Combo Theory

Gordeau routing involves using delayed timings to allow for j.B into falling j.A, then landing and comboing into 5A so that he can continue into his best selection of enders. On awkward starters, the height often needs to be stabilized in order to find a consistent timing. In the worst case, there is very lenient timing for comboing falling j.A into an immediate B Assimilation (214B) after landing, though this results in sacrificing a fair amount of damage as well as giving up the ability to end in a Distortion.

Assist-based combos should prioritize going into as early of a B Grim Reaper (236B) as possible, to get its damage in while scaling has not affected much yet, followed by extending with an assist call.

For ending combos, Gordeau generally wants to end with B Assimilation for safejump oki and a minor bit of meter steal. In the corner, he can instead opt for A Grim Reaper (236A) to push himself away from the corner slightly and prevent the opponent from forward teching past while still maintaining a safejump timing. Gordeau can also combo 2C into either of his Distortions; the difference in damage between the two is minimal, so the decision can instead typically be made based on whether you're hitting a single opponent and want to secure some meter steal with Mortal Slide -Divest- (236BC) or want to hit two characters at once with Turbulence (214BC). On the other hand, Turbulence deals significantly more base damage, so if you're using a Distortion early to lock out bursts, you'll want to pick that one in all cases.
