[P4A] Mitsuru Kirijo Critique Thread

Recommended Posts

Main_Header_Critique_Thread.png

This is a thread made for the sole purpose of posting videos of yourself in an effort to receive and discuss advice. In general, try to keep the videos short and to the point. Nobody wants to watch an hour of footage that feature someone spamming autocombo. A good length is somewhere around 5 matches, give or take. Also try to keep criticism as constructive as possible. It really doesn't help to bash someone, especially if they are in this thread trying to learn. Flaming will not be tolerated.

That said, have fun! Hopefully we can all share and discuss like sophisticated gents. :eng101:

Here are some good ways to get of videos of yourself without owning your own recording equipment:

1. Twitch Streams

A lot of people (such as myself) have open lobbies where they stream people's matches and then save the recordings on Twitch. Some people add highlights to the videos, which allows you to link to a particular time. This comes in handy for showing people videos of yourself without having to make them sift through the video themselves.

However, a lot of Open Lobby streamers do no do this. I'm guilty of it myself. In this case, you can download .flv versions of the videos using this tool: http://bashtech.net/twitch/download.php

If you locate the number ID of the recording, you can easily download it using this tool. You can then edit this file using some video editing software and crop it to the matches you want, and then upload it to Youtube. There are many options for editing FLV files. Most programs allow you to edit WMVs, AVIs, and MPGs. FLV files are actually containers, so if your particular video editing software doesn't allow you to import FLV files, you can use an extraction/conversion tool to change it into a format you can use.

2. Youtube

If you search for your username, you may find someone has uploaded some of their matches with you. Though this is far less likely than purposefully playing in an open lobby on Twitch, it can sometimes serve as an alternative.

If someone has uploaded offline matches, you can simply link to the proper times.

3. Ask someone who has recording equipment to record some matches for you

This is pretty much self explanatory. If you know someone, you can easily have them spectate some matches for you or record offline matches.

to aegis:

dp only in reaction to something. everyone hates mitsu's dp, so they are always thinking about it.

dont know if it was coz the netplay, but work on your combos. Mitsu damage is amazing from almots everywhere. (playing vs a good yukiko helps this, everytime you hit counts)

in blockstrings, you are always going for 5b [2ab] throw, try not holding the 2ab to punish random mash, or holding it and doing 2a. also marin karin works if you are out of your oponent punish range.

oh, and work on your zoning, its like another character when you play at mitsu's range of eficent (playing vs kanji helps this)

To launchpad:

dont jump, there is not realy a reason to jump in this matchup.

you can do j.dd land 6b for a nice trap.

durind myriad arrows, you can hold the kick for a while for extra damage

try to play at your max range vs yu, there are 3 pags of how-to-punish in yu matchup thread.

if you land a 5a autocombo in blockstring, cut it out in 5b. 4/5/6b are all safe on block, but i cant say the same about the autocombo.

work on reactin to do the crounch combos, you get a few 5b on a crounched yu.

coup is not that good in neutral game, you are using it too much.

if im not wrong, changing the 28c for a 2d in the corner combo nets you 300 more damage more or less

try using 2ab in blockstrings, its the best mixup you can do, and you can combo off it for real good damage, after 2 or 3 they will fear the 2ab.

You're letting him jump in for free way too much. You need to work on reaction 2B'ing his jump ins. If he tries to fullscreen zone with fireballs, you CAN roll through them. You also don't need to jump that much in this matchup, and if you are going to jump, continue to apply pressure with j.D, unless you know he'll jump towards you. Also as a general rule of thumb: if their back is to the corner, and you hit them with 2D, don't do the followup. You get better damage by using 6B after.

This Yu was a mashy motherfucker. You need to respect his wakeup more to let him be stupid and DP/super so that you can punish. Remember that you can punish Yu's DP with an air throw counter.

I can't really comment on Aegis' video because I'm not familiar with the Chie matchup yet.

well, i didnt watched the whole thing, just a few moments at random. don't know if it was the netplay (there are times when netplay delay realy affects my gameplay too) but try to looking at goichi matches. look at how and when he uses everymove.

about opening people, you have to be patient. playing safe can make the other go crazy and give you the win. actualy, mitsuru's way of opening someone up is making the other make a mistake more than doing real mixups. your main blocksing is 4/5/6b 2ab/[2ab], and with that, you have enought to play with.

try reading what he is going to do, you play to punish everything they do. playing safe you can see where he is tempted to make a mistake, like mashing after 5b, tryng to punish the sweep or whatever.

for example, you can do 5aa at max range, [6b], [2ab], 2aaa [5b] [2ab] throw, or if you are close, you can go for [4b] [2ab] 2aaa [5b] 2ab, if they try to punish the reset. or if he likes to punsih with a 2a, you can do [6b] [2ab] [4b]/4b to punish him. actualy, in a lot of chars, your 5a will whiff on crounch. if they know about this, they may try to punish what can possibly be a 5a, giving a good chance for a free 4b FC.

hope it helps.

Hmm would it be better if I uploaded videos of my losing matches more then winning? Sorry for the stupid question, but seeing my faults because of my losing matches seems it might help some people to give me more feedback ^^;

Okay, I'll toss my hat in this thread because I'm convinced there's something fundamentally wrong with the way I'm playing her because it feels like I should be winning more than I am. I got a batch of 4 matches from Ranked last week. Any pointers and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Ok I look at all your vids and you have an idea of what to do with her but not completely, which is okay but you want to get better with you. (Note the reason why you but you vids on here). I am going to be honest as possible. But when you play it looks like you dont have a plan. You are just rushing into the fight with the intent of I'm just going to do stuff and hope not to get hit. Not the right way to play her. She is scary to play against because you really dont know when to press a button against her. You picking Mitsuru makes you a threat. Dont forget this still is a fighting game. So you want to have a plan is number one. Also, you approached all your match ups the same. Every match up is different so that means you must approach them differently. When I watch your mirror match I was asking myself what are yall doing. I dont know if you have mu knowledge but neither one of you guys did sweep to each to counter the other for doing 5A or drill. This shows you are just doing stuff and not having a reason. You had so many hits that didnt turn into combos which in a lot of case could have taken a lot of her life. This brings me to my next point. Number three. Slow down. "But the game is a fast pace game." Yes that is true but if you dont know what you are getting hit by, if you dont know what you are blocking and if you are not looking for certain things, how can you make your next move. I know these were rank matches and you want to win so by all means do what you have to do to win. You won so thats all that counts for rank but in player matches you want to understand everything that is going on. What are you doing, what are they doing, what am I block, why did I do that and why they they do that. Last thing I know its a anime game but I never played anime games. I come from tekken,mvc2 and sf4, so I try to play this game like sf4 but with the speed of tekken. Where you have to make those quick dissensions. This has help me a lot because I get to see everything. I look at everything also. Oh yeah I forgot to mention. Look at everything on the screen. Your health, your meter, you burst meter, and how many rounds you have won. All this goes into account when you are trying to make reads on ppl and/ what someone wants to. Because I am more willing to dp something if I have 100 meter and/ burst b/c I know if this doesnt work I can get out of the combo with burst or do super when I land (but this may not always work lol) I dont want to get into how to play sf but if you play sf trust me this is the way to go. B/c you blocked a lot of stuff that you could have net you massive damage but since you were not looking for those things you didint punish for good damage. (Look at how well I punish things b/c I am looking for those certain this for Yu to do. Note I cant do the real combo yet off throw but working on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T44tJmJtF9k&list=UUU9n4US8Nur1A6FmNAtIOPw&index=8&feature=plcp)

So things to work on.

1. Always always have a plan when going into a match.

2. Approach mu's different

3. work on your hit confirms

4. slow down and think and see whats going on

5. look at everything on the screen

You dont have to do this but it helps play the game like you would if it was street fighter.

I hope all of this has help.

One more thing I dont know if you know but if you do 5A into sweep and you know they are going to try and move you can do drill for a counter hit. If you dont do drill just do 5A again lol So I usually do 5A sweep then 5A sweep again depending if I think there are going to doing something is when I do drill. :)

I went to a small fighting game tournament in Saue (Estonia) on Saturday 22nd and I took 3rd place in the P4A tournament. I'm currently terrible at ArcSys games, don't know any high-damage combos or good mixups for Mitsuru and I didn't play many matches online beforehand because I had trouble finding European players or anyone whose connection wasn't 0 bars. I'll post links to the matches where I lost to 2 Yu players and I would be grateful to hear any advice/constructive criticism.
