunate. I wouldn't have guessed based on my experience, but I've mostly only been to tokyo's biggest arcades, so I guess it would stand to reason that they aren't the norm. Hopefully the 3S scene persists, because I'm still delusional about being good at it some day, and further more hopefully the complaints of the more outspoken people about LCD are as overblown as I'd hoped. I've been playing on an ASUS monitor the whole time, and my execution isn't too bad...

    [AC+R] News & Gameplay Discussion

Weird. Is there a reason GG people are so much more open to LCD than 3S people? Serious question, like is there a key gameplay difference? I'd think having extra milliseconds of lag would be even worse for a game with FRC. I feel like if I'd been a serious AC player, I'd have been against +R simply on the grounds of it being totally unnecessary. I super super hate having to relearn things. That's like half the reason I started playing 3S last year, and why I probably will never care about BB again. Not even sure why I'm playing Xrd.

    [AC+R] News & Gameplay Discussion

Aren't there also still people in Japan who play normal AC over AC+R? Considering how most of the 3S scene absolutely refuses to play on LCDs. It came out on Nesica 2 months ago, and the 3rd highest ranked guy only has 151 matches played (1 and 2 are set to private because they are big losers). And before anyone asks, no, 3S is not dead over there. Not in Tokyo at least.
  22. I got this game recently, and I've only ever played GG casually. Out of the characters I used to use, Dizzy, Zappa, and Testament are gone, leaving Ky and May as characters I feel relatively comfortable with. I'm leaning toward maning Ky to be boring, and because I don't think I understand proper GG fundamentals and I don't want to get bogged down in weird stuff before learning the stuff that matters. I have a question though. How important is the Jump Install mechanic? I've never fully understood, and I don't really like it. Is there anyone who needs to use it constantly? Does everyone? If possible, I'd prefer to use someone who isn't super reliant on it.

    [P4AU] News & Gameplay Discussion

"Hey guys, this debate is dumb but here's my take on it! You guys are stupid for wanting something you had previously and is still on the disc!" Why do you people even bother posting. Obviously the English version is MUCH cheaper. That is an incredibly legitimate reason to wait for it. If you want to lend me the extra $50 or so I'd need for the Japanese version with DLC, go ahead.

[CP] News & Gameplay Discussion (Old)

Those results are kind of upsetting, or they were until people started saying that VAs were a factor, which makes it sickening instead. Oh well, at least Carl didn't place last, and Litchi was really low. Small victories, I guess. ...but Tsubaki, really? Who even voices her? *looks it up* Oh, someone I've never heard of, who isn't in anything I've ever seen. I guess this is because of Steins Gate? Japan's realy takes flavors of the month to a frightening extreme. Also, Kliff being dead last behind even NPCs in GG is pretty good.
