Here's a new AK thread. We need every single player we can get, and I wouldn't want to miss someone who happens to be looking at this forum and doesn't know about other AK gaming outlets. The group of people I play BB with are in Anchorage. There are about five people I know who actually play BB, and some others who play off and on. Regrettably, I don't play GG anymore myself, but I can point you to people who might be interested in it. So, if you're a BB player living in AK and you see this thread, post here and we can talk about getting things going. Same with GG, but I'll have to point you elsewhere since the people who would want to play don't frequent DL, to my knowledge.

the supportive words and bump are appreciated. yeah, alaska is pretty much as you see it here. we have a couple of serious players, but new people who actually stick around and have the drive to improve are hard to find to say the least.

i'll probably end up trying to do some kind of event when BBCS is released and work from there to make use of good timing(and maybe some people will be wandering around dustloop closer to that time), but the tournament on BBCT's release only had 10 people, so i'm hesitant about getting my hopes up.

If I ever make a trip to Alaska for whatever reason, I'll come play with you guys. I feel your pain of not having anyone to play BB with :(

figured i'd might as well post an update since i'm/we're not dead and i don't want this deleted. although lately things have been... discouraging in terms of playing people, if i could get even one new player lurking here that would be great.

the community is a little bigger, but it is still small and it is very difficult to get people to play. if i could even get a few of the current people to play consistently, things would be looking up from where they are now.

we are having ranbats now, however, so that has been a plus(although they are held alongside SSF4). we usually get somewhere between 10 and 15 people, and most people seem to enjoy themselves.

i guess that's about it. if you're lurking and are interested in playing, please contact me/post.

Dude, you really need to get this out there. I -just- moved to Tucson from Anchorage and never knew there was a scene for anything that wasn't SSB.

You should really see about having gaming tournaments at senshi-con - when I was there I got them to let me set up Melty Blood and Immaterial and Missing Power. If there had been enough interest I would've set up a tournament, but given that Blazblue is really stylish and anime, all you'd have to do was get some people playing and I think you could garner tons of interest. I would also say, you should make up flyers and get them on campus at UAA - there are tons of nerds there that would probably at least stop by, if not stick around.

When I go back to visit family, I'll have to get some contact info and play some games. I had no idea there was actual BB play in AK, let alone anything other than SSB.

EDIT: I'm linking this thread on my facebook - I know a few people in AK that play Blazblue casually that might be interested in taking it more seriously if they were aware there was a scene.

well, that's frustrating beyond words. there is a large scene for SSF4(we have a juri player who got 13th at evo, so they're not incompetent, either) and smaller scenes for BB, Tekken, Melee, and SSBB. i guess you weren't there when they were doing the SSF4 tournament at the con(assuming we're talking about the same one).

it usually isn't that easy to develop a community, but there probably is more i could do(although i haven't had much success with fliers in the past). i hadn't been planning on going to cons in the future, but maybe i'll go to the next one to see if i can get a few people interested. i don't think i could count on any of our players to actively try to besides myself. one of the best of our players was at the con; too bad he didn't meet you.

seems like most of the people who go to cons aren't usually into competitive gaming, though(or are against it). either way, virtually anyone is welcome, so if you have friends who are interested in the AK gaming scene(esp. fighting games), you should probably mention the ranbats on your facebook too(we do them for SSF4 and BB every other sunday(we had one today)), as well as alaskagamers.com, which is where pretty much everybody from the various communities goes). it'd be greatly appreciated.

hope to play you sometime, though. maybe if you get some experience out there in AZ you can bring some of those skills up here sometime, haha.

Senshi-Con is the convention at the Student Union at UAA. I didn't go to Auroracon before it died (RIP...) but that may have been where it was.

Really, though, I had a lot of interest when I set up Melty Blood, it's just not as accessible as Blazblue - the combo system fuels the ENTIRE game, so you can't really play casuals with people who play seriously. Even sandbagging I owned people just because combos are so similar in that game, so I'd be hitconfirming into them all day long. BBCS is much easier to sandbag (imo) so it's easier to get people into it.

I'm trying to convince my friends to come to your ranbats. You may already have some of them showing up, but damn if I wouldn't be at every single fighting game related event in AK if I still lived there. Guess I should've started lurking dustloop sooner.

Hey guys, I'm from Anchorage. I play BB! Some other fighting games as well. I'd be down to play with some locals. I've just always known the online gameplay. Totally need a change of environment. :3

deaththekid, if you're interested in playing BB i'd advise signing up on alaskagamers.com. you can PM me your details/contact info and we can discuss it from there if you want. the alaskan fighting game community has sessions that are(more or less) open to the public every saturday(in fact, this saturday we are having tournaments, i believe), so that might be a good gathering for you to attend first to meet people/get a feel for the community.

can you drive? around where do you live? for courtesy's sake, i live on the dimond side of arctic. the sessions i mentioned above are held off of new seward highway near northern lights.

iketatari, you've got my thanks if you get some people playing(and even if you don't if you try).

as to BB vs melty blood against casuals, sounds like it would just be a matter of dropping combos to me. i would say your statement is true for some BB characters, but without going into detail, if you played litchi(do you?) you might think differently. however, i've never played melty blood at any length, so i'm not really qualified to make a judgment on your statement. i'll probably attend the next con to see what i can do personally, but getting people to stick around is always the hard part.

it's definitely regrettable that we hadn't talked earlier. i've been playing BB since it came out; we had a small scene directly after CT's retail release, but it died after a short while. later, i got two or three people playing shortly before CS' arcade release and it's continued from there.

I was out of the GG loop in Anchorage from about 2008, when my social group moved apart and I moved from east side to south side without a car. I got a PS3 last month, and Xrd today, so I can try to get back up to par. I've never really touched BlazBlue except on a friend's system about a week after the very first one came out, and it was on Xbox which I can't do the inputs on that controller. I have all the PS2 revisions, but missed out on AC+R with the lack of any platform it was on. I go by the same handle on PSN.

AlaskaGamers died when I was getting free time and my own transportation to get to meetups. I have no idea where anyone communicated from there now. PlayNTrade also was out of business when I found out that was a meeting point, and I lived 4 blocks away.

I'm in Eastern Anchorage again and have revelator. Online matches for me aren't dropping below about 10 frames, so it's not all that great to play. It's been a long time since I had someone for regular matches in person. I have the PS3 version.
