Playing Maxi Boost

Recommended Posts

So I realize this is probably going to be a very limited post, but I finally found a few arcades here that have the game and am going to make the adventure to go now that FAUC is out, and have a couple questions.

So, the game apparently is player-bound somehow, right?? Like, it keeps track of a players points and rank, and players can unlock gauges to play with right?? How...does this work??

Actually I guess that's my only question now. I was going to ask about using the 3 months of MB that came with buying FB, but I just looked at the card and saw that campaign ended April 30 :/

I guess any abroad people that have experience playing it or anyone that maybe got to play FB while it was still in the arcade that has some info about playing the Arcade boxes that I wouldn't think to ask about they want to offer up, I'd love to hear that too.

edit: Are there any like manners that I need to be aware of? Like knowing some boxes are reserved just for vs play and others are used for Arcade runs. Unspoken rules about how many games you play before passing off to someone that might be waiting? Is this something that varies between arcades and their regular patrons? ><

First buy an IC Card, you can usually find machines that sell them near the cabs, or at least somewhere in the arcade. Then register by going to vsmobile.jp, where you'll need to log in with a bandai namco online ID. If you don't have one already, register for free when prompted on the site. Once logged in, it'll prompt you to register your IC Card. you simply write in the serial number on your IC card and your IC card will then be bound to your account. Once logged in there, you can register your ID name, choose BGM, favorite suits, etc.

(On a side note, if you play any games that use an Aime card, such as Guilty Gear, you can use your aime card by binding it with your bandai namco ID as well. I don't remember the specifics on it since it's been a while but unless they removed that feature in MB, it should be possible still)

Manners (these are pretty common sense, but might as well write them out):

#1 - Always get off of the cab when you lose, even if it might seem like no one else wants in. That means physically standing up.

#2 - Always COM at the start and end of the game.

#3 - If your partner acknowledges you at a nearby cab (common in Shuffle), you should reciprocate.

Ok, I'm doing some reading about IC cards now. I was going to ask do you buy one, register it with bamco id (which I do have for EXVS mobile that I never use XD), and then how do you pay on it...but looking at a couple articles it looks like they are limited use?? Only a certain amount of times and then you gotta buy a new one??

It isn't like something you just buy once and forever use it after binding a bamco account to it (like a train pass here that you just monthly put money on)?

each card is only usable for 500 games, but its extremely easy when you need to get a new one. I believe there's some shortcut like just placing the old card and the new card on the cabinet scanner and it'll prompt you to carry over your data to it.

Wow, this is very interesting, I want to play too, so brett_'s info is gold, thanks.
Do you know how much cost each Card? When you buy the card you have those "500 matches" or you need to pay every match you do?
If I don't care about Gauges, outfits and those things, I just should be worried about anything more than the card to play?

The card is for every Bandai game or only Maxi Boost?

Thanks for all again.

I played like 700 matches and am still using that same card 0.0

Oh maybe they removed that feature in FB or MB - I remember they definitely had that 500 limit in EXVS Vanilla, if there's no more play limit on each card that makes things easier :)

When I lived in Japan, cards were 300 yen, but It depends on which arcade etc. 300 is a good estimate though.

You don't need to pay every match, it's just a one time purchase to obtain your card. You can always play without a card, too, unless they changed THAT too lol.

I don't know what other games use the bandai namco card, but if there are any your card should be usable for those games as well.

If you don't care about gauges etc, you don't even need to use a card to play, aside from to track your win/loss and have a name.

Wait wait, when you say it's good for 500 or 700 matches, do you mean actual DEPLOYMENTS?? When I first read that my brain read it as "each card is only usable for 500(¥ worth of games with each game costing 100¥) games." So like...5 losses to a card.

So is it based on losses/continues or on deployments?? 700 deployments off of 300¥ that's...crazy. Although I guess if you factor in the 50% (or less) winrate when playing versus instead of arcade or whatever the third option I saw is...

Originally it was like 500 games or times where you would be needed to insert your credit, i forgot which, but it might have been taken away in MB or FB. In EXVS vanilla there was an actual number it would display somewhere on screen telling you how many games you had left - if you don't see such a number then don't worry about it.

Reporting back on this since I finally went:

1.) The card is 300¥, but you still pay credit for each play, so I think the card is just a data holder now?

2.) 100¥ per play. Practice is 5 levels and counts as one play. Arcade is standard and counts as one play.

3.) Conquest mode: I think this is the mode to get the biggest bang for your buck. I didn't try it out though because I'm really not good with the arcade stick having only played the game with a control pad up until now.

Yeah the card is just a data holder. In some previous version it also just had a limit on its use as a data holder, in addition to still needing to pay 100 yen per credit. It seems like it's not that way anymore though luckily.

Yeah when you register a card on bandai/vsmobile, it just gives room for up to 3 different cards you can register. So it seems like you just get a card and it hangs on to the data you accumulate.

On another note, Ojama had mentioned to me that when he was playing in HK he would have people challenge him to 1v1 battles, even when in arcade mode. I did not have that experience, and I was playing on a team shuffle box with someone right across from me. Maybe if more people were playing at the time it might of happened? But I feel like as picky as people are when playing FB online about latency and rank and stuff that it's not as likely...

Most of those players are noobs who can't do 2v2. We have a lot of those here. They think that this is a 1 v 1 game. Sometimes we have people who goes 1 v 2 and expect the team with 2 players to go 1 v 1 him. The problem is this is extremely unfair for the 2 guy team. Especially if that guy picks master or the-O.

We have been having a lot of trouble in arcade lately. Mostly people who go 1 v 2 got mad at the enemy for not doing 1 v 1. A lot of fighting and blood. Happens almost everyday in the kowloon side.

The Gundam community in HK have made it clear that its not right to go 1 v 2. But still there are retards who insist. *facepalm* sometimes its hard to explain to people like them. They think that they are better if they can win 1 V 1. Seen a lot of those guys, me and my partner win 12 games straight. The guy was challenging us for a 1V1 saying that if its 1V1 he will definitely win. We literally ignored him and leave the arcade after the PVE games.

I mean when you consider the majority of fighter games are 1v1 right?, and that a lot of hardcore fighting game players I think put a lot of stock in their individual play because that is the common style, it's not that hard to see why people not familiar with the series may think 1v1 is a better show of their talent instead of realizing the need to learn to play the 2v2 meta.

I wasn't necessarily point fingers or anything with that comment. Just something he mentioned that I thought interesting and wanted to say I didn't have that happen, not knowing if it happens frequently here or elsewhere lol

Kira where do you usually go to play? I've went to a couple ones in Mongkok but I found one in Kennedy town (where I'm living right now) so I might check that one out later.

I usually play in Central or North Point. If you want, give me your number and we can meet up sometime in central. (Pretty close to Ken.Town)

Even the Japanese community told players not to do 1V2. Its extremely unfair to the 2 player side.

But some people are just like that. Especially in HK.

Another problem with those noobs>They beat people up with chairs/bare fist/whatever they find in the arcade if they lose 2v1. They will consider you as being a prick for not going 1V1 when he told the AI to go EVADE only.

Shit, sorry for double posting again... always forgot=.=

Hahahahahahaha. Is this actually true? People bean each other with chairs in HK arcades when people refuse to 1v1? NA has some salty people (myself included) but that really takes the cake. Arcade culture is a wonderful thing

Are all the best Gundam players in HK still playing Rengou vs Zaft 2? I remember the legit strong ones were usually middle aged men in suits and briefcases after work or something. Too bad they never moved on to GVGN. I'm guessing the current MAXI Boost players in HK are mostly the gangster wannabes looking to stir shit up?

Gangster wannabes....

While it's definitely a younger crowd there were quite a few older guys playing as well. Rengou vs Zaft 2 is STILL popular from what I can gather. There's one at Tsim Sa Tsui that has 8 cabs.

Maxi price also went down from $8 to $6 HK (less than a dollar now).

I'm not sure if it's a summer campaign or something but when I was at a-cho last week the price was 50¥ down from 100¥

How to say... We have a group of top - mid level players who play nicely but we also have a group of players who never improve and only blame the winning side for "cheating".
For example. I play S.Freedom as my main and when I keep my distance they get mad. They will call you a pussy for not willing to go in and let them melee you.

If you don't melee first and always wait for them to melee before you, they will get mad and say you are "waiting for melee".

If you use a melee suit like master and win them by melee. They will call you melee spamming like a noob.

If you kept winning them. They will eventually get mad and "sometimes" start a fight.

^LMAO! One of the reasons that I don't go to arcades in Canada anymore. The places are filled with Canto-speaking kids. Arcades in Taiwan are much safer and have Maxi Boost.
