Chrono Phantasma and General Tournament advice

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I have been playing BB for a few years now. I am by no means a pro, but at least above average and looking to improve my game. As much as I desperately wanted to import BBCP as soon as I could I had too many things already planned and decided it would be cheaper to wait. Yes I know its worth it to get on it as soon as possible, but I had to and at this point int time it is less stressful to me to wait for it to come out in my region(currently USA).

I want to practice but I feel in an odd spot because while it helps to improve in general hence why it might be a good idea to practice with what I have(CT and EX) I am not sure what the proper way to go about learning would be because I am still getting into the concept of grasping all the countless little things about a game and how it changes from game to game. True that some things are obvious to anyone, but there is still a lot than most of you could better see than me.

So for that reason I fear if what I am doing is right or wrong by not practicing with the current version of the game.

I will be going to a tournament in a few weeks for BlazBlue. So this will be my first time playing Chrono Phantasma as sadly I have no major FGC friends near me.

While I have been very hyped to get my hands on Amane and Terumi I have deiced it is best to stick with what I know best and while I have no character I have really "mastered" I have one I am very comfortable with and do far greater with than any other, Nu. So I will only be focused on playing Nu for the time being.

I wanted to know if anyone would be kind enough to enlighten me on a few things. Do you feel I can at least grasp basics better practing Nu with what I have now? Could you help me better understand the changes going to Chrono Phantasma(I know a few even though I do not understand many of them)? And of course advice for a first time tournament goer?

Any advice would be appreciated and thank you all for taking the time to read. This is also my first time making a thread on Dustloop and if I am doing something wrong I sincerely apologize.

:)

Hey there, im not really a certified player either but i do play nu. Firt thing to know is that she is like a mix of nu and lambda separated into different forms, its a little weird at first but its easy to pick up. Its a little hard to explain her combos and stuf but theres a 20 minute video on youtube with all her combos, just type in "bbcp nu tutorial" or something like that.

I heard she is more of a Gen style stance character now. I am fine with that as long as I know how to switch modes. Nice to know there are BB players in Australia. :)

Well i've experienced day 1 Tourney. some advice i can give u is... learn the character matchup. My path in the tourney is pretty smooth since i'm tier whooring Hakumen (LOL). but then i meet this Terumi Player ... well i'm quite confident at 1st since i thought it's just another Hazama ... welp frame trap & unblock BS sent me to looser bracket. well got precious match up info on Terumi Match up... Momentum will decide whos win and who's dead... k, i think nothing can goes wrong again ... and meet this Azrael Player ...LOL ... damn trap and overhead ... there goes my day 1 tourney. so yeah... i don't think adapting to new change isn't as important as knowing your opponent especially the new character :vbang:

Yeah the new characters is what worries me. Again since I have know idea if I will have time to just play the game I am making the assumption I do not and just playing who I know. However if I get the time I will try to play the new cast for both my interest in Amane and Terumi and to just generally understand the new characters. I hear a balance change is coming and I look forward to it.

heres some tips on new characters

terumi- he has no overheads apart from jump attacks and the distortion where he stomps you. be wary of jump cancels into his jump overheads especially after his 5C(a 2 kick move where he jumps) as that can be canceled midway. Terumi doesnt have any defensive options unless he has meter, so dont be afraid to rush him down. remember that all his jump moves and allot of his ground moves give him advantage so be ready to block. He also has a command grab so watch out.

Amane- I can only play a little bit of amane, but remember to barier gaurd his drills. if he gets you into a drill setup from a knockdown dont roll or delay it as you can easily roll into a ground drill, letting him get to lv3 drill ivery easy. He has very good range with his cloth attacks so block low if your far away and he's on the ground. but yeah, barrier since his lv3 drills do more damage if you block it.

Azrael - he has crazy mixup as all his drives are overhead or low, there are some distince differences but its mainly a guessing game. His teleport can screw you over but if you are expecting it a grab will catch him. Main thing is to be very attentive when blocking as he might just stop and dash right through you. if you have a weakness mark and he does a black hawk stinger(really big punch distortion) do not block the weakness point(yellow is low, red is high, so block the one you dont have or jump block if you have both).

Bullet- shes intimidating but you just have to block, block low as her overheads are slow. if you see her have a red aura do not attack after blocking as she will be advantageous. her only invincible moves are grabs so use aerial attacks when attacking her on wakeup.

I dont play any other of the new characters except kagura, but he's hard to explain, hope this info helps you out

People need to stop spreading this misinformation. Bullet's 'DP' is NOT a throw. Yes, great, it has a 'grabbing' animation if it hits, but it's blockable, and will work fine on airborne opponents.

Bullet is not a 'grappler'. She doesn't have special throw moves except for her 720 and her goofy, Noel-esque "rushing grab that only catches people who are standing" thing. The fact that all her animations have her picking up her opponent and tossing them around are basically deceptions, because pretty much all of her stuff is blockable normally.

Technically her Snaphance Fist is groundthrow that can catch arial opponents like Tager's atomic collider, so she has 2 somewhat half assed command throws and a low damage 720. However she already has a decent AA so Snaphance Fist is midly usefull

If it is like Atomic collider then it would be an unblockable attack that hits airborn opponents only. Not a throw.

It's a blockable hit-grab that hits in the ground and in the air, think KoF style combo-grabs basically. It just so happens to also be a DP.

I need to better look into the match up section. However based on everyone here and their experience as/against NU what do you personally feel her match ups are as of Chrono Phantasma?

Nu's mid tier, she has an average time against most chars. Only someone with intense rushdown like Taokaka or Valk will give her trouble.

Even more important than the game, a tournament is a social event.

You're going to be going to a gathering of the best players around. That's a huge resource. So don't be shy, and make friends with everyone. They can give you much needed experience and give advice. Plus they will just be fun to hang around with.

On that note, make sure you are showering before you go. :v:

I will keep that in mind. I have wanted to go to a tournament for so long. Sadly I have either been unable to due to money or my attempt failed. Another reason is my failure for realizing the event near me that goes on yearly is much bigger than I could have imagined. I am now aware and wish to do best to familiarize myself with my local scene. I was only able to spend a short time with superior players once and that tiny bit of time went a long way. So i can only imagine what I can become getting that chance again and actually having more time to spend.
