Normals can be cancelled into other normals freely for a short period of time, like with Homing Jump. Wall sticks if opponent is struck in the corner.

* '''Burst Overdrive''': Augmented Overdrives that cost both 50% Tension and the entire Burst Gauge. Only one Overdrive per character can be used as a Burst Overdrive, specifically their cinematic Overdrive. Performed by doing the motion for the Overdrive and pressing {{D}} (ex: {{632146}}{{H}} becomes {{632146}}{{D}}). Successfully connecting with a Burst Overdrive gives you back a portion of the Burst Gauge, much like a blue Psych Burst.

* '''Blitz Shield Charge Attack''': Performed by holding {{H}} during Blitz Shield. Can be charged by holding {{H}} longer and continues to reject while charging. Crumples opponent on ground hit, but has heavy initial proration. Full charge depletes some of the opponent's Burst Gauge on hit.
* '''Blitz Shield Charge Attack''': Performed by holding {{H}} during Blitz Shield. Can be charged by holding {{H}} longer and continues to reject while charging. Crumples opponent on ground hit and causes horizontal blowback with wall stick in corner on air hit, but has heavy initial proration. Steals a small amount of the opponent's Burst Gauge on hit. Fully charged version cannot be rejected by a Blitz Shield Reversal.

This is the latest revision of the Xrd series that adds new characters to the roster as well as adjusts existing and mechanics. Surprisingly, Arc System Works has stated that returning characters will not be rebalanced.

All characters from Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- (including DLC characters) return for this installment.

New Characters

  • Johnny is a returning character from the XX series. He is the leader of the Jellyfish Pirates and uses an Iaido style sword for fast strikes at midrange. He also has a limited number of coins that he throws at the opponent that serves two purposes: to cancel the recovery of his attacks and to power up his Mist Finer attacks for big combos.
  • Jack-O' is a new character who wears a pumpkin shaped mask and a jumpsuit with leg flares and is one of That Man's subordinates. She places pumpkins on the ground to summon ghosts to attack the opponent. The opponent can hit the pumpkins and ghosts, but Jack-O can pick up and move the pumpkin. The designers say that her play style was inspired by Real Time Strategy games like Starcraft.
  • Jam Kuradoberi makes her return from the XX series. She is a master chef and probably spends more time in the kitchen than in the battlefield. However, when she does fight, she possesses extraordinary power by channeling her Ki into devastating special attacks. She's a very offensive oriented character that wants to be up close and personal whenever possible.

System Changes

  • Stylish Type: An alternate input mode for beginners. Introduces auto-combos and an extra button (Special, SP) for performing specials and Overdrives. Holding no direction blocks automatically.
  • Throw Break: Occurs when two players attempt to normal throw each other at the same time.
  • Homing Dash (GGD.png > Template:6) overhauled: Now forces the opponent into a tumble with the character pursuing them in a similar manner to Azrael's Valiant Charger in BlazBlue or the Boost system in Hokuto no Ken. Normals can be cancelled into other normals freely for a short period of time, like with Homing Jump. Wall sticks if opponent is struck in the corner.
  • Burst Overdrive: Augmented Overdrives that cost both 50% Tension and the entire Burst Gauge. Only one Overdrive per character can be used as a Burst Overdrive, specifically their cinematic Overdrive. Performed by doing the motion for the Overdrive and pressing GGD.png (ex: Template:632146GGH.png becomes Template:632146GGD.png). Successfully connecting with a Burst Overdrive gives you back a portion of the Burst Gauge, much like a blue Psych Burst.
  • Blitz Shield altered: A successful Blitz Shield now slightly refills the Burst Gauge. Currently unknown if this is only when the opponent goes into the rejected state or if this also applies to rejecting projectiles. Crouching Blitz Shield no longer rejects mids or projectiles.
  • Blitz Shield Charge Attack: Performed by holding GGH.png during Blitz Shield. Can be charged by holding GGH.png longer and continues to reject while charging. Crumples opponent on ground hit and causes horizontal blowback with wall stick in corner on air hit, but has heavy initial proration. Steals a small amount of the opponent's Burst Gauge on hit. Fully charged version cannot be rejected by a Blitz Shield Reversal.
