This is the latest revision of the Xrd series that adds new characters to the roster as well as adjusts existing characters and mechanics.

All characters from Guilty Gear Xrd -SIGN- (including DLC characters) return for this installment.

New Characters

  • Johnny is a returning character from the XX series. He is the leader of the Jellyfish Pirates and uses an Iaido style sword for fast strikes at midrange. He also has a limited number of coins that he throws at the opponent that serves two purposes: to cancel the recovery of his attacks and to power up his Mist Finer attacks for big combos.
  • Jack-O' is a new character who wears a pumpkin shaped mask and a jumpsuit with leg flares and is one of That Man's subordinates. She places pumpkins on the ground to summon ghosts to attack the opponent. The opponent can hit the pumpkins and ghosts, but Jack-O can pick up and move the pumpkin. The designers say that her play style was inspired by Real Time Strategy games like Starcraft.

System Changes

  • Throw breaks added. Occurs when two players attempt to normal throw each other within a 2 frame window (?).
  • Powered up Overdrives that cost both Tension and a Burst. Not all Overdrives have a powered up version. Most simply replace the button pressed with GGD.png (ex: Template:632146GGH.png becomes Template:632146GGD.png)
  • Can cancel attacks into other attacks after Homing Dash (GGD.png > Template:6), similar to Azrael's Valiant Charger in BlazBlue or the Boost system in Hokuto no Ken.
  • Successful Blitz Shield regains some Burst. Unknown if this is only when the opponent goes into the rejected state or if this also applies to Blitzing projectiles.
  • Followup attack added to Blitz Shield by holding GGH.png.
  • Danger Time occurrence rate reduced (unconfirmed).
