Winnipeg, MB: ChipDamage community where we play fighting games

Recommended Posts

Hello Dustloop!

So our community website has been around for a while now, but for some reason they never created a thread on dustloop and as a result some players who may have never known that Winnipeg has its own growing fighting game community!

Our central community website is: http://www.chipdamage.com/

and we have a youtube channel and twitter feed.

http://www.youtube.com/chipdamage1

http://twitter.com/#!/ChipDamage

We usually gather on a Friday evening at the University of Manitoba Armes Science Lounge and hold tournaments every few months. Our biggest tournament, TST VI (That Summer Tournament) is coming up in a few short weeks on August 13-14th and I hope some new players can make it. :eng101:

The Blazblue scene is very small right now. There's only 4 or so dedicated players for it and maybe 5 casual players for the game, and almost none for Guilty Gear as far as I know since joining the community. We can typically run a small 8 man tournament at our events.

Blazblue is in the lineup for TST VI and I'm hoping establishing a thread on Dustloop will help give us some more exposure so that the scene can grow.

So that's why we always had a good connection while playing :O

You should totally come out to our tournament and show everyone your Rachel :P

hey make sure to register on the forums so you can start to get to know the people in the local scene Helion! We should be having a gathering this friday, if we can find an alternate room to use.

Hey what's up Winnipeg scene. I'm just getting into BBCS:Ex now. I hear you play in Winnipeg. That is cool me too!

Nah just kidding, it's me Andy. We should use this thread to hype up our scene. Make it seem more active. Now is a good time to get new players, if there are any... So we don't want them to walk by without even noticing us.

I think now we have seen almost as many talented players show up for BB as for the other games like Marvel or SF. What we don't see is a commitment to staying with the scene. Yet, these players show up being really good and disappear to who knows where.

How do they get to be so good?

Where are the running off to afterwards?

The only thing I can think of is they visit sites like Dustloop and don't like our scene being so small. So what I propose is that we winnipeggers should post more in this thread to try and attract attention. Our scene's got an excellent foundation, we just need to grow now. We can post player details, tournament/ranbat information, GGs, rants about nerfs and buffs. That sort of stuff. What do you guys think?

Hello GENTLEMEN. I normally just browse DL but I think it's finally time I post more. My real name is Stuart if anyone reading this just so happened to be at Canada Cup last year.

We're getting more BB players surely, but slowly. We just recently got a new Bang player and a new Jin player and hopefully they will be dedicated to the game. There are BB players in Winnipeg, they just need to come out to events and weekly gatherings. I'd like to see Garret's Lambda again =(

Troll Arakune also here, might not have made a huge splash at Canada cup or anything but still love the game :P

Just wondering, what is this thread supposed to do? Like a secondary site for people who don't know the "chip damage" brand?

All we need now is for Branden to post here and we'll have all of the main BB players accounted for in Winnipeg. With about 6 or so people that don't show up too often :O

Wait, so I went to the University of Manitoba and never heard of this :V...? It would've made my stay so much better.

Anyways, I play blazblue and guilty gear. I can bring the games if anyone wants me to.

Yeah we have gatherings every Friday from 7PM - 11PM.

We were gonna have a BB ranbat but it seems the BB players are busy tonight so the ranbat might be called off. We're always down for casuals though!

Hello Feelin'TheWind, and welcome! I know we can be easy to miss, but yes we have been meeting at the UofM every Friday for some years now. We're a growing scene and always looking for more players to come on down, so we hope you can make it to one of our gatherings. We already know you exist, so now you have to come! Lol But seriously it will be a good time. Remember to visit the site too: www.chipdamage.com/forum

Thanks for the heads up Shiro, unfortunately I only have a ps3 so I won't be able to enter the online tournament. A local game store is also holding a tournament that same day, so we might have a large presence this time around. Please keep us informed of other events you guys hold.

Our next major tournament will be on May 11-13, Baselan 23 and it'd be greater if some of you guys could come out to it! We'll be running all of the major capcom fighting games, BB, SCV, MK9, and KOFXIII and streaming the event live.

Its the weekend before Toryuken though so we'll understand if you are only able to travel for one of them.

You should try organizing something similar for SCV as well, that would probably get alot of traffic as well.

Good games tonight. I only got to play Stu, but it was good. I still got lots to work on, but I'm glad you think I'm getting better. Hopefully see you guys on Saturday to.

And don't forget to use this thread a bit. Because people should know that we exist, and all that. :P

Yea, Stuart will be holding a gathering at his place to play some BB and watch the Fight Night Infinity stream this evening.

Also to Shiro420, some of our guys are interested in entering the online BB tourney.

Skull Girls!

If anybody reads these, Friday nights will be canceled for a couple of weeks. It's so students can study for their exams. I assume someone will update with a post when something comes up again.

In the meantime, how's everybody doing?
