    Site Feedback/Suggestions

If we're talking about speed, the last two forum updates made it pretty slow. Even before this update whenever I made a post it would just give me the spinning Ajax ball thing and I'd have to abort and refresh the page to see my post. Two updates back is when it was fast...

So TD. Speaking of losing 10 straight games. Do you still play BB :3 :33333333333333333
  3. Why don't you want to get back into things? Or rather, why did you fall out of the loop. Was it site related?

Is it PSN or XBL though? I only see you have a XBL tag.
  5. I haven't had time to post much now since I'm traveling this weekend, but I just wanted to say I wasn't trying to blame Anne with my last post. Rather, it's the vision of the site and the policies that have to be figured out. Anne and Circ were just carrying out the "infohub" policies that the site is based on. However, there's always been a tension between how to make people actually care about the site, and not letting good information get swamped by shitposting. That leads to lots of different approaches as people try to figure out a middle ground between them, and I'm not sure if picking just one extreme is the right answer either. I mean even in the "News and Gameplay" threads it was always hard to pin down exactly what was on topic and off. There's always a creative art to it. And I agree that there's a place for moderators to be stern. That doesn't mean they can't also be polite too though; it's not like they just can't use their mod powers to lock and delete threads as they see fit anyway, so you might as well add some sugar to make the medicine go down. For the number of moderators, I never thought we had too many. Sure, there are a lot of inactive ones. But that's the same as them not being a mod at all, so realistically the number of moderators is much lower. I think part of that was what led to some drastic moderating actions in the past, because someone like Circ would be busy with real life all day then come back and find an explosion of shit posting that would require nuking from orbit to save. Whereas, if there were more moderators who could subtly direct the flow of conversation it would never have to get to that point in the first place. I also like subforum moderators since it helps reduce the burden on each individual moderator. They don't need to read every single thread and post on every single part of Dustloop and basically devote their entire life to it. That's only if we keep character subforums though. I saw some ideas floated in the other thread earlier about collapsing them all into the wiki, or making just a general subforum, or combining matchup threads from different subforums (ie, instead of Ragna v Terumi and Terumi v Ragna, there'd just be one combined thread) which could make the structure of moderating way different.

Yeah I don't mind perfecting someone 500 times in a row if they're actually trying to improve. It's only when they're just dicking around that I ask myself why I'm wasting my time.
  7. I was going to go into training mode and set blockstrings with gaps I knew the exact frame count of and then test mashing out with normals to see what would fit, and deduce startup that way. But I guess even those blockstrings' frame data could be different too. RIP

lool I'm the sorest loser you've ever met but it takes a certain kind of person to hit that button for me. For some reason most people online don't. But my brother...... That just drives you to play more and get better though. "Again!" might as well be put on my tombstone.

Only 10 games? I didn't realize my patience was so much higher for losses. The way I see it, my victory is inevitable as I download them, so each loss is just a step closer.
  10. One thing about reddit is that certain patterns of user behavior emerge, incentivized by the upvote system. People end up whoring for upvotes and posting whatever quick fix "epic meme" content they can to get them. They also downvote anything they disagree with, instead of it's original use being meant for downvoting spam and things like that. But the way some reddit communities address that is just by disabling downvotes. And for people posting spam or whatever for quick upvotes, you just have moderators deal with that. I'd assume that the reddit part could work for a general discussion section, then for valuable info you could put it on the wiki. Also I don't think mods NEED to be mean, it creates an "us VS them" mentality like we're wards in a prison jail and have to watch out for the inmates mutinying if we show the slightest sign of weakness. I've actually been told by many people, even other mods, many times that they found the atmosphere uninviting and it made them not want to post. This isn't just mods VS users though, I've seen tons of arguments here on DL between users and it always ends with people getting mobbed with "you suck at this game so shut up," because it was more about scoring points than sharing information. And then you wonder why so many average players who we want to post critiques of videos or help out with matchup info and such feel like they shouldn't. I mean, in the end, for a site like this you need emotional attachment. People are putting in work for strangers on their own free time, when they could actually be playing the game or doing stuff offline. So why should they bother? Especially when they can get immediate access to their friends in FB groups and Twitter and other social media? Some people might get a sense of satisfaction from maintaining a dry knowledge base on a wiki, but to everyone else that's just busy work. You need it to be for actual people they care about for it to be worth doing. That's where the sense of community and a more general discussion oriented place comes in. Even if the actual general discussion posts aren't 100% on topic, or are shitposts sometimes, it creates a bond with people that makes them want to keep coming back to the site and put effort into building it.

Losing to better players is old news, it happens to everyone. Especially, if you're new and you're just jumping into a relatively old community that's had everybody squeezing blood from the proverbial stone out of each other for lack of any other players. Just take it as a given you're going to lose a lot, that's part of the process of improving, and look to improve yourself instead. Instead of winning, look at how to stop certain air dash attacks, or break throws. When you do that bit by bit it eventually will build up to become a win. Although maybe it won't depending on who you fight; it's not like they aren't improving either. I have friends that improve all the time, but since I also improve I still stay ahead of them. Doesn't mean they didn't improve.
  14. One of my friends actually mentioned that too. I just got him into BB, he wanted to just get info from the wiki instead of trawling through lots of threads, and found it was barebones empty. In BB's case though that's partly because there's no frame data for EX, so what are you going to do.
  15. Some of the suggestions put forward are already being implemented, so expect to see more changes soon. - mAc Chaos

Yes, because they didn't release the last version on xbox so everybody who cared about the game had to move to ps3.
  17. Apparently the famitsu article lists the characters in traditional order. Click the link for the character to vote for their colors at the bottom of the page. My favorite character color aside from gold Hakumen was always a mix of gold, black, and red from BBCT. It had the same gold sheen as my normal all-gold color but made it look natural. I don't see the black/red/gold color amongst the CT colors, so it must not be including any DLC colors.

You should add your PSN and your location/region to your profile so people can figure it out easily.

ARC REVO Prizes, Game Corner Canceled

But it's become a victim of ARC REVO CUP 2015's own success: "The reason for cancellation is due to the sheer volume of people we anticipate coming to the event, will create too much congestion." The prize money for the games at ARC REVO CUP 2015 have also been announced. (Credit to Zedar and Argent Zero for translating this information.)

Welcome to DL. I'm sure somebody here will want to play. At the very least I can invite you next time I play with some of my friends who are also new to BB.
