quick beginner questions about gg generation modes

Recommended Posts

Allright, so after many years of playing GGXX Reload on PC, i discovered that i can emulate the ps2 version of AC Plus. I always used to play Reload on ggxx setting and if i remember correctly this gives faster character movement and allows almost everything to be jump canceled.

1. Is this mode(ggxx) the same in ggxx AC Plus?

2. What modes do official tournaments use?

3. What does the gg mode modify?

Google didnt find anything, and neither did the search function for this forum...

Official tournaments only use the default modes. No alternate modes are allowed. This includes GGXX, GG, Gold, Shadow, and EX characters.

GG mode is the only one I've fiddled with. Off the top of my head, any of this could be wrong: you can't Burst or RC. You can charge Tension by holding Dust + another button. You gain a new attack by pressing Punch + Kick; if it lands, the opponent has to input three directions according to an on-screen prompt, or be IK'd. Most moves are jump cancelable. I don't remember if Faultless Defense works, but Slashback definitely doesn't.

GG Mode is based on the original game, and is as Circuitous describes above. That game did have a precursor to FD, I think it just lacks the visual effect and the added pushback, instead only preventing chip damage, but I don't remember if they kept it in Generations. It also doesn't have IB.

GGX Mode, as indicated by the name, is based off Guilty Gear X, which lacks bursts and FRCs, but still has RC. It also lets you cancel normals with FD, the input for which is reverted to 1/4/7P+K.
