Recommended Posts

As you can see by the title im curious about playing eddie but with one problem. IM ON PAD , now ive looked everywhere for a tips on playing eddie on pad but no success. All i find is "Get a stick". After all my failed attempts at find a bit of advice on a pad eddie i gave up. Then i heard a rumor that latif played eddie on pad a long time ago. It blew my mind....so dustloop forums i come to you. Does anyone have the slightest idea on playing pad eddie. P.S eddie looks amazing in xrd

You could also get a pad layout similar to a sega saturn and use claw style. I don't think there's any handicap at all compared to a stick.

There are a couple ways you could do this. I have been practicing on my Vita for a while now where I can't use my stick and I've adopted pretty well. I sometimes wrap my first finger up onto the S button so I can hold K with my thumb for Drunkard Shade loops. If you have Twitter, try asking Latif for advice. He's a godlike Eddie player who first learned on pad. He only switched to stick because he was playing people in the arcade at the time from what I understand. :)

I'm really wondering about this because I do want to use Eddie but I feel like I'll have to use some highly unorthodox konfiguration. Do you know what button konfiguration he used? I'm wondering which I should change and which I shouldn't. I really don't want to position my finger in weird ways but at the same time I'd rather keep as much as I kan at default in kase I want to use other characters.

Also, if you know which buttons are most often held that would make things easier. Like is HS ever held?

As a pad eddie player you can actually do a lot with eddie using the default control scheme. It takes a good deal of practice to get used to holding some buttons while releasing other. The biggest thing to do to help is during block strings or combos learn exactly which buttons you have to hold and which ones you don't many times you can control zato with a quicktap while eddie is still in recovery even though he does not appear to be. For which buttons are held the most that is difficult to answer most of the are held a similar amount but some are easier to adjust or recover from on accidental release, which you will get on pad and is the biggest reason to use a stick with eddie, HS is the hardest to recover from because the only way to recover from a misplaced puddle or drill is for you opponent to not be paying attention.

Messing with him more I think I'm beginning to understand. I just decided to map S and HS to R1 and R2 respectively so I kould hold any button (square for punch, X for kick) without having to move out of the natural position. The recovery frames of moves definitely allow you to sneak in more holds or taps and grant you more options as you've said.

One quick question though, I noticed in Xrd that you kould summon the Shadow where you drill (as shown here). Is it possible to do that in +R and is it only done with the drill? I'm learning +R right now to prepare me for Xrd so I want to get used to as much as I kan while being konscious of what I will or won't be able to do.

In +r the Weiss summon 214hs summons Eddie with ggxx#r move set. In xrd it summons in the puddle left by the drills.

I didn't fully understand. In +R you summon it with 236HS (or P or K or S). Are you saying it's this kommand to summon it where the drill is or is it a different kommand from the normal summon?

there are 2 different commands to summon eddie in +r and xrd 236(p,k,s,hs) or 214hs. In +r 214hs is called weiss summon it summons eddie with the same moveset he had before AC. In xrd they took out the AC eddie moveset so 214hs summons in the puddles that are left behind by the drills.

I didn't know you kould Weiss Summon in +R. I hadn't been able to do it in my fiddling with him.. Anyway, thanx for klarifying. That's some pretty powerful stuff to put into Xrd for Eddie.

PS: I noticed you refer to the shadow as Eddie like the game does. That gets konfusing so I usually refer to it as Shadow.
