Overview

Born around the same time as Prince Vegeta (and a few years before Kakarot, AKA Son Goku), Broly was placed in the elite nursery chamber due to his overwhelming powerlevel that apparently went higher than readers could scan. Because of this, King Vegeta banished Broly to a distant planet, thought to be uninhabitable. His father Paragus attempted to save him by giving chase, yet he too ended up getting stranded on the planet. In order to make the best out of a bad situation, he decided to train the young Broly. Many years later, their distress signal was found by members of the Frieza Force and were allowed to join it due to also wanting revenge on the Saiyans. Broly started off being almost no match for the pair, but as the fight went on his power started skyrocketing. However, tragedy struck in the middle of battle, as a “stray energy blast” accidentally killed Paragus. This death caused Broly to transform into the Legendary Super Saiyan, pushing him far beyond the limits of a Saiyan and being a tough match for the two saiyans.

Strengths/Weaknesses

Strengths Weaknesses
  • Very high damage with meter and assists. Can TOD you without sparking pretty easily.
  • Will grab your enemies, a lot. Grabs for days, some of which are extremely fast, others have very long range.
  • Gigantic Charge has a lot of DHC potential thanks to its forced spacing and crossup after hit. Certain characters can abuse this to get a 4 way corner mixup.
  • H Gigantic Fury (214H) is ridiculous, with a ton of range and being unblockable both on the ground AND the air. Unfortunately, it loses its air throw ability if you cancel into it from a normal, meaning you'll have to tick throw.
  • His level 3, Gigantic Roar, makes him take his armor off. Dragon Ball rules mandate that no shirt = 5% damage buff.
  • 236S catches jumping opponents in blockstrings and has one hit of armor, as well as being plus on air block after a super dash. It will even catch people who notice they superdashed into it and start mashing, if you timed it right. Ridiculous. Use it a lot to zone.
  • Beam. Slow beam, but vanishable, meaning you can call assists after to screw over your opponent and convert into a combo. Or you can just vanish to save your skin when you miss.
  • j.S is the god button. Can't be superdashed, huge, leads to loops both in and out of sparking, deals a ton of damage, has a ton of hitstun, use it a lot.
  • Generally insane range on all of his normals. j.M is just Janemba's but better. j.H is huge. 5M and 2M are huge. The list goes on.
  • j.2H can relaunch.
  • Autocombo is surprisingly useful. 5L is slow, but 5LL is a very solid hitconfirm off of it which can either lead straight into his autocombo for slides or be jump canceled for other combos.
  • Rather decent mixup potential, as well as a nasty 2L crossup from a snap.
  • Assist covers the entire screen and hits decently high. Trunks and Frieza's assist on steroids. Broly SMASH.
  • Is a very good boy with a hot GF.
  • His dramatic finish lasts a full 60 seconds for maximum style points.
  • Extremely unorthodox combo routes and playstyle compared to nearly every other character. Requires a good chunk of labbing and decent execution to optimize.
  • TEN FRAME 5L. 5LLL also does not come out unless 5LL hits. Mashing is a thing of the past with him. Thankfully, his 2L is 6f, but you cannot dance around like Bardock or Teen Gohan can.
  • His normals in general are quite slow.
  • While 2M can be chained four times in a row, it's so slow that the opponent can jump out. This does give him the ability to use 236S to catch jumpers and 214L to grab reflectors, but it's still not very great in the end.
  • Large, around Android 21's size. Not as tall as Z Broly, but still rather tall, making him susceptible to fuzzy overheads.
  • Struggles immensely to get slide knockdowns. Can't get them AT ALL if j.2H is used (without DR). You'll have to be able to control the neutral or have assists/meter to spend on the ready in order to mitigate this.
  • Damage is quite mediocre midscreen, much like Z Broly.
  • Not a single one of his normals is safe on block, and the specials that make him safe can generally be reflected. He basically can't stagger you at all.
  • Assist has rather poor blockstun and hitstun, and takes 40 frames to start up (rather slow)
  • Gigantic Heave is his fastest grab and swaps sides, but does not grab crouchers. Similarly, his 6H requires an assist or meter to combo off of.
  • Abysmal midscreen oki, especially from his Level 3.
  • Can't convert off of his grabs midscreen without assists (besides 214S), leading to a neutral reset.
  • Not a monster nor a demon (nor da Devil)
