Carl Clover is BlazBlue's resident puppet character. His Drive, Automaton
GuardStartup16RecoveryAdvantage-, allows Carl to control Nirvana in tandem with himself. Unlike most Drives, this requires holding and releasing 
while moving to perform an attack. Nirvana also has a health bar that gets consumed when she attacks or gets hit while active. While this health regenerates rapidly if she is left inactive for a short period; If Nirvana runs out of health, she will be disabled
GuardStartup0RecoveryAdvantage- and regenerate more slowly, only becoming usable once she has fully recovered. Due to all of these factors, Carl and Nirvana boats high execution requirements, yet powerful high rewards, and concidered one of the hardest characters to master in BlazBlue.
In the story, Carl is a vigilante who wields a Nox Nyctores in the shape of a large doll named Nirvana, who is in actuality his sister Ada Clover. He seeks to cure his sister, although the only man who can fix her is 
Relius Clover, Carl's father and the man who put his sister and wife into dolls in the first place.
