[Xrd] I think I have the basics down, but am a bit tired of playing Ky. What intermediate character should I consider?

Recommended Posts

I've put in about 20 hours so far and I think I understand the basics of GG. I still struggle with when to mortal counter and blitz shield, but those are universal abilities so I'll figure it out sooner or later.

I started with Ky due to some similarities to SF, and everything was good. I liked his zoning, quick normals, and consistent damage output. I'm just bored of his tools now and wanted a stronger mix-up game.

I started messing around with Zato and Venom, but was drawn more towards Venom. Unfortunately, I feel like both are way too complex and I'll have to put in too much time with either to become even remotely competent.

So, after messing around with the entire roster in training mode but coming out even more confused than before, I don't know what to do. May, Faust, Slayer, and Sol all seemed somewhat appealing. Axl was meh, Pot might have been cool if he had more than just one way to get in quickly besides charge HS.

TL;DR Please recommend any "intermediate" characters that I should try out?

If you want mix-up, I-No's your girl.

That said, you should just use the character you enjoyed using the most. If you're interested in Venom, just stick with him. He's got a lot of interesting things going on. He's complex, sure, but he's not Carl Clover levels of complex, so you could probably make him work without investing too much time in him.

To be honest you're going to be putting in time to learn to deal with what the rest of the cast can do to you anyway, so extra time to learn your own character isn't some terrible sacrifice.

How do you like to play?

Do you prefer being on the offence or shutting down the opponents offence?

Do you have the patience to wait out pressure and poke out or do you need a DP?

Do you like to have longer range normals?

Do you like to have a long range projectile, a short range projectile or do you not care about having one at all?
