Dragon Knight

Dragon KnightDragon Knight can't deal with fr.5M, but you can't deal with her outside of Frenzy.
Unknown

  • Her j.S is a massive issue for Berserker.
  • Her 5S is a terror outside of Frenzy, and can be used to effectively contest the ground, leading to a decent knockdown with great carry on a far hit.
  • Due to her poor guard cancel range, DK can have difficulty getting out of Guard Crush situations.
  • Jumping against her is difficult, due to her 623M being an extremely potent reaction anti-air, and her air to airs generally being superior.
  • Outside of Frenzy, she wins neutral. In Frenzy, you win neutral.

Neutral

Neutral outside of Frenzy is very difficult here and the goal is to get into Frenzy as soon as possible, since fr.5M massively discourages her from being in the air where you can't easily contest her. She typically gets more reward off neutral interactions at far ranges than Berserker outside of Frenzy, which is another reason to get into Frenzy asap, where the risk/reward tables tilt back into Berserker's favor.

Her 5S is a solid ground poke which leads to an easy hitconfirm into 236M, giving her a decent knockdown to start offense. Her 623M also acts as an extremely potent reaction Anti-Air, making jump-ins difficult. Dragon Knight will use a lot of j.S. There are answers to this like air-to-airs and 2S but these must be done pre-emptively. If she starts mixing in her other neutral tools it becomes very difficult to get in and start Berserker's gameplan.

fr.5M is a gamechanger in this matchup. DK can no longer safely spam out j.S and approach from the air for fear of getting vortex'd into terrifying pressure. While DK's ground buttons tend to be fairly short, her run is still fast and 5S is a rather disjointed poke with great range to contest your 5B. In frenzy you get much more reward off this interaction than DK, but outside of frenzy she gets more reward with a hitconfirmable knockdown at any range thanks to 236M.

Offense

DK has a great DP and a poor guard cancel. This makes her weak to gapless pressure and guard crushes, especially when spaced, which happens to be one of Berserker's specialties. Because of it's short range, its much easier to predict where DK can actually use her Guard Cancel which makes it easier to Conversion on reaction to a Guard Cancel and punish her for massive damage.

DK has fast abare options with her 2A and 5A, her buttons are generally more conducive to scrapping at a close range.

Make sure to slightly delay your DP punishes on her 623M if you're using 5S. Using it too early will cause it to cross-up and whiff behind DK due to the forward momentum on both moves, leaving Berserker punishable.

Defense

Make sure to hit Astra (her dragon). When DK uses 5M in pressure, she puts you into an RPS situation where you need to either contest Astra and hit her out of starting a pressure sequence or respect her attempt to punish a mash on Astra. If you respect too much, she'll put you into terrifying pressure, but her punish from this situation is also quite potent, especially in the corner. Use Berserker's 5A to contest Astra, due to it's short recovery making it difficult to reliably whiff punish, but don't become too predictable. 2B can also be used to contest Astra and some punish attemps, due to it's low profile capabilities, but it's recovery is susceptible to being punished by Astra or DK.

Astra stays even if you manage to land a hit on DK, this can knock you out of some combos or mashes and give her a punish in some situations. Throw can't be hit by Astra and disables her, but it has low reward and requires you to be quite close to DK.

  • Berserker's 6S stops her air approach but is vulnerable to being stuffed by her 6S and 236M.
  • 2B is a great way to stop her 6S but is quite slow. It also stops her 2B.
