Anti-Gordeau Video: Dont Fear The Reaper!

Recommended Posts

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3h2XXdWeOCM&feature=youtu.be

I wasnt sure where to put this, as the Gordeau forums didnt make sense and posting this in all the Matchup forums was out of the question. But heres a lengthy 12 minutes video on how to deal with/punish common Gordeau things.

If I made any mistakes (or left any information out) let me know.

Can't watch the whole video, internet sucks on my phone atm, but I think you missed Gordeau's option of early cancelling 66c into command throw, and his option of cancelling into mortal slide. Both beat mash.

66c is also not freely mashable by every character w/ 5 frame normals, due to range. Some characters (yuzu) have to microdash to mash out.

On wakeup, if timed correctly, 66c generally will be + on block, so Gordeau stopping and pushing 5a will be completely in his favor.

Didn't get to see if you mentioned the reversal point on shielded grim reaper > ex mortal slide, either.

Also, though this isn't a Gordeau thing, Yuzu's 214c is a reversal super. It is absolutely terrible in most situations because of its hitbox, but it has decent use in the Gordeau MU.

That was pretty helpful, nice job. He's pretty rough to deal with, I'll definitely try to delay tech more often against him from now on.

Now I just gotta learn to block his mix-up.

1. Makes sense, noted!

2. Retested this. If you shield 66C, you can throw punish/reversal if he presses 5A. Thanks!

3. Yeah I completely missed this.

4. Didnt really expect that to work for Yuzu. huh.

Ill add annotations in the youtube video for what I missed. Thanks for the help.

I feel like this vid kinda misses the point.

For example, sure, I could shield>dp most of his strings, but shield isn't ib -- it carries massive inherent risk, especially against a character with a cmd grab that gets a free grd break if you're too shield-happy in assim range. These options are fairly dangerous.

Also, this is about dealing w/ gord on a micro level, but not a macro one, so it also leaves out important matchflow answers to Gord; additionally, it completely neglects neutral game, paying attention to whether or not gord has cs and how that should affect how you play against some of these options, etc.

Don't get me wrong -- I mean, what's there obviously works -- but you really don't want to think, "Hey, I can just shield>dp Gordeau all day, this is free!" You'll get blown the fuck up. The video has useful information, but gives it no context, and thus, by itself, it doesn't give -enough- information to actually put this tech to use intelligently.

Mmm the intention was just a Gordeau PUNISH video. So just cases where you can make a call and punish him. I know its not useful in terms of teaching a matchup. I cant really go into matchup details without having to be verrry specific to the characters involved. I only play Seth so the best I can do is a Seth vs Gordeau matchup video. I can't go into anything greater than this. It doesnt erase the fact that you have to learn the matchup and more importantly learn how to fight your opponent.

Best I can do for now is just say "Hey you can deal with this string by doing this" and "Dont press buttons during this" not "You can outpoke him with this" and "You can bait him with these." Its more or less a primer so that you dont have to spend excess time in the lab to try to beat a blockstring. Gordeau definitely has answers to counter a lot of what I've shown (ex. empty jumping when he suspects a DP etc etc).

Thanks for your input though! I do understand your point and I hope I can try to work towards what youve suggested.

<snip>

"If you don't fight, you can't win"

Bonus points for Eren and Seth sharing the VA.

Takehito Koyasu is the only one that joke applies to, because he's been the most prolific seiyuu for a few years now. Last time it was counted, at least, no one in the industry had as many roles as him.
