Backstory
Noel Vermillion is a former Lieutenant of the Novus Orbis Librarium and the wielder of the Nox Nyctores dual weapons "Arcus Diabolus: Bolverk." A nervous, but kindhearted young woman, Noel aims to help others wherever she goes.
Noel was initially created as a Murakumo Unit, like Nu-13, on December 25, 2194 by the "Sector Seven" organization. Named "Mu-12," she was made in Ikaruga to become the heart of a new Black Beast as the ultimate weapon for Sector Seven to use against NOL. However, Ikaruga is completely obliterated in the midst of the Ikaruga Civil War while Mu-12 is still being constructed. Her human body was rescued from the burning fields of Ikaruga, and Noel was named and adopted by the Vermillion household, which lacked a proper heir. Noel lived a fairly peaceful childhood, until the Vermillion family was at risk of being banished by the Control Organization (NOL). Wishing to repay her family for saving her life, she decides to enroll in NOL's Military Academy in an attempt to save the Vermillions from being excommunicated from society. In the Military Academy, she became friends with Tsubaki Yayoi, Carl Clover, and her current best and most dear friend, Makoto Nanaya. Later on, Noel was noticed for her unique talents and was contacted by a Control Organization Official who offered her a proposition; join the 4th Magic Division as a special forces officer under Jin Kisaragi's command and have the Vermillion household's aristocratic rights restored. Noel accepted, knowing full well that it was the only way to save her family.
Noel was then sent on a mission one day to retrieve Jin, who had abandoned his post to chase after Ragna the Bloodedge. After being betrayed and almost killed by Hazama, her commanding officer uring the mission, she and Ragna are teleported by Rachel Alucard to a safe location nearby, barely escaping, However, Jin, who was unconscious after his skirmish with Ragna, is captured by NOL. Deciding to defect from NOL after learning about their true agenda, Noel has become the target of a manhunt established by Hazama/Terumi thanks to his abilities as a commanding intelligence officer within NOL. Hazama/Terumi are one of a small number of people who know about her origins as Mu-12, and, ergo, realize her importance to their plans.
Noel acquired her guns, the "Bolverk," whilst being attacked by a magically-mutated monster in a forest as a child. Desperately struggling to protect herself, the Bolverk suddenly summoned themselves within her hands, with Noel accidentally firing them and killing the beast. Since then, the guns have mysteriously stayed with her, and Noel can call them forth at will whenever she deems it necessary to fight. Little does Noel know that the weapons are devices elicited by the Boundary to hold back Noel's unstable emotions, which prevents her from awakening as Mu-12, and whose destructive soul still lurks deep within her. The Bolverk can fire magic-based blasts through walls and obstacles, and can even transform as part of a varied arsenal of weapon types: a pair of dual handguns, a shotgun, a recoilless rifle, and a machine gun.
Playstyle
Noel is a rushdown character that focuses more on movement. She does not have much in terms of long reaching normals or even specials to help her approach. Instead, Noel must rely on combining her fast movement with fundamental movement to bait people into trying to stop her approaches and whiff, which will open up opportunities to close the gap and sometimes whiff punish the opponent. Once up close, Noel's drive offers good options to go for mixups and also possess invulnerability against attacks with particular attributes, rewarding good reads.
Drive: Chain Revolver
Noel's Chain Revolver makes a return in BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle in somewhat more simplified fashion. Noel's B normals all corespond to a different drive normal from the original Blazblue series. Once you enter the drive stance by pressing one of these normals, you can get a different drive normal by pressing A, B or C during the drive stance. Much like the original Chain Revolver drive, you can do up to a total of 4 drive normals once you enter the stance. After you reach the maximum of 4 drive normals, pressing A, B or C again will make Noel end the drive stance by doing Bloom Trigger.
Pressing A, B or C will give you a different drive normal depending on which normal it is in the chain.
