    Odds and Ends

If you're worried about an incoming Raoh kick maybe a Raishinsho would do the trick? or a Buushinsho? heh LOL! Thanks to AtTheGates for the Tougeki Spirits HnK coverage. Anyway -- time for proper Odds and Ends!! GENERAL --- Character balance changes when you switch to a three out of five format?! When the game is set to 3/5 style matches, it's difficult to win more than one round with an FKO attack. The other two rounds must be won with straight damage. Characters who rely heavily on Finishing Strikes suffer a little. You have to be shrewd about when to use those attacks, too. Yadda yadda. Rei and Raoh, Arcadia argues, get a boost while Toki and Juda take a hit in this format. I'd add that it's probably good for Ken, Heart and Jagi. Bad for Thouther with the low stamina and reliance on FKOs. A wash for Shin and Mamiya (*) perhaps. (*) - Between the time I typed this up and when I posted it, Nax made a post on his blog saying Mamiya takes a hit in a switch to 3/5. Capsule Match Analysis Kenshiro vs. Raoh Since Ken's far standing hard kick hits even when Raoh is crouching, Ken can use this to pin Raoh down and grab the advantage in a ground fight. Even though he's on defense a lot, Raoh needs only an IAD jB or a lucky climbing jump A hit to turn things around. Toki vs. Shin Shin has quite a few moves such as crouching B and 214B that work well against Toki's ground attacks. Using these as a shield he can then look to coax Toki into jumping and tag him with a Gokutoken. On Toki side a baited Gokutoken can provide a counter attack opportunity. Both sides have strong okiseme so a single knockdown can decide the match. [they don't mention that (boost)standing kick trick that Shiro uses against Shin players to shut them down when they're fishing for too many low kicks] Rei vs. Heart-sama Rei's IAD rush is more difficult to use and his Hien Ryubu air fireball often gets countered by Earth Crush attacks. Still, the returns are very high; so Rei pushes ahead with IADs and Heart tries to block or counter with 214A. Rei is vulnerable to Heart's grab loops so this is a very hairy match-up. JUDA --- Land Mine Sandwich (credit: white) Here are some tricks for squeezing your opponent with a land mine and, to a lesser extent, the Dagar uppercut. (421A and 421B, respectively) The following tricks apply when you have your opponent sandwiched between Juda and a land mine. That is: when you set the mine and then retreat and let them jump into the gap, when you set the mine and then jump over them, etc. 1) 6A or guard cancel -> land mine hit -> follow-up Basic sandwich trick. From here use a Banishing Strike or boost -> FKO as the situation warrants. When the 6A overhead is blocked and they're pushed back into the land mine, they'll still be in block stun if you continue to press the offensive. 2) 2C -> (they block the mine) -> 6A -> boost close B Minor variation to the above. After blocking the mine your opponent will be pushed back towards you and you can bust out the overhead -> low attack in rapid succession while they're still in block stun. This is true for the above trick, too, but the 6A here is great for tagging their guard cancel attempts. Also, unless they guard cancel after blocking 6A itself extremely quickly, you'll have time to block even after the boost close kick. 3) 2C -> (they block the mine) -> Dagar swipe (236B) -> charged Banishing or Heavy Strike Generally speaking, if they don't have any Aura, your opponent will be unable to escape this one. [btw: I never got around to downloading the July white (Juda) vs. Shiro (Toki) series from Stage:4; I guess white used some of this trickery that day?] With tricks like this you can set up nasty Juda traps anywhere on the screen. ANTI-HEART --- Here's a chart that Arcadia ran a while ago in a VS. Heart-sama blurb. After blocking a weak Earth Crush attack, counter with the appropriate move -- assuming that you're still in range. Boost to block and counter with a wider variety of attacks. Boost to counter whiffed weak Earth Crush attacks, too. Block and Counter Heart's Weak Earth Crush Char. Move Kenshiro 623B Raoh far D Toki 2D Jagi 2C, 236236C Shin 623B Rei 2B, 236236A Juda 2D, 236236C Thouther 236A Heart 214B Mamiya far D ANTI-TOKI --- Hmm... I guess I'll post this on that old "Toki catches the clap" thread. BONUS OFF-TOPIC ITEM --- Vampire Savior Movies! Here are some movies from a recent Kansai area VS tourney that I re-upped to rapidshare. Sort of a warm-up for the Darkstalkers Combination Cup (big VH and VS tourney) that's happening this weekend. Should be hot. http://rapidshare.de/files/29742151/savior-minoh38-2nd.zip.html

Is there something special about Mamiya's IAD jA? It hits low or something? Nax has been talking about this new trick of his for a few days now but he has yet to explain it in detail. New character rankings assuming owakon not banned(*): Rei Shin Toki Thouther Raoh ... hehe. Oh, uh, Ken might be able to do the glitch, too, in which case he's like, 2nd or whatever. (*) - and why bother banning it? Raoh and Ken kill in two combos... now Rei kills in one combo. Fuck it. Just DQ people from tourneys if they don't boost out of it.

Crazy New Rei Glitch Endless Dragon Punch! (there's some discussion about a name for this glitch on the Japanese thread but I think "owakon" (like, owari(end) combo?) is in the lead) ttp://www.filebank.co.jp/cgi-bin/folder/guest_loginform.cgi?gname=hokuto1919&gfname=combo1 pass: combo Heh. I don't know what the deal is here. Tetsu (?) says that Kindebu probably came up with it? I think it's just AC -> 6239E~C You need to boost at the end or the game will freeze. Someone posted that Shin can do it with Gokutoken. Thouther, too. (the air super?) Dunno if they're bullshitting or not. Someone else said they tested it: Rei and Shin can do it vs. Rei, Toki and Mamiya Thouther can do it vs. Rei In other news: Old fashioned proper Odds and Ends post coming up this week maybe. AtTheGates <- the hookup. re: selfishstyle + Sakishrio. I'm afraid I downloaded only a handful of those movies. Nasty comeback in that first one. Tough break NagominJuda. Heh.

That's cool but it seems like the prudent thing for Souther is to use the super bar exclusively for guard cancels. -nohoho (<- party pooper)

    Odds and Ends

Nax says he's going to post some Buuppa (Ken + Raoh) movies. It's been a long time since that guy has made an HnK vid appearance. Should be interesting. Yeah, heh, that's about the size of it. Between Arcadia, white's blog and buckets of Taji, Yurarix and white vids we have plenty of material to work with... This be mighty OFF-TOPIC but I don't feel like wading into the SRK.com swamp to bring it up there: Daigo vs. Aniken (SSF2T) movies. It doesn't get much hotter than this. Yah yoh! ttp://members2.jcom.home.ne.jp/monmon999/gachiasadakai1.html EDIT: oh Everyone but Jagi! Dammit!!! Haha (well... 2D works)

    Odds and Ends

Gak my interenet connection has been up in the air lately. Raoh gets the marks he does because the players that use him are so dangerous. Same with Mamiya -- if Nax weren't around she'd probably be at the bottom. He's managed to lift her up to the middle above Souther. OT/FWIW: like I was saying earlier, in a similar vein Kokujin has been propping Dudley up in the ranks in Third Strike for years. If he were to retire there's no way Danna or Fujiwara or whoever could keep Dudley so high. (check out the july 22 ranbat @ gvision to see what I'm talking about -- dude was on fire that day - he smoked Nuki and Daigo) tianyuan2k4 and I tried this the other day and we couldn't get it to work. I don't know what the deal is. I wanted to write a Juda strategy note (my sub-char after Jagi heh) but I haven't been motivated enough. Maybe after he's finished working on Shin, TY! would team up with me to do something for Juda. Odds and Ends

Oh, Nax gives credit for that combo to Pochi, btw. I guess it doesn't have a lot of practical value. Starting boost requirements plus starting um steel spike meter? (for some of the hard punches? I'm not familiar with this stuff...) Among other things, Nax argues that Mamiya can't afford to sit on her stored boost in a real match. More white vs. Nax vids on white's blog. Plus one white vs. Mizuki (thou). ttp://white-chiryaku.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/ At the most recent tourney Msin @ Kurenai were on a team and they got THIRD. Good thing I wasn't a) there b) a gambling man. Vids of this not for a couple weeks. I guess the arcade makes a DVD and kurenai gets permission to post later? July 23 Vegas 2on2 1) kuro (rei) & hichou(?) (rei) 2) MDR (toki) & tetsu (rei) 3) msin (raoh) & kurenai (toki) July 22 VIP Singles 1) MDR 2) kurenai 3) tetsu 4) yamada-kun

    Odds and Ends

BagLunch - the important thing is to delay the aerial pursuit after the grave hits. The jumping hard punch should hit from below. The difficulty varies from character to character. Juda and Heart easiest, maybe. ... -> AC -> delay j.C -> bakuseiha(2nd hit only) -> AC -> ... Kenshiro 445E <- gimp hop! (did this by accident the other day -- very confusing hehe) Oh snap, Nax is upping movies, too! pochi (mamiya) vs. nax (mamiya) series - motorcycle madness! http://www.filebank.co.jp/cgi-bin/folder/guest_loginform.cgi?gname=popopo1919&gfname=naxpochi pass: mamiya goofy 100% combo plus big combo movie file http://www.filebank.co.jp/cgi-bin/folder/guest_loginform.cgi?gname=popopo1919&gfname=combomovie pass: mamiya

    Odds and Ends

white (Juda) vs. Nax (Mamiya) movies @ white no chiryaku ttp://white-chiryaku.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/ EDIT: white_nax2.mpg <- triple yosohazan. Not too shabby! white (Juda) vs. Shiro (Toki) movies @ Stage:4 ttp://www.filebank.co.jp/guest/stage4/hokuto0723 pass: hokuto NB: This batch is from July -- the last set was from May. I haven't dl'ed yet but white, for one, has made a lot of effing progress in those two months. Should be hot. Sakishiro - I'm glad that you enjoyed all the HnK info. I'm afraid there's been slim pickings lately -- Arcadia didn't run any strategy in the most recent issue. (Gundam and Three Kingdoms 2 card games taking up way too much space heh) I'm trying to get my hands on their new Tougeki Spirits magazine so I can at least post some more SBO scoop. sugeee!!!! Gwyrgyn Blood - re: Heart banishing combo: {Guard Cancel 214A} OR {2B -> CD} -> Auto-Boost -> {D -> IAD j.D} x 2 -> 623A -> 236236A Omit a loop repetition vs. Juda and Shin. Vs. Heart: change second IAD to j.A
  12. nohoho

    Odds and Ends

Gwyrgyn - You wrote earlier (maybe in that anti-Toki thread) about how Raoh wants to jump around a lot vs. Toki. At the time I was skeptical (I was thinking: death by saihaken) but that is exactly what Msin/GX do with pretty good results. What Fist Cancel combo (heh, if they did an HnK vs. Rival Schools game we could have Fist Cancels vs. Justice Cancels?) are you referring to with Jagi? Juda's (far D -> 2CD~CD) is somewhat useful, too. Beat some low attacks with the hard kick then no-gauge banicon. New movies at ekimae center. Tetsu won (giving the thumbs up here) though I don't think Shiro, Toma nor white showed up this time. This is that place that ups really nice looking vids, anyway. http://www.filebank.co.jp/guest/shakuji/ folder: ekimaecenter pass: guest

    Odds and Ends

A bucket of white vs. rei vids on white's blog. ttp://white-chiryaku.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/ white_vs_ki1.mpg etc. If Jagi could just combo off of the knee (6B) I feel like that match would be even.

    Odds and Ends

More movies @ white's page. Url ^^^ movie_white_vs_tomono1.mpg etc. Also he made a character ranking diagram with help from folks at his local arcade. Check it out. (characters from top to bottom: ken, raoh, toki, jagi, shin, rei, juda, thou, heart, mamiya)

    Odds and Ends

I guess re-upping these to fileforge is kind of silly. Anyway please don't paste this post on to shoryuken. I don't want to be responsible for white's bw getting hammered? Or do. I can't stop you. heh Two new movies: ttp://white-chiryaku.cocolog-nifty.com/blog/ movie_white5.mpg tetsu (rei) vs. shiro (toki) movie_white4.wmv tetsu (rei) vs. white (juda) Very nice guard cancel finish here.
