Timing is all wrong for GGXRD news. The entire Ark Systems works team must be hammering away at getting DBFZ ready and do not want to take any of the lime light away from that game. At the absolute earliest I would not hope for any news until the end of Evo Japan

In context, I think they are "setting the stage" for new characters so to speak.  We had no real information on King Daryl's true character and colors as an individual, so this shed a light on him and "broke the ice" about what kind of person he is.  Zappa's character growth as an "investigator of the supernatural" is also very welcome, and may play a role in future events.
Aside from that, Daryl's voice actor is an unknown, so he probably needed the practice for this, as did the others, so this is a kind of "thanks for the hard work" skit to the minor characters in the story.

This trend is sounding a little too off-topic-ish so I'll be as brief as I can. The general rule when it comes to Mori is to take everything he says with a grain of salt. The interview which the guy is talking about mentions nothing about the next BlazBlue not being a fighting game. You can check it out yourself here. But I'll quote the things of interest because I don't like unproven musings being presented here.
Part 1: "Alpha-1" is the tentative name of the character that Mori has been teasing around for a while now. She doesn't exist, technically, in any form beyond some concept art and twitter posts. To think the next saga stars her is presumptuous. What Mori said in that interview is as follows:
Translation: keep your hype and expectations in check. "Alpha-1" is not something that exists as of right now. Ergo, it is pointless to dwell on anything that she might be representing because we have virtually nothing to go on. Again, she's so far only something that Mori draws and showcases from time to time.
Part 2: Mori never said that the next BB will not be a fighting game, as far as that particular interview is concerned. His primary response is that he'd like to take a break from fighting games since he's been doing it with BB for a while now. And that's perfectly reasonable on his part. He considers BBCF a complete game so if he were to do another, new BB saga, it'd need to start from scratch (whatever that means for him). We only know that BBCF concludes "Ragna's story" which was made clear months ago. Trying to predict something beyond that is grasping at straws.
Long story short: don't worry about it. Start making your judgement after ASW decides what to roll out within that supposed 2 year time period. Right now we've got BBCF with Jubei+patch coming in. We also have BBCTB announced for next year. Focus on that and wait out the time until the next bit of news comes our way.

I mean, you could, but the DLC page for Rev 2 more than likely shows that Rev 1's DLC is still paid and not included on Rev 2, either if you got it Physically (or Digitally, non-upgrade) though. Characters, I said, is not listed there, but I suppose that varies what version you got it from.
Also, if I may, December 16 was Sign's US/NA release date, so that's a minor screw-up there, and probably copied from Sign's demo version where it was also time limited. So...don't take that as a means of new confimations, lol.

Anyways, if you happen to have Rev 1 on PS3/PS4, you might have had your game updated recently. And here's what it entails in preparations for Rev 2.
(1) "Added REV 2 Upgrade Package", the catalog data necessary to prepare for the upgrade to the newest addition to the series, "REV 2".
(2) "Lobby", "Rank Match" and/or "Player Match" now function independently of each other.
(3) Changed controls for Online Mode functions. Please refer to the button guide at the bottom of the screen for more information.
Not only that, but a couple other things in the game has also been added. The spaces where Baiken/Answer are in the CSS are locked, the Extra Story is locked, more spaces in the gallery are included, but are also locked, this brings the total unlocks in the Gallery to 319, for the rest however...(Preliminary guesses, but more than likely...)
1. Artwork: Key Art and Cover Art + Baiken and Answers Character Avatar.
2. Movie: 4 Intro's/Endings for the characters that don't have an episode story until now (Jam/Haehyun/Raven/Dizzy), with Baiken and Answer's Episode stories. Along with Rev 2 intro/etc. and possible after story ending.
3. Voice: A couple of voice items are also locked (8 of them at least).
4. Music: Only 2 spaces with added music. (Baiken's X2 Theme - Momentary Life, and Rev 2 OP Theme - Break a Spell, confirmed in the Digital Figures track list. Nothing for Answer, false alarm guys.)
5. Character: Baiken and Answer's color's 7-11 and 12-16.
Plus GG World has some new logs added, along with some ??? in the side. And like in the Demo, your W$ will always be displayed in the main menu for convenience.
Other stuff I have found yet so far...
You can now have your entry in Ranked Matches in any other mode when you pause the game, it also includes the option of either pressing start/options to fight your opponent or fight the person automatically. Training Mode character switching while pausing is now available. R-Code icons now include collaboration icons (not available yet.). "Rev 1" info will be displayed in stuff like Replays and R-Code (More than likely, the same stuff will be mentioned if "Rev 2" is selected.) "Hot News" now has more space to show instead of highlighting it to scroll. You can now Rematch for best 2 out of 3 matches (in Ranked). Your avatar now has the circle of pre-selected quotes to speak. And also, you can spectate other people's matches in progress at any time on Player Matches.
Either way, the rest of the Rev 2 additions will become available once its out soon.

You know, people who say stuff like "Anything besides Versus Mode is useless" or "Dragon Install is useless" or "2nd Player Menu is worthless" sound like total GG newborn Babes to my ears.
When an option is viable, it's an option.  P2 Movelists are so you can know your enemy better if you're new to the game.  2P has the right to agree to rematches or not.  Dunno who was yacking away during the stream, but they need to play more GG instead of griping.
