Proximity Block Option Select

From Dustloop Wiki

Proximity Block Option Select is an option select that causes your character to perform an action only if the opponent attacks.

What is Proximity Blocking?

Proximity Block is the animation that occurs BEFORE you block an attack. You've probably seen your character start blocking even though they're outside the range of the opponent's attack - that's proximity blocking.

What is Proximity Block Option Select?

Proximity Block Option Select works by taking advantage of Proximity Blocking and what you can/can not do after it.

This option select specifically does not work on throws, as throws do not trigger proximity block in most games. Street Fighter 3 is a notable exception to this rule.

Some Games Patch It Out

Given the power of this option select and the advent of patching in modern fighting games, Proximity Block Option Select is often patched out if it is very low risk to execute. Two examples of this are Guilty Gear Xrd and Granblue Fantasy Versus.

While BlazBlue didn't patch it out, its use is limited due to many variables, such as delayable wakeup timing.
