Differences between DC and PS2 GGX?

Recommended Posts

Since nobody close enough to me really plays gg anymore, I figured I'd try to learn ggx. The 2 on 2 acho ggx team tourney was really inspiring for me to learn fdc combo hax. I was wondering what the actual differences between the Dreamcast version and the PS2 version were and which is actually closer to the arcade version.

From what I've read, the US PS2 version of GGX is just a port of the DC version. I think some of the music was updated or something, as No Mercy sounded just like how it sounded in XX. I'm guessing that the DC version is closer to the arcade version, but the PS2 one is pretty close. I would check again, but my GGX disc for the PS2 got a bunch of scratches when I lent it to someone.

As far as I know, the PS2 port doesn't support 640x480 resolution (unlike the Dreamcast version, using S-Video or the VGA Box in BOTH consoles). Graphics were stuck on the PS2's default shitty res without any optimization.

Ok if there aren't major speed/gameplay differences between the ports I'll just try and get the PS2 version since I don't have a DC stick and not really dedicated enough to buy a PS2 to DC converter. I did see screenshots of GGX for PS2 with Kliff and Justice in them. Could someone tell me what was up with that since I know they weren't in the DC version? Also would like to confirm that GGX PS2 is not GGX+.

US GGX for PS2 is just a port of the original JP dreamcast version. Nothing from GGX+ was in the US GGX. The only PS2 version for GGX in Japan is GGX+ GGX+ extras: Kliff and Justice as unlockable characters along with their stages and themes. Mission/Challenge mode with unlockable pictures. Story mode EX characters are selected by holding R2 instead of turning GG mode. This means you can use normal characters in GG mode as well now.

Actually, No Mercy, Still in the Dark, and Fatal Duel are just the GGX tracks put into GGXX without alterations. The music has had the Heavy Rock Tracks versions since the DC Port.
