GG Xrd port forwarding

Recommended Posts

I have read articles like this one:

http://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/11931

and apparently now forwarding ports specifically for each new game is becoming a thing.  Has anyone read or heard mention of specific ports that we should be forwarding for Xrd?  If anyone is on twitter (I'm not), this would be a good question to ask ArcSys.

I still need to set up a static IP and get my PS4 on a wired connection, but I'd like to do this as well if possible.

No idea on which ports are used for GG.  I think if you set UPnP it should forward all ports, but there's some security risk involved in doing that.

I'm also not on Twitter, but I second the idea of asking ArcSys.  We could also bother Aksys with it to see if they can ask for us.

Is there a risk for consoles, even the next-gens?

I've put my PS3 in a DMZ since day one and haven't looked back.

I'm not very educated on networking.  I'm not sure about a DMZ, but I've read that while the PS3 itself doesn't have much risk (the few instances of things that I know of that can happen to you can be spread through in-game stuff anyway), UPnP can still open a hole that someone could use to get to the rest of your network.  Not sure how true that is, or how easy it is to set up counter measures to compensate.

I'm not using wireless because I think it's awesome, I'm using it at the moment because I'm busy with work and haven't yet had time to run a cable all over my baseboards to the ps4.  Let's try and focus on the port forwarding part, not the terrifying admission that I've played a videogame on a wireless connection.

Which is why my internet suffers.

After doing some research, you have to buy a new router which you connect and set-up along with AT&T U-Verse.  Researching online and talking to AT&T employees agree that it should solve the issue (I'm an IT major I have to know this stuff).  Still, it's best if you avoid wireless in general when playing games.  Get a powerline connection.  Yes they are expensive and requires saving money, but it's worth it.  I still get good connections with powerline even with no UPnP (still limited mind you).  You can buy them online or at any computer hardware store like Best Buy.

Edit: I'll probably make a topic about this when I have time.

You mean one of those Netgear plugs that you just plug in? I have one of those, I try to use Ethernet for it but I get a server error, I know my connection has been port forwarded.

I have Rocket Fish.  I plugged one of the adapters to a wall outlet and connect it into AT&T U-verse using an RJ-45 cable.  The other adapter I plug-in near a wall outlet next to my console and connect the console and the adapter with another RJ-45 cable.  Testing with the PS3 and 360 my connection is a NAT: "Moderate" Type 2 with no UPnP from U-verse.  The cosole will read it as a wired connection.  Not as good as directly connecting a console to a router, but better than wireless.  I'll create my own topic about networking later when I have time.  Just look at the CNet link at my previous post to see the best powerline adapters.
