(Note that this is my first attempt at compiling info for a character thread, so bear with me. I'll do my very best!)

Ass tier vortex players, UNITE!

Despite being relative mid/low tier, I find Seth interesting in how he is able to win almost any matchup if he gains momentum. Gonna have to study those bastards with halfscreen normals extra hard!

I'll be doing what I can to compile info for the thread. Lets show that he's not as bad as he is said to be! Praise be to based Rion!

Seth's only real problem is his HP and possibly his damage. He lacks overall consistency, but that is inherent to his character design. If this is anything like Melty, those 623s in his combos will be easy business imo.

 

He looks to be a treat for Nanaya players from Melty Blood. Real, non-gimmick mix-ups, and a run over a hop. Those are godsends.

His normals are pretty ass and awkward to use too. For example, his j.C stops his air momentum and lurches himself forward before doing the axe kick. Very strange and weird to use.

Agreed. Considering how much risk he has to expose himself to, and how much damage he deals, he really isn't that strong.

I keep seeing amazing Seth players losing to lesser skilled opponents because they got hit twice lol, whereas most wins are complete outplays.

It kinda sucks, especially how I know I'll get salty af! But he looks fun as hell, we need more Seth players!!

Was Seth's health always the lowest before EXE Late? There's a pretty large gap between him and the next lowest vitality character it seems.

I believe in previous versions it was either Hilda, Vatista, or Chaos who had the lowest health. Apparently they thought it was a good idea to nerf our boy's HP into the freaking ground. I personally think its a bit too low at 8100. It feel like at least 9000 would be a bit fairer.

Let's hope they make a balance patch after the console release.

 

For a character that is "agaisnt the wall" constantly, he needs more HP than just that.

Rion got double-perfected on stream by a Hilda a couple hours ago :gonk:

And that is why I hate Murakumos / Sword summoners. They're terribly flawed in design and are extremely annoying to fight against.

I do not understand why Hilda's got more health when she doesn't have to put herself at risk.

I'm salty over it, Rion's so good...

Off thread topic, but I'm pretty sure that she needs the health. Hilde has pretty slow normals and no good way of escaping pressure. A lot of people actually consider her bottom tier X_X

Not exactly. I just really dislike the idea of characters having single button projectiles that combo into each other!

But uh, yeah, I'm salty like that.

On a more serious note, would you rather see Seth dealing more damage or getting a health buff? Or, instead, a projectile buff that could effectively lead to safer vortex?

I'd honestly be fine with a health buff. Damage doesn't really matter when you have combos that reset into 50/50 oki. Having a projectile for a safer vortex would be good, but it's inherently in the design of vortex characters to take risks, so I personally think its not too big a deal. I think French Bread will eventually give us something good in terms of buffs.

Yeah, having more health would be nice. Can't really comment on other things since the game hasn't been released yet on console, but Segment seems like an alright projectile for okizeme. Plus he can use his force function and EX Segment to make it better.

 

 I'm actually more concerned about how his neutral game will stack up to the other characters than his defense.

Yeah, I could see him still having the lowest health in the game (he does do pretty well in spite of his health), but 8100 is a little ridiculous.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BB-BZAv6xYc this is a pretty good place to start for visual aid, fishing for combos in Rion videos are fun but hard to visualize all the situations.

 

Seth's good combos are pretty hard but satisfying. :D

 

Also, the only semi-interesting thing I managed to find when playing him is that you can cancel his airdash down move from a jump normal, blocked or otherwise, so I can see it being a tricky thing for mixups. Not safe but can keep the opponent guessing between that and two-part overhead.

So it turns out Seth has much higher requirements in terms of execution then I thought. With the input leniency being less than what I'm used to, this is gonna take some time XD
