Top ten sol players as of now, from anywhere

Recommended Posts

This is a really good question considering the scene is pretty well KO'd. I have no idea who plays half the cast at this point outside of MD/NOVA :psyduck:

Edit: Maybe not so much KO'd as much as relatively different from 2 years ago.

I don't know every player and out of the ones I know of I don't know which order to put them in from best to worst(not as good) ogiwara, PC, 012, kishitaka, yume, Roi.

There's also Koro-Chan and NOB. I'd probably still include Isa in the top 10, despite him switching to Eddie, since I saw a vid from a few months ago of his Sol and it was still damn good.

As for the order, I wouldn't worry about it too much. 012, Roi, Kishitaka, and Isa are all very good. Koro-Chan is good as well, and both Ogiwara and NOB also seem pretty solid to me, but I can't really comment on Yume since I haven't seen many of his vids. PC also used to be one of the best, but I'm not sure where to place him anymore because it's been a while since I've seen him play.

I've also never really kept up that well with match vids, so I'm undoubtedly missing stuff, and I've got little to no knowledge about any Sol players outside of Japan.

I wanna say good shit for actually naming names. I've been playing Sol for years now and have watched countless match vids. IMHO the list is in this order.

1. 012 (He's just solid as hell. watch him play. He doesn't play Sol to wild nor does he play to conservatively. He's a very balanced Sol whose execution of 4 clean hit side winders is impeccable. On top of that his spacing and character matchups are top notch)

2. Isa (he's just a good player in general who happens to play Sol. His spacing is good where he shines though is knowing how to read opponents. OMG his yomi is through the stratosphere. On top of that he's Intelligently aggressive for the most part. His only pitfalls were that he was knew and did not understand some of the nuances of gg matchups)

After this. Its really just everyone else. PC (used to be good, but his risky playstyle is not rewarded a lot because sometimes he's still playing slash sol). KORO-CHAN (He's the only Japanese Sol I've seen who regularly would go for regular throw instead of wild throw in his mixups. ) KISHITAKA (was a rising star. where did he go. His execution was not 012 status but he often held his own against players like RF) KUSORU (Just a crazy sol player. He's quite creative with how he plays Sol.....but that might be giving him too much credit lol). Oh yeh MOUSE was kinda solid too. Of course KAQN. Check out 013 which is 012 apprentice maybe?

All the names listed should be ones you put into the youtube search bar with "(SO)" next to it. Then proceed to XCOPY some of your style from them. Not quite ten but its a start. Have fun man

What about Roi?, he seems pretty solid especially in terms of spacing, at least in his most recent videos.

I agree.

IMHO, although everyone is entitled to their own opinion, Roi is not getting enough credit in this thread. 012 certainly is a GREAT Sol player, but IMO, Roi is arguably/slightly more solid, tends to adapt better/more quickly, and more balanced (his defense is very good, especially for someone who mains a rushdown/highly agressive character like Sol). However, 012's rushdown is probably the best I have seen when it comes to Sol (his Sol is INSANE, period); he also never seems to give up and is full of surprises-- the main issues I have with him is that his defense is not always great (for a great player like him; if he was a lower-level player, it would not be as big of a deal, IMO); he tends to be a bit reckless/impatient (so does Roi) and in some of the videos I have seen, he tends to lose to Sol's bad match-ups more/worse than some of the other top Sols do, IMO. At first, I did not believe Roi was very good, then I saw more recent videos of him and his Sol kind of reminds me of Isa's a bit (they are all different, of course). Even though I do not really use Sol, I enjoyed watching videos of many different high-level Sol players throughout the years, so I am stating my opinion SOLELY based on what I have seen in countless videos (not saying I know a whole lot about these players/the game, because none of us can really see EVERY MATCH that is played at Japanese arcades).

IMO, I would put the order as: Roi (for being very solid & a vicious rushdown, constantly overcoming match-ups/other great players, GDLK yomi, great defensive game, qualifying for SBO for 2 years straight? IIRC, and more) 012/Isa when he mained Sol (IAD CH SW loops everywhere, good defense, solid, unpredicable rushdown+much more), PC (back in the day/if he still plays), Mouse (not certain if he still plays or changed his name-- he was a true beast back in the day)/Kishitaka, NOB, Ogiwara, Miu, Koro-Chan (he never appeared to be very great to me, but I have not seen any recent videos of him since summer)/Kusoru?...

My opinion, of course.

Japanese Sols from Slash to now in no particular order ever would have to be:

Kishitaka

Roi

012

NOB

P.C.

Ogiwara

Isa

Koro-Chan

Mistral

American Sols I've no clue besides the very few of the East Coast ones but from what I know...

Nives

Cadenza(?)

To rank the Japanese Sols in terms of skill 1st and videos 2nd, imo it'd have to be:

1:012

2:Kishitaka

3:Isa

4:Roi

5:P.C.

6:NOB

7:Ogiwara

8:Koro-Chan

9:Mistral

Videos

1:Kishitaka

2:Roi

3:Isa

4:P.C.

5:012

6:NOB

7:Koro-Chan

8:Ogiwara

9:Mistral
